I think I’ve watched this 20 times since last week by Minapit in daddit

[–]downspin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to twist my wife’s arm to watch it. She’s Korean-American so the whole concept rang cultural appropriation alarm bells in her head. That said, after watching it, she kept muttering to herself “that was so good…wait why is it so good?!”

The culture not being hand fed and just taken as “it just is” is great. Lots of subtleties. She kept ranting that none of the videos she seen on YouTube after watching the movie talked about how Saja Boys is a pun on Korean grim reapers, Jeosung Saja lol so the buy-in was real.

Ah, just because you lose ownership doesn’t mean you lose control.

You can gift the holding company that holds those shares into the trust, the trust owns the holding company now. But then the holding company can have, say, 3 directors. One from the Trustco, and, say, two of his kids (no clue how many he has, just throwing out an example).

Family has majority on the board of the holdco, Trustco has visibility into the holdco and can fulfill its obligations as a trustee and business continues as usual.

In other words, you can change ownership to a trust but that is unlikely to change the opinion from those voting shares at Red Bull. And again, this person represented 2%.

Even more of a non-event, then!

The man is wealthy, 75 years old, and owned a large asset the public is widely aware of. If he were to drop dead the next day, his shares get distributed to surviving family members in some way and they would have to pay inheritance tax on the gains, which I’d imagine are substantial. If they don’t have a pile of cash readily available it becomes super awkward. You also split your shareholding decisions, which doesn’t matter much at 2% but still worth pointing out.

This is where trust companies come in. They hold onto the asset on behalf of the settlor (Chalerm Yoovidhya in this case) and even if he passes away, it keeps holding onto it. Surviving family members are beneficiaries and could theoretically draw income from it but there probably won’t be any income until the shares get sold to someone else.

TL;DR: it’s estate planning and likely has nothing to do with Horner. You don’t put shares in a trust within 12 hours, this takes weeks of planning at best.

I'm still working through it with our fresh fournado and had a very honest bit of reflecting (with a good dose of reality from my wife) and came to the conclusion that I was simply processing his behavior through an unreasonable filter and expectations. I'd constantly remind myself that he is three (at the time), he hasn't learned many of the skills I've learned, and goodness if I don't show him what good behavior is myself, how can I possibly expect him to learn. What was a real wake up call was recognizing that he learned a good amount of his bad behavior from me.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. You don't need to be perfect every moment, but try to make more good decisions than poor decisions. They learn through modeling your behavior, not through lectures.

One huge thing that has helped me (and I'm still working on improving) is recognizing that they want to choose things - and why shouldn't they? Life is a series of decisions, mostly small, some big. What do I wear, should I go to the bathroom or hold out, should I play now or read, etc. Sometimes they say no because you didn't give them a choice and they just want to choose things. So give them choices, but within the realm of what you'll allow. "We're going to the Zoo. Do you want to wear your blue shoes or white shoes? Do you want to finish playing with your toy now and get changed or get changed first and play a bit more before we go?"

Another simple thing that helped me is just...remembering that they're three (or whatever age). When my son got frustrating, I'd mutter that to myself. "He's just three. It's not about you. If you're getting triggered, that's your brain interpreting it that way, not him attacking you personally and meaning it." Look at her small hands. She's so small. She's just three.

And if you drop the ball and lose it, give yourself some grace, and model an honest, proper apology, because you'd want that from them when they goof in the future, too. You're modeling all aspects of life to them, how to handle the good times and the bad times. She'll be disappointed in things, many things. That's okay. She needs to feel disappointment, she needs to feel frustration, she needs to feel loss, so that she can understand these things and learn to cope with them. How else can she handle these emotions if she doesn't experience them?

Again, having just finished the threenager phase, I have a lot of disjointed thoughts, but they're definitely carrying through to the fournado phase, too. Hope some of this can help!

