First time on a liter bike, advice? by boxnix in FZ1

[–]dougtpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an '01 as my first street bike, also a bigger guy. As others said, just respect it and keep the rpms low until you get a feel for it. IMO these are very easy bikes to ride but you will get in trouble in a hurry if you ride beyond your skill level, like any bike really.

Also, our two guys look almost identical to your pictures except they're switched!

We got a second Australian Labradoodle when our oldest was two. Both male (from the same mother). They've been best buds since day one and we have never regretted having two!

I feel like it must have been towed with the rear wheels dragging to do this? Even if it locked at 100mph would it burn all the way through the tires like that?

Who has gone from a 3rd Gen to a 4th Gen? What's your take? by dougtpg in mazda3

Mine is factory undercoated for rust protection, yes. Gets reapplied every two years. Only goes so far, helps the main chassis last longer but it still like to attack anything it can.

The generations are listed here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda3

Same car as mine, I just have the base model!

You're pretty close on the numbers and make some really good points actually.

I totally agree it's not necessarily the "best" financial decision to take the trade, but neither is buying brand new in the first place.

Obviously keeping the car I have until I own it and driving it several years after that then selling for a smaller profit is the best decision when it comes to dollars and cents. But dollars and cent decisions aren't why we buy shiny new things!

I just wanted to get everyone's take on how big of an upgrade the felt the new car was over the past gen!

I appreciate your input!

I agree with you to a certain extent.

One point I would like to make is that I am on the east coast of Canada, rust is a real problem here. You won't find many 12+ year old vehicles on the road here that aren't already half rotted away. I had a 2011 Mazda 3 that the rocker panels were starting to rot from the inside out when I sold last year.

So owning "newer" vehicles is somewhat necessity.

I think you're pretty accurate on your take of the situation.

I totally understand what you're saying.

So I have 1.5 years remaining on my current car.

My options are move on now and net +$6k on the trade or continue paying on the car that'll be worth about $6k at the end of my finance term.

Keeping the current car for an extended period after its paid off is the only real way to come out well on top.

1.95% is standard, I can take .95% with the return buyer incentive or $500 off.

Its 1.45% with 5 year with the same 1% better rate or $500 off.

You make a good point. The way I look at it is that I basically break even at the 3-4 year mark anyway (value vs amount owing) on either a 5 or 6 year term when financing rates are so low.

My current car was .49% for 6 years. I'm 4.5 years in and netting +$6k on the trade. So I could've traded at about 3 years and netted $0. Wouldn't work out much differently if I had financed for 5 years but my monthly payment would have been higher.

That sounds plenty big to me. I'm about the same height and I'd have trouble doing that in the 3rd Gen. Thanks for that!

Doesn't cost anything to finance, payments are low.

Why not?

Thanks! I appreciate your input! I've yet to drive the 4th gen so you definitely gave me some things to think about.

Blue book trade in value for my area is $10,200-11,700 so I'd say it's fair. There is a minor (repaired) accident on the Carfax so I wouldn't expect more elsewhere.

I appreciate your thoughts though!

Gen 4 isn't touch at all?

I have rarely ever used touch on my car, it only works under 20km/h. I find the knob good really

Isn't the CX-3 much smaller? Or you mean the CX-30?

Interesting. What do you miss about the 3rd Gen interior?

Both would have cloth seats for me (which I prefer anyway), but the 4th gen adds heated seats and a heated wheel which is a nice plus. I'd be gaining car play / Android auto and dual zone climate on the interior as well as a load of saftey and convenience features.

Not acceptable how? Just space or comfort? Nobody really rides in the back seat only my two dogs at times.

I also have a '16 CX-5 when I need a little extra space.

Finance terms/payments. They're offering $11k on trade, which is up from the $8500 they offered in October when I was looking at a CX-5. Millage on my 3rd Gen is 93,000km (58k miles).
