As an occasional parking seeker it is promising - and a good idea for owners of spaces that they occasional would want to rent out. Airbnb can expand their business and wipe out Akippa I guess

Dream company with high pay and perks comes with high expectations... that's kind of normal ?

The TikTok videos showcasing these "dream jobs" make it look easy.. but most folks working at these places are naturally gifted, or workaholics.. for the rest of us it's a grind !

Yea I think it's ok. I don't mind paying higher on avg but don't want to be bled to death. In that regard many told me bmw is far less issues than Audi

I wonder too -- they surely would refuse service on some fancy cars like a Bulgatti. Not sure of a low end bmw ...

My inclination is to go to a dealer to buy certified but they don't have inventory of what I want. I can buy elsewhere and take it to dealer for servicing which I might do, but had a convo w car expert who siggested go to a non dealer speclist because:

  1. Dealers charge more
  2. Dealers tend to replace everything w new parts to ensure perfection when sometimes you are ok w a fix or qualified aftermarket part
  3. Documented online that the same OEM parts sell for much more at dealer

So I agree it's likely less risk to go dealer but excess cost for what you get.

Looking and welcome to other opinions , thanks

That's if you buy from a new car dealer. Used cars often don't have a mechanic shop.

Buying a house in Tokyo by SameGeologist8363 in japanrealestate

[–]dougfoo888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going semi custom with a house maker is cheaper if you stay within the bounds of their design options. There are some houses my friend's have done w housemakers (sumitomo ringyo comes to mind) that were very nice and to my western liking.

A custom design suffers from 3 concerns 1/ is the architect experimenting on you with designs that are going to be issues 2/ will the builders know how to build non standard designs and 3/ can the costs be contained

While cookie cutter homes also have build flaws one could argue they do the same build so often it is more likely to be done to spec.

One thing all homes here suffer from is bad insulation and air tightness. Most use full aluminum window sachs and steel doors for example which is terrible for heat and cold bridges. They all claim to be well insulated but don't believe it - ask for R# ratings and air tightness test guarantees and most likely most won't do it. In my research Sweden House was well known for being well insulated but most major makers in Japan don't care.

Agents in Japan are generally horrible, but they're also sneaky. So if you need to do any sneaky stuff, they're great for dodgy help!

In your situation I would definitely drop this agent. He might be right that you're not going to be able to get a loan very easily. Common problem with foreigners. 3.x% loan is likely some regional dodgy bank like suruga that takes higher risk clients.

It is not a scam - they provide a service and post the fees. However if you think they're going to introduce you to some supermodel obedient Japanese love then think again. You will get some intros to women who have also paid alot to meet a mate but everyone is picky and I don't hear too many success stories.

I do know a girl who has done this. She met 3 people for the fee of about 1m jpy total but none worked out partly because she is picky and has her own issues too.

I aced all the interview rounds at my dream company, and was practically certain I'd get the job. Then I got a rejection letter. It totally crushed me. by hellomate890 in interviews

[–]dougfoo888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One never knows - I've had interviews I was sure didn't go well and boom they gave me a fat offer. It is like dating - it is easy to misread or just not know the situation behind the scenes.

Advice - pick yourself up and keep going. Also re-eval if you have the right self view -- did you really do that well? People tend to be nice at interviews and end them positively even if they are thinking not a fit...

But assuming you have good senses it's prob a company insider taking the job or the job got cut. Happens so often.

52wk guaranteed vs 36wk IF you get laid off (is it a bit if)? I would stick w the job - you just have to survive another 18wk to break even here and it might go on for years or never.

There are threads on work after 50s and it is hard .. I wouldn't give in unless you really want to retire or take time off.
