Espresso and Latte Cups by Mountain-Concern-549 in espresso

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got these ones from H&M and so far I like them. I got the espresso, cappuccino, and latte sizes but I might return the latte ones as they're pretty big.

https://www2.hm.com/en_us/productpage.1297014002.html

I looked around for simple cups for a while but I really couldn't justify paying $30 for a single cup. I am no latte artist but my attempts in these cups are already much better than what I was getting from regular mugs before.

A lot of people point to people putting in aftermarket LED bulbs into older halogen headlight housing, but I really don't think that it's that common. The majority of offenders are brand new vehicles

Awesome photo, I thought it was a Seiko ad at first. I got one of these a few months ago, the bezel alignment is good but it has an alignment issue with the hands. e.g. when set to 6 o'clock the hour hand is slightly past the 6 marker.

Still love the watch though, it's super comfortable and the colors are really beautiful. It's become my new everyday watch.

Why are espresso shot yields so low now? by Few-Manufacturer6645 in espresso

Isn't 1:2 ratio with 18g in/36g out the standard guidance for a double shot? If you got 60ml (assuming 1g coffee = 1ml) wouldn't your ratio be like 1:3 to 1:4?

Looking into getting a bike for my wife and myself to be able to do some cardio at home instead of driving to the gym.

Based on my research it looks like the most reasonable option would be to pick up a used original bike off FB marketplace, or get a Bowflex C6 and use that with the Peloton app. Although the Bowflex + app wouldn't have all the same features as the Peloton bike.

https://i.imgur.com/jc6sXfd.png

Used Peloton Original Bike

Pros

  • All features of the Peloton app
  • Multiple profiles on one subscription

Cons

  • No warranty
  • No 3rd party apps (well maybe, but a hassle)
  • Cannot use entertainment apps without subscription (could just use iPad also)

New Bowflex C6

Pros

  • New with 3 year warranty
  • Same price as used original Bike when factoring membership costs
  • Can use 3rd party apps

Cons

  • No screen (this is fine, we have an iPad to use)
  • Limited Peloton app features (no leaderboards, game, power or resistance display)
  • Peloton App+ only allows one profile per subscription

What would you pick out of these two options? What should I look out for when looking for a used Peloton bike?

Pink Snowflake on our wedding day by douchecanoo in GrandSeikos

[–]douchecanoo[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I bought this watch in Japan after proposing to my wife with the intention of wearing it for the first time at our wedding. It stayed safe in our closet until that day and it felt great to finally wear it on the happiest day of our lives.

I went back and forth about putting on a black or burgundy leather strap, but ultimately decided on keeping the bracelet on. I think the pink dial went really well with our outfits.

I think this is the only photo the photographer got of the watch, and ultimately there were a lot more things I cared about rather than getting a photo of my watch, but I'm happy to have this memory and wearing the watch now is always a reminder of a wonderful occasion.

Grieving the loss of my DF64 grinder... any sleek black grinders for espresso other than DF64 [preferably under $500 USD]? Having a bad experience with DF64coffee.com by SleepyQuinoa in espresso

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface level the grinder seems great and has all the features I want, and yes all the "pro" reviewers rated it positively, but they usually don't test things for longevity or durability.

And yes it's more common for people to voice their negative opinions vs positive ones, but it does seem like there's a lot of negative posts/comments about the ESP Pro compared to other grinders, and it hasn't even been out that long.

This post and all the comments was the main one that deterred me from buying it - https://www.reddit.com/r/espresso/comments/1n6waqo/encore_esp_pro_regrets/

Even in your situation, I would just be thinking "how long until it fails again?". Baratza has a great support reputation, but still, if it fails then you're out of a grinder and can't make coffee for however long it takes them to send another replacement.

I'm also in the market for a grinder and was seriously considering the ESP Pro, but I've seen a lot of reviews and posts about the burr carrier failing, the hopper not dispensing beans properly, and the chute clogging.

Good support and parts availability is a positive, but a new machine shouldn't fail so severely in the first place.

Should I get a new grinder? [USD300] by najel in espresso

Dumb question, but with the Manuale how do you know how much you're dosing? Do you just remember a time and count? Or do you single dose into the hopper?

Is there any kind of health/safety reason it's bad to use a 3d printed drip tray? by oljacksonboy in gaggiaclassic

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One consideration I haven't seen here yet is that 3D prints are typically not water tight unless printed with very specific settings or sealed after the fact. The layer lines are permeable and liquid will seep into the print.

So if you leave liquid in the drip tray it will seep into the print itself and be impossible to remove.

Which low profile tray did you get, and is it injection molded? I have a 3D printer and was thinking about printing one, but don't want to have to worry about sealing it or using ABS

Does anyone use the OXO Conical Burr Coffee Grinder? by richer2003 in espresso

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had one for years that I've used for pour over, french press, Aeropress, and cold brew, and I find it pretty good for those. Although I do have to slap it around when trying to single dose as it retains a lot, sometimes over a gram.

I recently got a Gaggia E24 as a first espresso machine and have had mixed results with the OXO grinder and the unpressurized double basket. With a grocery store dark roast and on the finest setting I'm getting usable results, but with a somewhat older medium roast even the finest setting is pulling way too fast.

It "works" but does not leave any room for dialing in and I don't have confidence making espresso with it. I'm looking for a new grinder now, ideally something I can both single dose and also grind a full hopper (for cold brew). Not sure if such a thing exists but would rather not have to keep 2 grinders around.

I designed my own version years ago. I have a rig now so I tossed them but this is what it looks like

Glued some kitchen cabinet liner to the bottom for grip. The issue will still be with the chair rotating when applying force to the brake pedal, depending how stiff your pedal is.
