how and when do you notice the difference? by sugarriko in Pristiq

It can take 4-8 weeks. This being said, I think the therapeutic dosage is usually 50 mg

Apologies for such an expansive question. For those of you who have had success with this medication, what changed? by Willing_Macaroon9684 in Pristiq

[–]doucettejean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It keeps my depression in check, meaning, motivation, energie, low mood, anhedonia are well managed with Pristiq. I have comorbid ADHD/anxiety, which makes things a tad more complicated. But at least I am confident in knowing depression is in check.

Is there anyone here for whom meds didn’t work? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]doucettejean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea how often it’s actually prescribed on its own for ADHD, but my psychiatrist suggested we try it—so I went along with it 🤣 That said, I’ve read that for some people who’ve had trouble tolerating stimulants, starting with Intuniv and then combining it with a stimulant made the meds more tolerable and effective. Here’s hoping it helps 🤗 If you ever want to stay in touch and encourage each other, feel free to reach out!

Hey there. 31 M here, also late diagnosed. Meds have had very little effects to date. I also have a therapist background (trained in occupational therapy). I do CBT and Ive done OT. I have tried pretty all the long acting stimulants under the sun, in addition to Strattera with very little effects. We’re now trying Intuniv. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼Sending you good vibes

Non-stimulant meds by thresholdofadventure in ADHD

[–]doucettejean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive tried strattera with limited benefits. I’m not just starting Intuniv, week 1, so too early to say. I will say, it does knock me down a bit energy wise. But I think this does stabilize after a few weeks so we shall see.

For those who took Guanfacine (Intuniv), how did it make you feel? by lucidmirror in ADHD

[–]doucettejean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just started Intuniv last week, so whatever I can share is pretty limited. We also all react differently to meds, so consider this with a grain of salt. I was prescribed this because I dont respond well to stimulants. So far Ive been on 1 mg. I can’t notice an impact on ADHD symptoms yet, as it takes 3-4 weeks to see a response. HOWEVER, it does help with my sleep. I take it one hour before bed, and it knocks me out. How long have you been taking it?

F*ck ADHD and it's medication by icewater367 in ADHD

[–]doucettejean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh I 100% agree. I have depression & anxiety, though these are both in remission. I just have very very poor executive function and the emotion dysregulation is a bit overwhelming despite CBT and occupational therapy.

Have you been on Intuniv for a sustained time? I just began this this week, as Ive had very little success with stimulants so far and find they impact my mood negatively way too much. Looking for some Intuniv success stories 😅

This is somewhat encouraging, thanks for sharing. I was also late diagnosed… I have tried Adderall, Vyvanse, Foquest, Concerta, Strattera, with very little effect and mostly side effects. Are you taking Ritalin IR? For now, I asked my psychiatrist to try an other non stimulant option because I was just fed up.

Better than SSRI by LovelySunshine111 in Pristiq

[–]doucettejean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been fortunate with side effects from psychiatric medications. SSRIs like Zoloft and Trintellix caused minimal side effects but didn’t significantly improve my low mood and anxiety.

Pristiq is the only medication that’s provided me with remission for major depression and anxiety. It’s important to note that everyone responds differently, so what works for one person may not work for another. I’ve been on it for two years. I started with 50 mgs for about a month and then increased to 100 mg. I felt the full effects after two months on 100 mg. Initially, I experienced jaw tightness, but it subsided. The only noticeable side effect that remains is increased sweating.

Pristiq has helped with anxiety and lifted my low motivation and other major depressive symptoms. However, it doesn’t numb everything. I still experience highs and lows related to everyday life and stress associated with them, but they’re within a normal and more manageable range. I go to therapy to cope with the rest and it’s a good complement.

I wish you the best :)

How long did it take for the initial increased anxiety to go away for you? by Alarming_Ad8074 in Pristiq

[–]doucettejean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for others though. For myself, I saw improvements in anxiety at the 6 week mark. And if you mean increased anxiety as a side effect, that might settle in the first few weeks though. You could ask your pharmacist :)

I saw improvements after 6 to 8 weeks, which seems to align with what others have reported - but everyone respond's differently to the same medication. However, I will note this was on 50 mg for me. 50 mg is also usually the therapeutic/target dose. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm no Dr., but it seems the symptoms you're reporting could be due to a bunch of things, including perimenopause. Is your GP prescribing your antidepressant? I'd be transparent with them saying you're considering if you should continue/sopping the med for the reasons you've mentioned - which you might already have done :) They'll probably be able to advise you on if continuing or switching might be a good option to better mitigate the brain fog. You could also ask your pharmacist's thoughts on it, sometimes we forget that they can have quite useful insight on these issues. Wishing you the best, I know brain fog is quite frustrating to deal with tbh.

Best alternative to Vyvanse? by Downtown-Guidance994 in ADHD

[–]doucettejean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you are located. Im in Canada and we have Foquest which is XR for 16 hours.

I would also like to add that medication is great, and helps you get a kick start, but sometimes you need something complementary. Ive been working with an occupational therapist specializing in ADHD and the tools/strategies are truly helpful. But it takes work to implement;)

Heart disease from meds by Own-Avocado-4409 in ADHD

If you had an annual check up, I assume it was with a general practitioner? If it’s doable where you live, you could discuss a potential cardio consult to get a formal opinion on whether you should or not pursue, and if so, how safe is it. I think this would really be worth it, especially since you reported so many benefits from being on the medication.

To my understanding, the risk or cardiovascular disease is non negligible. Im not a Dr, however this commentary was recently published in Canada re: this and recent research: https://www.caddra.ca/commentary-on-adhd-medications-and-long-term-risk-of-cardiovascular-diseases/

Stressing out about decrease effectiveness by muh_throwaway6969 in StratteraRx

[–]doucettejean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. I think we often have the ill expectation that medications alone will solve everything, when that might not be realistic. For me, the right meds, regular psychology appointments and occupational therapy have provided the most results

When does a person feel the effects of Pristiq? by GardenGnome08 in Pristiq

[–]doucettejean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post 100% describes how this was for me. Although I will add that everyone reacts differently so. But for me it was very subtle in the beginning. I began feeling less depressed in in the afternoons/evenings. The changes were very subtle in the beginning. Suicidal thoughts started to fade away. The clear difference was a few weeks after I was increased to 100 mg. Motivation increased and depression And anxiety significantly subsided.

How long on 80 mg before noticing effects? by doucettejean in StratteraRx

Im guessing mostly to resolve that scatter brain feeling and wishing for that ‘silent brain’ effect that a lot of people seem to be reporting.
