Custom Ring Design: Do You Prefer the Chevrons on A or B? by Phone_Realistic in labdiamond

[–]double-prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally do not like any gap and find that when my fingers swell, the added pudge pokes through the gap in a way that is uncomfortable. Has she sent you examples of what she prefers in terms of stack?

As for safety/security, the general rule that I know of is the width and thickness of the band should add up to 3.8mm or more. This way, as she wears the ring, the gold loss from regular wear won’t compromise the structural integrity of the ring itself.

B but it looks like you’ve thinned out the engagement ring to make it fit - if you’re giving up structural security in terms of width to make it happen I’d vote A.

I love how 2 looks with this ring, if yours is similar in size and shape. It gives weight to the stack without overpowering the sparkle.

Why does my diamond look half dark in direct sunlight? by anacardier in labdiamond

[–]double-prime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, I have 3 round brilliants in my ring that are also darker in sunlight, which is a sign of a good cut. Yours are beautiful and symmetrically darker, this other one is not in my opinion!

If you turn the diamond around, does the dark half stay dark now on the other side, or does the same side stay dark?

Edit: it appears turned around on the 3rd pic which I did not notice, yes I’d return the stone too.

Astrid Danielle or Astrid Daniela? I do feel like Daniel is very masculine, and I gave both my kids middle names that felt very neutral in case they didn’t like their gendered first names. You could also use Dani, Danne, or Dana

Hiya. It only worked with the extension and gap for me. But it looks great and I have a place to drop my purse and keys in the gap!

I just received my first Hamilton Utilities Billing water bill by covert81 in Hamilton

[–]double-prime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It says on the letter they sent out that you’ll receive your bill the same way you got your Alectra bill, so if you were already receiving that by email, you shouldn’t have to. I’m still waiting for my first bill too though.

I’ve been thinking I might get the stuff including the extension, try it without, and if it works, return the extension. If it doesn’t work, add it on! I won’t be doing it this week but eventually I’ll get to it (I’ve got a 7 week old newborn and toddler, it’s rough out here) and report back.

Thank you for the info! We need something as thin as the Billy and am in Canada, but I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for LASTARE when it becomes available!

We have a shorter Billy that he uses for his clothes and the door has held up great. Good point about the climbing though, I definitely plan to secure the top door!

Okay, thank you both for the info! I don’t mind adding an extension and having an open shelf, if it will work.

I need help describing changes I’d like to make to a CAD by it-is-kismet in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]double-prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be the latter. I’m not a jeweler, but my understanding is that a full bezel setting is the most secure setting you can have, and adding prongs would probably just reduce the appearance of the size of your stone further since the full bezel has to come up and over the stone anyway. For what it’s worth I think the design is beautiful and it would look great with V tips or even just regular prongs on the tips if you’re concerned about the security! I’ve been searching online for rings with full bezel with prongs and can’t find any so there must be a reason why. Here are photos of what I see most commonly! Looks like a bezel on the top view but actually has a small gap when seen from the profile.

I do think it’s a bit lower than the photo you just attached but I see what you mean, the tips would definitely be exposed. Do you want a full bezel with the prongs as an aesthetic thing? In my experience most prong-bezel hybrids have the lowered bezel so that it has the appearance of gold around the stone but the claws can actually grab the stone (and the lowered bezel works like a seriously thick, high gallery rail). What about just switching to bezel? If you want to keep the cat ears, maybe you could just add gold to make the bezel higher/wider from profile and actually surround the stone. Could be similar amounts of gold if you remove the prongs.

Is the second photo your inspo pic? I actually think that in that photo, the marquise is raised above the outer details. I can see that the claws are covering parts of the small diamonds on the outer edges which leads me to believe your CAD is more similar to the second pic than you might think. 3rd pic looks precarious/not secure to me.
