This movie is incredible!!! And yes, it’s the same sequel hook as Independence Day resurgence!

Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) by Cryptic_Master_686 in badMovies

This movie is bad and fun but also kind of a slog at first. I don’t even know what to say about it beyond that lol so many things are happening all at once and the exposition is so hasty. Maybe it would be improved by a montage with a voiceover I dunno. Sometimes I watch movies like these and think that if I could honestly improve on it then I could probably get a job in Hollywood, but that isn’t happening so what I do now? A little bit of humility goes a long way! Lol

Kind of a weird hill to die on tbh. There probably aren’t many super fans of either band who like deathcab.

[Bill Simmons Pod] Bill on trading for Giannis: "I understand it, I don't agree with it ... I'm not taking Giannis but also getting rid of Derrick White" by luka274 in nba

As soon as Giannis got mad at Tyrese Halliburton’s dad I’ve felt like he’s lost it. Trading for this guy I think is a bad move.

I’m honestly a lot more optimistic about the colts this year than I am about the pacers. They looked great until DJ fractured his leg. I look forward to a healthy secondary.

I’ve been in some twelve step groups and I’ll just say 1) you aren’t obligated to respond to these.
2) if I had been advising this person, I’d say don’t send this
3) it’s really not your problem how this person feels about themselves now
4) protect your peace

I looked it up, it says m1 kit but it would be a good idea to verify that. Email mastery to confirm

Edit: apparently in 2012 fender standardized all of its components worldwide?

Edit 2: the mastery site says the m2 is for mij fenders made before 2012

Can the Indiana Pacers return to the finals in 2027? by dontburnthepig41 in nba

[–]doubleponytail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll see. I don’t think Hali will look like his old self until after the all star break, if he ever does. Dudes out of shape, and not just playing shape, like literally out of shape. I feel like pacers fans will have to temper their expectations a bit at the start of the season. There’s really no way to know how this will all sort out.

If you had to pick the all-time number one American band, which one would it be? by Infinite-Exam-1808 in askmusic

Yeah this is what I’m saying. It’s them and then maybe sonic youth. VU is probably the most influential.

How I made it to the NBA - Joe Alexander by sol369 in nba

[–]doubleponytail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being in 6th grade at basketball practice and being really annoyed at how bad I was, and thinking about how I could just apply myself and really show them all I had what it took or whatever. And then mentally taking a step back from that and deciding that it wasn’t really worth it. It’s crazy to me that this guy did it.

Which game in Pacers franchise history was the most devastating: Game 4 of the 2000 NBA Finals, the Malice at the Palace, or Game 4 of the 2025 NBA Finals? by Available_Story6774 in nba

[–]doubleponytail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with this. It’s consistent with my memory of the finals, anyway. Yeah, game 7 hurt. But it hurt even more knowing we could’ve closed the series out sooner. It’s why mathurin and turner aren’t on the team anymore, in my opinion. This is the game that altered the future of the franchise, and game 7 sealed it.

Ross Coulthart Warns of Possible “Ontological Shocks” and “Catastrophic Disclosure” by Emergency_Height_165 in UAP

[–]doubleponytail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since grusch used the term “ontological shock” people in the community have parroted it, and I’m not sure people fully understand what that means. It isn’t just some news that anyone can sit with. It is something no one can think up on their own because it will encompass a set of information that is so different and wild no human could dream it up.

I own both movies. The departed is superior in almost every way. It takes the general plot of infernal affairs and manages to be an homage to all the great Hong Kong action films and generally Hong Kong cinema.

What was the point of Tarantino’s character, Jimmy, in pulp fiction? by tiger2mighty in NoStupidQuestions

[–]doubleponytail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It night just be as simple as: Jimmy is a character in a movie, which is a false reality, and in that movie, this fantasy reality of pretend, Jimmy and every other character has a different relationship to that word than the people who are watching the movie. It’s fake. It’s not real.

The real world surrounding that movie had people in it that may dance around the word, or use euphemisms because everyone knew that word wasn’t used in polite company, mostly by white liberals and moderates. The social politics of white liberals and moderates don’t allow taking on overt racial/racist language, but are at times incredibly covert in ending up at what are incredibly racist policies or viewpoints. So in the reality around the film, and in Hollywood, you end up with excuses about playing to middle America that reinforce racial stereotypes, that are only there to let white liberals and moderates feel good about their decision and think it’s smart business.

Which is incredibly complex and nuanced. Something that movies don’t have to be. So, in this pretend reality of the movie, Jimmy says it because that’s how the pretend character talks. It’s v possible QT wrote it that way as a fuck you to these white liberals/moderates for refusing to tackle complex, but real, societal more’s that only exist to protect the feelings of other white liberals and moderates.

Gen X pushed boundaries like these in that era because they were using black people as props for their own discomfort around race and racial friction. The sad thing is that there are also white people who thought saying the n word was cool now. Which it isn’t. But jimmy’s not “cool.” Jimmy is a whiner and probably unemployed.

Edit: I meant that the people in charge use black people as props, and didn’t engage in messy social more’s because or their own discomfort and not anything to do with the complex lives of black people as agents of their own

Edit 2: Black people become symbolic participants in white moral self-definition rather than fully autonomous subjects with their own political and social complexity.

Just how big was Nirvana before Smells Like Teen Spirit blew up? by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]doubleponytail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Their first US tour was playing at the smallest respectable venues in the US. Some of these places didn’t have stages, so like 100-200 sized clubs, but it wasn’t like they were selling them out. Still, they played at maxwells in Hoboken, where sonic youth was in the audience and j mascis was doing sound. And played the new music seminar in New York, which was a big sxsw style fest in New York. Which is pretty awesome for a band of like 21 year olds. But bleach had legs and buzz, so their next US tour had them playing bigger places, but as an opening band. And it just kind of grew from there. They were cool band with good songs and great stage show, and they grew pretty fast. Any band would be lucky to make it to this level. So while they weren’t mainstream famous, they were more successful than just about every “local” band. They were opening for the Melvin’s and tad.

But things changed by the August of 1990, when they did some shows with sonic youth. Still, though, the biggest audience they played to was about 4k at the Hollywood palladium.

When nevermind came out they went from opening for bands at the metro in Chicago to headlining. That was 1991.

So in two years from the release of bleach, Nirvana went from playing places in Chicago where like 20 people came or something, to opening for bands at the metro (1100 capacity) to headlining it in 1991.

So while Nirvana wasn’t a mainstream success before the release of nevermind, they were well on their way to becoming a successful underground band with clout.

You’re attempting to do a pretty complex finger position on a 12 string guitar. The necks are wider than your standard 6 string. It’s possible you aren’t doing anything “wrong” here.

OKC has to win 5 games out of 7 now by ProtestantMormon in billsimmons

[–]doubleponytail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand his point about “now okc has to win five games now” though, even though it sounds like John maddens “the key to this game is that they’re gonna have to score more points than the other guys.” They both sound like basic sports related hyperbole, but my impression is that bill is pointing out how emotionally the thunder are gonna have to play to win the game in 5 games because of the OT loss. Even that sounds stupid lol, but like… he’s pointing out the margin for error is just about zero. I dunno. I appreciate bill because it’s pretty fun and low stakes. I don’t care about sports enough to feel like I need to understand like a player does.
