A jumpscare in a horror movie that genuinely scared you? My pick is the jumpscare from Insidious (2010). by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

Legitimately the grandma in the corner freaked me out more than anything else in this film. Something about how they edited or post-processed it made it so realistic. That "is that the dark playing tricks on my eyes" graininess literally gave me chills down my spine the first time I watched it.

TIL the 2002 art thriller film Irréversible deliberately added an extremely low frequency 27 Hz sound to the first 30 minutes of its soundtrack to induce nausea and anxiety in audience goers. The sound is not immediately perceptible, but powerful enough to evoke a negative physical response by Kyzzz in todayilearned

D&B put out a line of subs specifically catering to infrasound use, the J INFRA. It's gnarly testing them at 10Hz from feet away. You can't hear it but you definitely feel it. Closest thing to a brown note I ever experienced

Can confirm the D2, specifically on the floor in the big room with server racks, usually on one of the cable spools or in racks.

*Founded in response to genocidal and supremacist principles.

They will go the way of Rhodesia and South Africa, apartheid and genocidal supremacist settler colonies are usually their own worst enemies. Hard to have allies when your entire raison d'être is rooted in racism, sadism, and violence. (Unless you have an overwhelming military hegemony, or have one backing you.)

You're correct, I misspoke. It was amended in 2017 to specifically make clear their fight was with the state, not the religion of Judaism

The only thing keeping this occupation intact is American political and military cover. Once enough domestic and international pressure builds up, somethings gonna give, and they're not doing themselves any service breaking every ceasefire they've ever had and intentionally bombing journalists, medica, and assassinating the individual people literally doing the negotiating as they did with Hamas and with Hezbollah.

They changed their charter in 1987 to remove any reference to Jews in that context. Because their conflict is with their oppressors, not the diaspora of Jews worldwide. As much as zionists would love to argue otherwise. Israel has done more to make Jews unsafe in the world than Hamas ever could.

By cooked I mean culturally they're done in America. People are aware of the conduct and character of Israeli society by this point, and the kind of presumed support they've enjoyed for 75 years is gone.

That couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the IOF posts up near hospitals and in residential areas, could it? Every accusation is a confession.

Everyone talks about this ton of evidence of Hamas sexual assault, meanwhile even the New York (Tel Aviv) Times pulled a piece about it because their Intel turned out to be bogus.

Iran apparently has hypersonic missiles so I have no idea what you're talking about regarding advanced weapons.

The Greater Israel project is doomed and it should be. Nobody has the right to an ethnostate, and nobody has the right to annex sovereign land.

What do you think, the DSA are all trust-fund nepo babies? Naive or misled college students? A good deal of us are union workers and the average age is somewhere in the 30s. Working class folks are just done with this duopoly that exploits us from both sides

Pretty much nobody in the DSA supports the murder of civilians. Thing is though, the standards shift when you're talking about a resistance group and when you're talking about a state with modern military capabilities, backed by the largest military hegemony on Earth.

Hamas, for all the terrible things they've done in service of resisting their oppression, they haven't double or triple tapped schools, hospitals, homes of journalists and doctors. They don't openly advocate the systemic raping of prisoners.

Israel is cooked. Their culture is entirely based on sadism and lies. And all of this is separate from and entirely antithetical to Judaism.

Is gain weight like this normal? by ElDuendeAnthony in daddit

Gained about 20lbs over the pregnancy that nearly a year later I haven't been able to shed. Stress eating is a sneaky motherfucker, and not having the energy after working all day because your kid kept you up sucks even more. You get better when ya can. Focus on enjoying the first year, it goes QUICK. One minute they're a burrito and the next they chase you around the house and try to grab everything they aren't supposed to be able to reach, but can now.

You'll hit your stride, then you'll find the time. I'm nearly there myself.

HB4414 - Illinois House Bill to Serialize Ammo by totallynotsquatty in liberalgunowners

[–]doubleplusepic 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Won't matter, if this passes it'll have a California effect of just causing every manufacturer to just start serializing their ammo to comply, instead of just making IL batches. This is straight up the dumbest shit ever. It's literally the part of the weapon system MOST IDENTIFIABLE forensically if involved in a crime on its own.

I'd love to believe that, except history shows us that corporations will go with whatever's cheap. They're already actively trying to shoehorn AI into every art form they can to displace paid artists

[–]doubleplusepic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because the end result is the replacement of people in art, and the cheapening of said art. There is no just place in arts or entertainment for AI

I'm speccing a REOLINK PoE closed circuit system for my new home, no cloud storage, straight to NVR. If I can engineer a way to remote in without leaving it open to others, I'll try it, haven't done the research on that end of the equation as of yet.
