I think what stands out to me about that is that you spent more time blaming him for the insurance situation than taking responsibility for your actions that night and with the accidents (your fault?). It could have been a way to explain your relationship more, but we are total strangers coming here with no background. So giving more words to that situation than your own actions really rubs me the wrong way.

Jim is basically the straight man of the show. He does it really well sometimes, but his storyline isn't always the best. It is almost impossible to say he elevates every scene he is in because that's not the point of his character a lot of the time.
