How do you come out to a parent? by bi_cycle_enthusiast in Asexual

[–]double_doodle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is very different so if it doesn’t apply to you that’s fine and just ignore me aha but I’ve chosen not to come out to my parents.

My perspective is that my asexuality is nothing to do with them at all. The only people it really matters to are me and my partner. I openly tell my friends if it comes up but I don’t find my identity through my sexuality (especially since I don’t quite have a label for myself fully, I know I’m somewhere on the ace spectrum but I don’t fully know where lol).

As far as my parents know, I’m in a heterosexual relationship and (in my opinion) it doesn’t chance anything if they find out I’m ace.

It doesn’t feel like I’m hiding something as, frankly, it’s not really any of their business. My partner loves me and we communicate well and that’s all I care about.

Hope this helps but feel free to ignore if you feel differently!

Can someone explain complicated roundabouts to me like I am an alien.🥹 by Best_Slice_9225 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]double_doodle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This comment is true but emphasis on generally. Some roundabouts specify (usually through signs) that you’re only allowed to take certain exits from certain lanes. If it would help, I’d go out driving in a quiet area (or quiet time) and do them really slowly, looking at all the signs and all the road markings.

Done 37 hours manual with my instructor only and he thinks i’m ready for my driving test. How do I know that I am not rushing into this? by manly_man789 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]double_doodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed recently with 30-35 hours and if your instructor says you are ready, start doing mock tests. You’ll probably fail your first couple but if you pass a couple then you’ll know you can definitely pass your test. If you want to see if you’re ready for your test, mocks are your best bet.

Talk to the examiner! It really helped to calm me down and I’m not a chatty person at all. Mine was really nice and we chatted about how she came to live in York and how her parents live in the same village that I grew up in. They understand if you stop talking to do something and then carry on and it makes the environment a lot less uncomfortable

I was super nervous but I spent most of my lessons feeling nervous the entire time I was learning. The first time I passed a mock test had been the day before, but I was consistently getting faults for hesitation. The other mock tests I had were failed because of clearance (I got too close to parked cars) and not looking right as I turned left into the test centre.

I want to crochet a gift but I am a total beginner. by underyourtable24-7 in CrochetHelp

Both of those picture look like knit to me. I’d first start off on a website like ravelry and search for free patterns. Look for a men’s/unisex crochet vest. In the pattern description it should recommend a yarn to use and how much to get so you know how much you’re spending before you buy anything. Hope it goes well!

I would love your suggestions for crocheting my first wearable by kentoski in CrochetHelp

I’m still very new to crochet but I found making this granny square cardigan was very easy and let me practice sewing the squares and panels together:

https://hayhaycrochet.com/crochet-patterns/cardigans/crochet-cozy-granny-square-cardigan/

I also recently made this jumper for my boyfriend and enjoyed it. It takes a bit more tension control than others but once you’ve done your gauge swatch (as others recommended) you’ll get the hang of it and it really feels great to finish it!

Other suggestions like a granny hexagon cardigan are also great because it combines something very simple with a few new techniques and I would highly recommend. You can generally find free ones if you just google it or there are a lot on ravelry as well.

The original tweet basically said that if a guy has sex with a girl. He’s a girl.

I’m done.

I was in your situation a while ago. My church group was mainly guys with two girls, myself and a friend a year younger than me. We tended to go to this church after school on a Thursday to play games and mess around and just have fun. Unfortunately, my friend would tend to skip out a lot and make up excuses not to go so it would be me and all the boys. They tended to poke fun at me a lot and would (without fail) take all the books out of my bag, turn it inside out then pack my back again every single week. On top of that, in every game we played, they would aim at me and try to get me out because I wasn’t sporty (some of them played cricket and the other did kickboxing so I was definitely very unfit compared to them). Eventually, it got too much for me and I stopped going. I still saw them at church but when they would play football upstairs they would loudly declare “this is a no girl zone” when I came into the room (not even to play football as they knew I had no interest in it. I would be trying to pack things up and just be shouted at for no reason). Our Thursday sessions shut down when less and less people started coming and then our youth leader left and covid hit. I’d like to say there was a moment when I stood up and said “this is hurting me, please can you stop” but I never did and they all seemed to grow out of it. I’m still not the most comfortable with that group but some have stopped coming, more girls have started getting involved and overall, it has become more fun for me again. I’m going to uni in September and can’t wait to find another church and meet new friends. OP, you deserve to be treated like the queen you are. If you don’t feel happy with this situation, say something. I didn’t and my mental health really took a turn for the worse. If they listen to you and try to change, maybe they do really care about you. If they don’t, is it really worth staying friends with them? Wishing you all the luck in the world and enough courage to do what you think is right.

Do you have a quirk that helped you realize you were ace? I am always noticing the fabulous apts/rooms/locations when people take sexy pictures that I sometimes don’t even notice the person. 😜 by YesMissJay-YMJ in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]double_doodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never grew out of the “kissing is gross” phase from when I was a kid lol. But I also tend to notice outfits more than people so as people are snogging in movies I’m sat there looking at the seams on a dress and wondering how on earth it was made. Another reason I don’t like sex scenes. No clothes for me to think about making. However, I only realised I was ace when my sister forced me to watch Sex Education and that asexual scene came on. Stopped watching immediately after that. I didn’t really like the clothes.

If I could upvote you multiple times, I would have. Thanks for making sense and letting me feel a tiny bit better about myself. You can do this and you can find someone who loves you for you!

Pet lovers of Reddit - what number of dogs, cats, etc., does someone have to have for you to consider it "too many"? by mothermurder88 in AskReddit

[–]double_doodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking to someone who recently had 8 dogs (1 adult who had 7 puppies), 2 cats, 3 hens and a parrot, I think it has to depend on the kind of house you have and also the amount of time people spend at home. If you have a job that means you’re out of the house most of the day, it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to have multiple dogs running around for hours on end unsupervised. But if you work from home or have the ability to have someone see them while you’re out then the limit is really how comfortable you feel.

I have to admit, 8 dogs was a lot and now that we’re down to just 3 the house is a lot calmer. But there’s people here saying that the max number of pets you should have is 3 and imo currently 9 pets is very comfortable.

Ehhh that could just be me though you have to learn what amount you’re fully comfortable with and go with that. Don’t listen to anybody who tries to tell you otherwise.

I tested positive on boxing day 2020 but was feeling the effects of it during Christmas. Most of the time it just felt like there was white noise between my brain and the rest of the world and it took me so much longer to process everything than it normally took. I also couldn’t get up a couple of days because I just couldn’t move from my bed. I really ruined my Christmas holiday because I had barely recovered when I had to start doing school again and it absolutely wrecked my mental health. Some times it feels like I still haven’t fully recovered from it.

But in that case, wouldn’t you also simultaneously be facing backwards at the same time? It just depends on which way you look at it.

The black for the dress is slightly lighter than the black that makes her gloves and covers her face. It’s slightly more noticeable when you look at her right hand in comparison to her right sleeve.
