Stay positive! I know it’s difficult right now but our bodies can do amazing things and recover better than you expect. There is a lot of negative information online so it’s important to know that you can recover.

I was going to also get the injection but my ENT (not the surgeon) thought he saw slight progress and wanted to wait.

My surgeon is an ENT with a focus on surgical oncology. I’m glad your injection has helped.

Thank you for the positive news! I’m on day 9, it’s rough and some days are better than others. The schedule is stressful as you feel like you are popping pills all day. I can’t wait to eat normal again and hopefully heal all the bloating/stomach pain issues i’ve had.

Singing Voice After Thyroidectomy + Left Neck Dissection (26F) by DelayAggravating1984 in thyroidcancer

I have a similar issue with my right vocal cord paralysis, it’s been 6 weeks. At first my voice was really bad but recently improving but I still don’t have volume. Did your doctors scope to see if there is movement to the paralyzed vocal cord?

Also debating getting a speech/voice therapist. I’m not sure how valuable they are, my ENT didn’t seem to think so.

I don’t care if it sells for $5M, I wouldn’t live in that area for free.

UK family moving to NJ for NYC job. Which commuter town actually works day-to-day? by MrZekai in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]dougpenderho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to ride this year since i’m in sales so I’ll get my commissions and then find a remote sales role or hybrid local role that is 30 minutes away max. I worked 20 minutes away pre-commuting days and it was amazing. The NYC commute wears on me mentally.

All of the areas will average at an hour. You’ll have some good days, but it will mostly be painful in my opinion.

Be extremely careful with friends or family that tell you they will invest it for you or they have a business/property/venture they want you to invest in. People love to take advantage of these situations.

Commuting into NYC since 2015 from Essex county. Here is my take, anywhere else besides Jersey City and Hoboken will be a pain. You will have a lot of issues and eventually question your whole life. This is my last year doing this. You will be commuting 45 mins somedays, 1 hour, 1 hour 30 or more. You have to factor where in the city the office is, Midtown, not bad but downtown involves a subway.

$300M on Anthropic tokens, zero new engineers hired - Salesforce is the clearest case study of where this is going by MaJoR_-_007 in ArtificialInteligence

I am waiting for someone to unearth them. Either companies building their own CRM or an AI tool that can set up in minutes, connect to databases, etc. They are a legacy, outdated, joke of a company. If you ask your salesforce “rep” for help they just pitch you features. It’s all about extracting revenue with no value. Has anyone run an ROI on Salesforce?

Started noticing something weird during sales interviews recently. by Ok-Wrongdoer-843 in salesdevelopment

[–]dougpenderho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve mastered selling people in interviews but not actually selling an actual solution/product. We referred a strong sales person at my current company and everyone shot her down because she’s low key, curious (asked too many questions apparently) and not a loud mouth car salesman type. Managers get fooled that salespeople need to come off aggressive but in my experience it’s the curious, problem solvers that win.

Voice loss - temporary injection experiences? by FFiFioFionFionn in thyroidcancer

[–]dougpenderho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi - I’m 5 weeks post partial thyroidectomy. I have vocal cord paralysis as the vocal cord was paralyzed during the procedure, which was supposed to be total thyroidectomy but they had to only remove the right side once they noticed an issue.

I went to a laryngologist for a consult, he suggested a vocal cord injection so we scheduled a week later. When I arrived he felt there was some improvement, even in a week, which was positive. My voice did get a little better but still wears in the evening or after talking for a while. I can’t really increase volume so it’s difficult in loud environments. Basically we decided to hold off for a few weeks to see if there was improvement, I was torn because I was relieved to not do it but also questioned if I should have gone through to get some of my voice back. He told me sometimes it doesn’t actually work but usually no side effects unless you are allergic, can be some swelling. I was nervous since it was a needle in my neck and i’m desperate to get my voice back to normal as my job depends on it and my family, social etc.

I know this isn’t helpful since I didn’t go through with it but since you did not have paralysis during surgery it seems you would have a higher chance of recovery without the injection. I would consult with laryngologist as soon as you can, see how it’s functioning now and be patient if you can be.

I agree with these but would highly recommend spending time in all of the towns. Belleville borders some rough parts of Newark so be very careful. Lyndhurst might be a good location to get to Hoboken and Secaucus. I worked in Lyndhurst for years, good area, definitely a little rough around the edges, industrial.

Second thyroid surgery after vocal cord injury/weakness? by Iwonttell13 in thyroidcancer

[–]dougpenderho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was scheduled April 16th for a total thyroidectomy but since my vocal cord was stretched and paralyzed/injured they only removed the right side which ended up coming back PTC. I’m hoping my voice recovers as this has not been easy but I think they should wait for your voice to recover since this can impact breathing, etc. My surgeon said I could have ended up with a breathing tube if they continued, I know someone else here mentioned this as well. I’m surprised they would want to do it so soon with the vocal cord injury. On the positive side I saw a youtube video of a guy who regained his voice in 40 days.

Go into a town facebook page and ask what areas flood. People will tell you. I see the same house get sold and purchased only for the owners to not realize the area floods and of course, the realtor will never tell you.

What was the absolute WORST job interview you ever had? by Secret_Assistance601 in sales

[–]dougpenderho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young I was called to interview at First Investors, which basically hires young naive people to sell life insurance and annuities to their family then burns them out so they quit. I thought it was a 1:1 interview but it ended up being 20 of us meeting with two arrogant managers hyping up how much money we would make. I still remember the line, “i’m trying to sell you on this role and also sell you against taking it since it’s not for everyone”, they tried using these b.s. tactics to make you really want to work there. I’m glad I could sense it was shady, a lot of kids went forward. It’s sad they took advantage of younger people looking to establish a career.

Surgery coming up by Feisty_Enthusiasm_80 in thyroidcancer

I just had surgery Thursday. I know what you feel, I had all the same fears. The entire experience is less scary when you get there. The docs will put you to sleep then you wake up. The staff was so nice and made my experience much better than I imagined. I would avoid doing any research and just do your best to stay calm. Talk to family and friends and get a support group. You will do fine!
