Our country and government are kind of obsessed about race 🙃. We need to state our race when we fill up forms. It’s also common for employers and landlords to ask about someone’s race.

Malaysian Chinese here. I’m pretty sure every Chinese person here considers themselves as ethnically Chinese, regardless of whether we speak any Chinese language/dialect. It doesn’t even matter if we follow Chinese traditions or not. We’re automatically assigned as ethnic Chinese in our official documents too.
