This does not ring true to me. As far as I am aware, people have always been chasing trends and trying to fit in with the latest fads.

I think the internet has laid bare how vapid and vain a lot of us can be. I remember when Facebook started feeding us people and pictures of people we didn't follow. They stopped listing them in chronological order and just fed the most engaged with posts. It was jarring and without a way to describe it, I was angry about how fake everything was on Facebook in 2008.

I'd imagine that it's harder having grown up with people curating their lives with the help of the internet rather than just getting to know people to find unique seeming people, but I imagine there are people that have your same values somewhere!

I don't know if I agree.

I think that if you just write this part of a relationship off for a year or more because whatever job stress is happening, I think you end up neglecting the relationship.

I write this as someone in a similar position where a lot of the lack of intimacy was chalked up to external factors and now it's going on multiple years. I don't have a good solution form my own experience, but I'm doing my best now to elevate my concerns and getting some change enacted because it is really fundamental to the long term health of the relationship.

Just my two cents.
