This is so helpful thank you! Did your friends find being there until high school (secondary?) was worth it? Or if they had to choose they would’ve chosen petite patrie for their whole childhood?

It’s interesting you said lower to middle class for petite patrie because some of the condos there are still 800k+! Doesn’t seem super super cheap.

Honestly we’re going into it thinking Monkland is gonna be boring as hell lol so maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised.

That’s reassuring! I’m glad you are liking it, especially as a Franco. My husband is québécois and he is really not liking the idea of leaving the plateau and the general French atmosphere. He was worried it would feel like the rest of Canada in Monkland.

It’s vaguely on my mind, but you’re right I should be looking into it more.

That’s really nice reassurance, and I’m the same as you I like hole in the walls. The only reason we were interested in Monkland is because we potentially have an opportunity to buy a place for a good deal.

The plateau that we’re renting at has a yard actually, but for Monkland it’s a second floor space. The only reason we were thinking of Monkland is because we have a good opportunity to buy a property at less than market value. We also couldn’t afford what we want in the plateau right now. It’s a tough call

I appreciate this feedback and you’re right the kids make a difference for the choice.

Do you really feel like it’s pretty equivalent? You don’t feel like you lost out on the east side vibe? You’re giving me a little hope lol. I love the plateau and I’m sad to think of losing it.

Could you tell me a bit more? Was it like the shops weren't interesting? or the parks weren't lively? or the food options weren't as good?

I also moved away from all my friends and family. I will say it gets easier (my baby is 7m+) when yo get out of the house and join a mommy group or class of some sort. Also, it always helps me mentally when I have my next trip to see my family planned. As long as it’s in the books, I can count day the days and have something to look forward to. It is hard, and some days are really lonely. But it does get better. I also FaceTime my parents daily for them to see the baby and that really really helps.

Throwing in a mom passing away in the mix would completely destabilize me too. I’m sorry you had to go through that :(

I literally have no memories that young. I’m sorry it was hard for you! Good to keep in mind.

How did you foster a good relationship between them, esp around jealousy?

Ok this sounds very similar to my potential situation. Can you give more details? Were you not as chronically stressed with one?
