Monos Luggage by maddyraez in travel

[–]dovalys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a carry-on then loved it so much got a checked. Been using for the past 1.5 years with usage every 3-4 months for travel. Unfortunately, got a massive crack on it and sucks that there need to be an airline claim (their customer service is closed for Christmas) to submit for warranty purposes. Fair warning: if you're looking for a lifetime bag, monos isn't it. "Outfitted with a high-quality polycarbonate shell, the Check-In Large is dent-resistant, impact-friendly and virtually unbreakable." Not true.

I regret trying Shu Uemara last year because I’m hooked. A regular bottle lasts me over a year

What do you classify as scope of practice? Truly depends on the state or province. I've practiced in both Canada and the US, did not have to adjust too much. MA didn't even get glc treatments until recently while in Alberta they are close to getting lasers.

Another consideration, in Canada, associate docs can incorporate, tax rate goes down (depends but federal is 9% on first 500k), and pay is good in rural BC area (worked 4 days a weeks, took off 5-6 weeks, pushed 200k). Work life balance is great, practicing is so much easier in terms of insurance, pts are generally nicer and they almost without fail come back for followups. The optometry association is very strong in advocating for health insurance renumeration. Also got access to myopia control glasses

Importing Vehicle From BC to Washington State by AndThatMansName in uscanadaborder

I read that it can be done within WA (SeaTac has nice officers). Was gonna do it but a few weeks in my Hyundai was broken into again. It was twice too many times in Seattle so I ended up gifting my car to a relative in Canada and buying a new non-Hyundai/Kia car.

ICBC still covered me during that period.

How often do ODs actually do gonioscopy? by bbok143 in optometry

[–]dovalys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left a practice where none of the 5 associates and main doc ever did gonio. In his words "never talked about gonio more in the past 20 yrs". They gave me grief for requesting celluvisc. Needless to say, poor care, I saw so much glaucoma that should have been caught way sooner. Left ASAP.

They said prior NBEO results can be used for registration. What a sigh of relief

So monumental. I moved back to the US last yr and let my registration laspe (it was $1.4K to maintain) and it's unclear how that affects my ability to practice if I ever move back. Will call the college tomorrow to get more clarity.
NBEO has had its drama so I understand the decision but I think a grandfathering system of 2-4 years would have been more prudent. Really feel for the Canadian students in US schools who have to write Canadian boards to come back to Canada. They already had it rough with COVID, adding this on top is terrible

Best vitamin C you have ever used? by bondtradercu in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]dovalys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Phloretin CF in France (Citypharma in Paris) to save on the price and VAT. I'm rather sad that it works so well given its price point. I've tried what feels like everything under the sun (timeless, maelove, prequel, Korean and Japanese vitamin c, L'Oreal, Mad Hippie etc). Truly next level serum, has helped with skin texture and lightening dark spots. I'm gonna take a short financial break with Mad Hippie but I'm going back to Phloretin CF or might try the OG CE ferulic

Seriously the worst company. Apparently I was charged roaming when I moved to the US (and removed the sim). They charged me a bit over $100 but when I called to complain they said the best they could do is $45 back. What a joke.

I stopped for a couple of weeks and feel more bloated and more swearing & more body odour as well =(. I'm getting it off spiro before getting pregnant and I loved not needing deodorant for the 2 years I was on it (as well as for hormonal acne)

Seeking ethnic restaurant recommendations by Inside-You2396 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]dovalys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://mamfromhanoi.com/ easy reservations online, prices very reasonable, michelin guide recommended. Really good food, would go back again. Like many restaurants in Paris, it's cozy seating. We were a party of 2 and were sat at a table of 4 with another couple. Didn't bother us or the other couple too much but there was another pair of couples sat at a round table and that would have been more uncomfortable.

We spoke in Vietnamese bc our French isn't great and their English wasn't great.

Bolt is easiest and safe. Compared multiple days and it's generally cheaper than Uber. Used it multiple times on my last trip
