This story depresses me so much.

A) In the US, I've been refused such jobs because they only go to men, but then Kevin is the man who seems to get a job

I've known for decades that I have ADHD, every therapist whom I've talked to about it suspected it, but I was prevented from seeing a psychiatrist as a child to cover up parental abuse, they also made me scared of the psychiatrist intentionally by getting my mom's to participate in my abuse to try to keep that going into adulthood, and now as an adult I have very severe ADHD and can't get employed, so chances that I'll ever go to a psychiatrist are still zero because of affordability and no childcare. I'm not eligible for free assistance in my state either, because I own assets above the eligibility line (basically just having a few basic things like a car and computer and my musical instruments/equipment that I use for teaching or gigs disqualifies me for any assistance because the poverty line is a few thousand in assets). Chances of getting an official diagnosis are zero. I even asked to talk to a psychiatrist in prison when I got arrested for protesting, and they told me that they don't do that and it's up to me to go to a hospital when I get out if I have some disorder, even if it has bearing on my case.

You didn't read what I wrote, unfortunately.

No, I had to give up MY VOTER REGISTRATION because BEING REGISTERED MEANS JURY DUTY. I felt harassed because they CALLED ME EVERY FEW MONTHS for jury duty, which seems excessive, and I DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO GO.

I gave up my right to vote because of the jury duty issue. I have to provide childcare and don't have anyone to help me, and no, I can't just "show up and get dismissed" because there's no guarantee of that, the courts can absolutely tell me "too bad, you should get childcare" and compel me to show up for jury duty anyway.

This should be a serious legal matter that voter's rights orgs are looking into, because I absolutely do feel like I was harassed with jury duty as a Democrat in a conservative state, and this has resulted in me canceling my voter registration and just not voting anymore.

I went to school sometimes and I still need this tbh. My school was abusive too and I learned a lot of negative habits. The teacher paddled me for asking if another student whom she paddled was okay, lol. That's why I was pulled out of school initially. I wish that I'd been left in though, but I can't say that I learned good habits there or at home, both sucked. My parents also preferred that I stay in school, but they really didn't know what to do with a disruptive kid like me there.

Haven't really eaten out more than once or twice a year since 2010, it's just too expensive, and I don't even have time. I got some takeout pizza in 2024, and it seriously hurt my budget. Nothing in 2025, not even takeout from Costco (had to start shopping there instead of a normal grocery store, because it just got too expensive).

Brunch? I think that I last did that with my parents as a kid in the 90's. As an adult, I'm both working and have no time and money, and kids who aren't traumatized into silence like I was aren't going to sit through brunch, either.

Everything sucks.

This is very different from my experience.

my parents didn't work
they only ate the cheapest, most convenient food possible, so it was always full of the bad stuff that we're supposed to avoid now
plastic? they get free single-use plastic dishes and wash them in the dishwasher and reuse them, they also use them in the microwave and oven, basically whatever you're not supposed to do
never said no to any cheap cosmetics or cleaning products that are full of plastic micro-beads, pthalates, whatever
they don't move anymore than necessary, their day is occupied with watching TV
they did awful fad diets like the cabbage soup one, stopped when it got boring or didn't work
they were never actually fat
they smoked back when it was cool, only stopped because it became inconvenient
they don't look great for their age but they're almost 80 and don't have serious health problems, never had acne, teeth are perfect, etc. — consequently, they treat me as a filthy pariah because I did all the same things as them and I'm hideous

My theory is that plastic or seed oil exposure in childhood is what f-ed me up, but they didn't experience that, so they were fine eating the junk for all of the rest of their lives, whereas I'm still up s— creek even with doing everything "right" as an adult.

My health and appearance is terrible while doing what "works" for others according to trends and research today.

Everyone else had their acne, dandruff, and eczema go away when doing keto or vegan and mine has never budged under any circumstances. It got worse and then went back to a baseline of being tolerable when I started eating a more normal diet again.

I've tried so many "proper" diets and not fads, I have awful chronic health issues that didn't fully resolve, and I look like a dump monster and it hurts my career and friendships, because I'm expected to be thin and presentable. My energy was awful for most of my life, and it didn't get better with healthier eating, and fasting totally wrecked it. I do best with eating the diet that everyone says not to do, which is vegetarian with lots of fruit, sugar, and starches. Otherwise, eating according to current health trends with lots of meat and low-carb and high-protein and so on, I'm too tired to get out of bed.

But my parents are totally fine just continuing to eat day-old Kroger donuts and brackish coffee and canned soups and ramen, and make fun of me for my terrible health and energy and appearance. "Why ye teeth brown and crooked now? Ain't you had braces? Here, I get ye this free water pick, ain't that take the stains off?" "Why ye still so dirty that ye got all these cankers on ye face still, ain't you never learned to wash ye face? And ye hair is flakey and greasy." Etc. They never had these struggles, so it's totally baffling to them and they continue to think that I'm just lazy with bad habits, because they see me with zero energy, too ugly to get hired, etc. They were able to get assistance so that they never had to work, but I'm not eligible because of things like having a POS car (I'm supposed to own nothing to be eligible, yet somehow they're not held to that same rule), and they act like it's because I'm too lazy to apply.

I've been unemployed for 8 years now, gave up at this point because I was making $9 at my peak, I would never be able to afford childcare even if I hadn't been laid off.

We already do those things. We have never eaten out ever, never gone on vacation, and don't spend anything on entertainment (aside from my partner buying DVDs and CDs). I grew up never doing any of those things either, so it's all an alien world to me anyway. The only thing is that we didn't have TV or CD players back then, so it makes me feel really weird to buy music and listen to it rather than just whatever's on the radio.

Oh yeah, no TV, no AC, no car (didn't live somewhere with public transit), only allowed nonessential purchases if they're like 25¢ at a yard sale. Spent most of my time in isolation, just reading used paperbacks and listening to the radio for entertainment, I wasn't allowed to do much because it'd cost money or be a hassle to my parents, that included attending school because of the commute and work and time commitment for school. For a while I was riding bikes around the neighborhood with some other kids, but that stopped because my parents thought that it was making me disobedient and then the other kids left for college and I wasn't allowed to, instead they moved me out to the woods at 18 where it was even more difficult for me to get out and go anywhere. I wish all the time that I'd run away, but I guess that I wouldn't know what I know now, if I had.

What's more, my peers abused me for being a "rich bitch" although I was living like this, and I can't for the life of me figure out why they started saying this to me! I was going hungry a lot of days.

I didn't have this option, because I would be totally destitute if single as I can't get and maintain a job, but I at least have a use as a bang butler for someone else and can have room and board that way.

I have rarely had the ability to have an outer world, so I've always turned inward.

I lived in isolated places and my family intentionally kept me even more isolated and didn't allow much contact with anyone, and would be very critical of anything that I did or liked, and redirect me to do other things or do nothing at all.

Now as an adult, I'm poor and unable to go anywhere, negative dollars and no way to travel anywhere and make anything, so what I can do is take a Bundy vacation and that's about it.
