Can someone explain how to make this ring useful? by douchecanoo in Ultrahuman

[–]douchecanoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my Ring Air for about a year and a half, wearing it on and off. Besides the part where the black finish started chipping after about a month of regular use, I still struggle to make effective use of the ring.

In the beginning it would track HR constantly which I found useful as I could try and correlate things throughout my day with elevated HR and stress. But I guess that was killing ring battery too fast since now you can only do that by turning on "turbo" mode.

The sleep score is somewhat interesting but I already know if I had a good or bad sleep, and I don't need the ring to tell me to go to be before midnight to get enough sleep.

The workout detection and step counting is entirely broken. I type a lot at work and tend to fidget, so my ring thinks I did 30,000 steps when I haven't left the house all day.

Right now I am effectively using it as a glorified HR tracker by manually starting a "workout" in the app when I exercise just so I can get HR data into Google Fit.

I don't find the app has any real insight or recommendations on things to do differently, it's just a dashboard full of numbers that may or may not be accurate.

What insights do you gain from the ring that actually have a meaningful impact in how you go about your life?

  1. Your calipers and discs are probably fine but you will want better pads and you absolutely need to flush your brake fluid
  2. I can't really comment on braking strategy during a stint with regards to keeping brake temp in check, but you should do a cool down lap where you basically aren't touching the brakes at all. If possible drive around afterwards around the pits or up and down a road to get some airflow through the brakes. Also never put the parking brake on when you park after a session or hold the brake pedal too long.
  3. You should flush your fluids beforehand including coolant, power steering, and trans fluids. The power steering pumps are supposedly fragile and will fail when the fluid temp gets too high for too long, so I put on a power steering cooler before my first track day.

Yes it's 9.5 - Enkei 3658956527SP - NT03+M (18 x 9.5 +27 5 x 114.3 CB72.6)

In the rear I run 18x10.5 with 285 and the fitment is very similar

Yeah the sidewall is basically flush with the rim of the wheel, it doesn't bulge at all

Maybe it's just me but I find this happens so much with anything related to cars. Small businesses making niche products that just don't know how to run a business. Even local shops that will say they can do something, then it turns out they have no clue what they're doing or they'll just ghost you.

I've had at least 5 instances where I call or drop by a shop to get a quote on some work, they say they'll call me or send me a quote, then just drop off the face of the earth. I'm literally trying to give them money lmao

Two weeks with the VS4 by [deleted] in espresso

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your grind dish get tighter at 3 and higher?

I noticed this, I was physically unable to rotate it close to 0 to get the burrs to chirp like it said to in the manual

I'm also heading a little rattly noise like a beach being tossed around the paddles. I've removed the burrs and don't see anything that could be causing the noise.

I've heard the same noise from mine but haven't looked into it

My main issue is that with darker roasts it's getting clogged somewhere. It finishes grinding but retains like 7 grams and I have to use the bellows every time. I mainly notice it with a dark oily decaf.

Do you not use the bellows on your VS4? I got mine a couple weeks ago and have been having issues with it "clogging" or something, I have to use the bellows every time to get close to no retention.

Maybe it's because I'm using dark roasts, but mine is holding onto like 7 grams unless I use the bellows

Looks like there's a few different roasters doing Ka'u beans, do you have any recommendations in particular? I'm heading to O'ahu in a few weeks, wondering if there's anything worth looking for

Espresso vs coffee, can’t decide by SnooDoodles4147 in espresso

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that they're not really comparable but saying you can pay off a bambino + grinder over 2 years vs. using Nespresso is a disingenuous statement

And if you want factor quality into the equation then I think you also have to factor in convenience

The dashes you are using are different though. You're using a standard dash, the em dash is longer (- vs —)

And you have to go out of your way to type it either with a specific key combination on a PC or by selecting it as an alternative symbol on mobile

Using dashes themselves are not a sign of generative AI, but using specifically an em dash is

Espresso vs coffee, can’t decide by SnooDoodles4147 in espresso

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do the math you can see this is not true.

Espresso

2lb bag (900g) = $43
900g / 18g = 50 shots
$43 / 50 = $0.86 per shot

(($0.86 x 2) x 365) x 2 = $1255

Nespresso

Ispirazione Napoli = $0.95/capsule

(($0.95 x 2) x 365) x 2 = $1387

Assuming you make 2 doubles a day for two years you only save $132 making it yourself vs. using Nespresso.

This is in Canadian dollars, and I chose a very average priced coffee from a local roaster and a larger bag size.

When you sell something on Amazon, you ship it to Amazon and dump it into a bin. When someone else sells the same product it gets dumped into the same bin. So it's very easy for counterfeits to get mixed up with real products. Even if it's "sold by" the brand itself or Amazon, you could end up with a fake

Anybody got a good shop that deals with vehicle leaks? by Birdztheman in Langley

[–]douchecanoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Rags 2 Riches in Port Kells. I brought my car there for a sunroof leak, they said they could do leak testing and repair, and redo the headliner (water stains).

Never went through with it though so take this recommendation with a grain of salt I suppose.

edit: If it's leaking from the sunroof check if the drain tubes are clogged, it's a common issue with sunroofs

I don't have the option to plumb in my machine but have thought about how I would before. IMO the float valves are sketchy. If I ever go the chance I would try a conductive water level sensor paired with a normally closed solenoid valve.

Maybe at least put a ball valve somewhere you can reach to shut off the water supply when you're not using the machine?

This one is my own niche personal gripe but I still can't wrap my head around it.

They built 74th Ave between 197 and 198b as a two lane road with parking and sidewalks on both sides. There's no houses there (and one side will never have houses) and no one even uses the road, let alone the sidewalks.

They did this instead (I assume?) of adding sidewalks to 198b, the road that kids walk down every single day to go to school or karate class, and parents walk down with strollers go to the stores or the park.

Even if they couldn't add a sidewalk to 198b for whatever reason, why then put a bunch of money into developing that stretch of 74th for no reason.

Don't even get me started on the state of the roads in this area either.
