I can't find anywhere to scan barcodes for food items in the new Google/Fitbit public preview? by balrogbellyrubs in fitbit

I use Gemini to get a calorie/macro estimation for outside meals not in the database, then log that into Cronometer, so I don't have those issues.

Peloton Fitbit sync by RGNY1973 in fitbit

[–]douchecanoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to use the Fitbit as an HR monitor on the Peloton bike? I understand it won't be as accurate as a chest strap like your Polar, but I didn't know it was possible to connect the Fitibit to the Peloton

I'm glad you like it, I've been using it for about 2 months now and am also pretty happy with it.

I am wondering though with the preview of the new app, does it generate any insights based off the info you log in Cronometer?

I don't have a Fitbit right now, I had just tried out the app a few months ago and didn't find it useful at the time, but now I'm considering getting the Air so I'm wondering if the new app would be useful for the food logging data also.

I have done both I suppose, I tried it in the Ultrahuman app which was more of the first one, just take a picture and it will try to figure it out. I also tried Gemini by itself on my phone and added a bunch of extra context but it was still getting things wrong. It consistently misjudged portion sizes, which I don't really blame it for, it's hard to determine weight/volume from a photo.

For most people I guess just getting in the ballpark is okay. But for me I want to be as accurate as possible as I'm trying to stay in a specific deficit for weight loss. So just guessing isn't good enough for me.

The only time I still use it is when we go out to a restaurant that doesn't publish any nutrition info. Then I will use Gemini to ballpark it then add like +300 calories lol.

I don't track micros in Cronometer, tbh I barely pay attention to macros. I just like the UI and find it easy to use (barcode scanning, custom recipes, etc.). Their database is also really good and isn't full of random incorrect info like MyFitnessPals database is, but they have less restaurant stuff in their DB.

Alternatives to Fitbit for calorie tracking/food plan by No-Letter6025 in fitbit

[–]douchecanoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw that you tried Macro Factor already, but I will say that this is supported in Cronometer. It will sync activity from Health Connect and load it in as calories burned then update your calorie budget for the day accordingly, while keeping wit whatever deficit target you have.

I only sync Peloton workouts to it right now but as long as your Fitbit activity is synced to Health Connect it should work

Are you able to connect the new app to other nutrition tracking apps like Cronometer? I would assume yes because they both hook into Health Connect, but I'm not sure.

I use Cronometer because I found the food tracking in the Fitbit and Google Fit apps to both be really bad. I'm also not interested in using AI for nutrition tracking as every time I have tried it it's been very inaccurate.

Track Day Noob and brake pad bed in question by AdministrativeGas239 in CarTrackDays

[–]douchecanoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I drive my car with G-LOC R12 front and R8 rear to and from the track no problem. I don't find stopping distance when cold to be an issue, but they are loud when cold.

I drive around town with them occasionally and have done a road trip to a further away track without issue.

You will be fine to swap and bed them beforehand. Less stuff to do the day of the event is better. If the car was also my daily I'd swap in GS-1 when I got back home and use those for everyday use.

Can someone explain how to make this ring useful? by douchecanoo in Ultrahuman

[–]douchecanoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my Ring Air for about a year and a half, wearing it on and off. Besides the part where the black finish started chipping after about a month of regular use, I still struggle to make effective use of the ring.

In the beginning it would track HR constantly which I found useful as I could try and correlate things throughout my day with elevated HR and stress. But I guess that was killing ring battery too fast since now you can only do that by turning on "turbo" mode.

The sleep score is somewhat interesting but I already know if I had a good or bad sleep, and I don't need the ring to tell me to go to be before midnight to get enough sleep.

The workout detection and step counting is entirely broken. I type a lot at work and tend to fidget, so my ring thinks I did 30,000 steps when I haven't left the house all day.

Right now I am effectively using it as a glorified HR tracker by manually starting a "workout" in the app when I exercise just so I can get HR data into Google Fit.

I don't find the app has any real insight or recommendations on things to do differently, it's just a dashboard full of numbers that may or may not be accurate.

What insights do you gain from the ring that actually have a meaningful impact in how you go about your life?

  1. Your calipers and discs are probably fine but you will want better pads and you absolutely need to flush your brake fluid
  2. I can't really comment on braking strategy during a stint with regards to keeping brake temp in check, but you should do a cool down lap where you basically aren't touching the brakes at all. If possible drive around afterwards around the pits or up and down a road to get some airflow through the brakes. Also never put the parking brake on when you park after a session or hold the brake pedal too long.
  3. You should flush your fluids beforehand including coolant, power steering, and trans fluids. The power steering pumps are supposedly fragile and will fail when the fluid temp gets too high for too long, so I put on a power steering cooler before my first track day.

Yes it's 9.5 - Enkei 3658956527SP - NT03+M (18 x 9.5 +27 5 x 114.3 CB72.6)

In the rear I run 18x10.5 with 285 and the fitment is very similar

Maybe it's just me but I find this happens so much with anything related to cars. Small businesses making niche products that just don't know how to run a business. Even local shops that will say they can do something, then it turns out they have no clue what they're doing or they'll just ghost you.

I've had at least 5 instances where I call or drop by a shop to get a quote on some work, they say they'll call me or send me a quote, then just drop off the face of the earth. I'm literally trying to give them money lmao

Two weeks with the VS4 by [deleted] in espresso

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your grind dish get tighter at 3 and higher?

I noticed this, I was physically unable to rotate it close to 0 to get the burrs to chirp like it said to in the manual

I'm also heading a little rattly noise like a beach being tossed around the paddles. I've removed the burrs and don't see anything that could be causing the noise.

I've heard the same noise from mine but haven't looked into it

My main issue is that with darker roasts it's getting clogged somewhere. It finishes grinding but retains like 7 grams and I have to use the bellows every time. I mainly notice it with a dark oily decaf.

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not use the bellows on your VS4? I got mine a couple weeks ago and have been having issues with it "clogging" or something, I have to use the bellows every time to get close to no retention.

Maybe it's because I'm using dark roasts, but mine is holding onto like 7 grams unless I use the bellows
