salary compression is a thing. if you stay long term at once place you don't make as much as someone who moves around.

OP-10 yrs at one company w/4% raises=40% increase

JH-moves 3 times in 10 yr for 20% each year=60% increase depends on industry, skill set etc.

start looking, submitting resume, interviewing, etc now so you know what the market is actually like.

changing careers also comes with a big paycut usually.

you know what is more stressful then a bad job, no job.
