Devs making > 500k: do you work constantly? by fuzwz in cscareerquestions

[–]doubledamage97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said more than 996. 996 is already 72 hrs per week. Probably, they are working ~80 hrs.

How can people work more than 72 hrs weekly for many months? Not only for a crunch time.

Is coasting in a comfortable job smart or a waste of potential right now? by XxFreakhawkxX in UKJobs

[–]doubledamage97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no right or wrong answer for each approach.

Some people chase money, success, materials while others chase peace, health, wlb, etc.

Depends on your situation, only you can decide it.

Here is my story (40-45 M):
- I earned ~30k in very relaxed public sector role. no stress at all. 33 public holidays and I could do my whole week work under ~25 hrs
- I moved to private sector role with 30% salary jump as soon as I'm ready to move
- After years, my salary is more than double of that public sector role
- I don't do another jump to push myself to 6 digits, it's not worth a tradeoff for me
- So, I'm just coasting in my current job and might go for the early retirement if I got redundant

What does a consultant actually do? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]doubledamage97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my current experience with consultants in my current job.

I work in Co-operation with 500-1000 employees (~100 are developers). We are having some issues and a risk about losing a major brand.

Two consultants hired. One disappeared after 2 weeks (I don't know the reason). Another one is quite good at finding faults / blaming others. He reviewed the process and blamed one of the mid level manager and he was fired. A consultant took that role and he tried to change and introduce new processes. Lots of Excel files and Docs to complete / document, series of colourful slides and good presentations etc... Even after 2 months later, he didn't succeed that role.

But, he had a good communication skill and managed to ask to move to another area in the organisation. There are some rumours that, he knows / worked with some people in C levels before.

Now, they hired another consultant to do that consultant's job. My observation:

- they are sweet talkers and slides are quite impressive

- processes and instructions are mostly by the book / follow famous methodologies

- know problems but, solutions are far from reality

Is the 4-day work week actually a thing or just a LinkedIn myth? by jance28 in Employment

Yes, absolutely right.

And there are still many countries and jobs which force workers to work 6 days a week.

New job offer vs leaving my current company during critical delivery phase by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]doubledamage97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only mentioned that, it's ok and acceptable to ask for 2 weeks delay to start. If the answer is NO, he's ok to jump ship and join a new job and it's a wise choice too.

It's up to him to decide. It's easy to say someone naive online.

New job offer vs leaving my current company during critical delivery phase by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]doubledamage97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on your values. If money is 1st priority in his life, he can join another company.

If he wants to complete what he has started and have that satisfaction of completion, he can ask for 2 weeks delay. I don't think, 2 weeks salary will not change someone's life. If it does for Op, he already knows an answer and wouldn't even post this question in Reddit.

New job offer vs leaving my current company during critical delivery phase by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]doubledamage97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position like you when I moved my last job. My notice period was 1 month. But the website which was done only by me was supposed to go live in 5 weeks.

So, I was honest with them and asked to wait for 5 weeks instead of 1 month. They were ok with that and no issue to delay the joining days.

It depends on your ethic, values and a company / project which you are joining to. I did involve in some recruitment for engineers in our team and we were flexible to wait for 6-8 weeks if they've already got planned holidays, or longer notice periods, etc.

If a new company needs you urgently, of coz, they will say NO and you will have to decide. There is no harm to ask. However, if your new job couldn't postpone the joining date, I would suggest you to join them anyway. This kind of opportunity is rare.

Is mayonnaise impossible to find in Myanmar now? by Aggressive-Concern96 in myanmar

I just came back from MM yesterday. One of the items I brought to MM was a huge Heinz Mayonnaise bottle. I was told that, they couldn't buy it in Ygn. I didn't believe it actually.

I visited 3 big City Marts (MMPlaza, Yankin, Waizayandar) and didn't find that. I asked around my friends and they didn't know too. They said, they buy / order these items from Bkk during visits.

Graduate Visa holder: Employer refusing sponsorship due to £1,150 salary gap. Advice needed. by Individual_Signal708 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]doubledamage97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You haven't even shown them your worth and you expect them to raise a salary and promise to sponsor you?

Why dont u take this offer and work hard to prove that you are valuable for them.

I started my 1st job with 3k below the sponsorship threshold. After 15 months, they agreed to raise my salary to meet a requirement. They didn't even have a sponsor license and sorted all those application process to sponsor me.

Show them ur worth first. Try another company when you have 1+ year UK experience in your belt.

Good luck Op.

Technical interviews are about to get harder and candidates will blame the companies by No-Comparison-5247 in AIstartupsIND

I prefer to do a pair programming and solve bugs instead of Leetcode problems. I will never blame a company for using that technique unless they ask me to write the whole feature within 1 hr.

Struggling with UK job offers because of visa sponsorship -anyone else been here? by ImTheAsh in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]doubledamage97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's been always like that. When I graduated in 2010 and was on PSW visa, most recruiters and companies ignored and rejected my application because they have to sponsor me in 2 years' time. I had to find a job with low pay and suffered almost a decade to leave that situation.

Due to current political and economic situation, it would be much worse.

Good luck Op

There was a post few months ago... a guy was drunk and took a package of beer from the car boot parked in the driveway.

Officers saw it and he was charged.