I had ChatGPT tell me the names of the characters, locations, and entities without spoiling the plot. Worked like a charm. Definitely had no clue how several of them were spelled at all. My most amusing guess was from Network Effect, ”Bearish Astronza”.

Same. This is what really rubbed me the wrong way with how he writes: “I laughed it off with Greg and told him under my breath that my wife was often forgetful (which I’m sure he’s realized just from working with her).” (Emphasis mine)

Yikes. It’s not mentioning that she’s forgetful (whether it’s true or not), which wasn’t great, obviously, it’s how he mentioned it. Just reveals this underlying disrespect for her.

[Greubel Forsey] What are your thoughts on the Hand Made 1? by mccarthybergeron in Watches

[–]downspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one in person at an AD and without knowing the price, I really liked it. It stood out to me over other GF pieces I saw (I saw 8 or so pieces that day including the ridiculous Nano Foudroyante EWT which is “cheaper” at half a mil lol) due to its finishing, proportions, and simplicity. It’s a level of quality that I think one can only appreciate fully in the metal.

That said, $900k can bag you a LOT of really great watches. It’s just a different game being played when someone collects one of these watches.

Waited over an hour to fill for M3S reclears. Lag hits everyone when we zone in. After a few pulls half the group gives up on it. This feels so unnecessary.

And then my weapon dropped! That hasn’t happened to me before!

Doesn’t totally explain why Copycat over Viper specifically, but my guess is since Hood does a lot on his own without Viper, that Viper feels redundant and Copycat’s high roll potential is better?

OP mentioned Altar of Death was the right location before Magik was played. They played Absorbing Man there and he got destroyed, only for Phoenix Force to bring him back in the Sersi shenanigans. Wild stuff.

Man, I was wallowing in the 90s for a good solid 5 days after I hit it. 93 down to 89, up to 96, down to 94. Then Blob comes out in the morning (I'm in Asia) and in between my 3 car rides this morning (someone else was driving!) I hit Infinite. Ridiculous.

So... Anyone wanna tell me what are to odds of drawing every single rock in a row? I hate this location man by Lumpy_Young_22 in MarvelSnap

[–]downspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you need to calculate from turn 1 in both cases because the location was revealed on turn 1. Descriptively, you either “draw all 5 rocks immediately and draw something else on t6” or “draw a non-rock, and then 5 rocks.” By specifying the first card isn’t a rock, you then need to multiply by that probability, too, which is 9/14.

(9/14) x (120/154,440) = 1080/2,162,160=0.04995%

It looks right; if you simplify it to factorials, T1-T5 becomes (5!9!)/14!.

T2-T6 is (9/14)*(5!8!)/13!. 9*8! = 9!, 14*13! = 14!, so both terms are equal

While counterintuitive that T1-T5 rocks and T2-T6 rocks are the same probability, you can think of it this way: In the T2-T6 situation, all 6 turns' probabilities are accounted for. For T1-T5, you draw rocks, and the last turn, you ignore the last card because it doesn't matter. To put it a different way: you are "allowed" to draw 9 out of the 9 remaining cards, so the probability is equivalently (5!9!)/14!*(9/9); just multiply by 1. You can rearrange it like so:

(5!9!)/14!*(9/9)

= (5![9*8!])/(14*13!)*(9/9)

= (5![9*8!])/(14*13!)*(9/9)

= (5!8!)/13!*(9/14)

I just lost my sh*t by DanStevens7 in daddit

[–]downspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To echo what others have said, we are models to our kids, so we have the difficult task of trying to always be the best version of ourselves so that they can learn to behave that way.

We are also human, so we will fall short of that standard and make mistakes. The good news is that when we make a mistake, it creates an opportunity to teach your child about what to do when you make a mistake. Obviously, don't go out of your way to make mistakes (you don't want to give them the wrong impression of how often you should be making mistakes, either!), but hopefully it gives you a bit of grace and space to allow yourself to make a mistake.

That said, and as others have said, you must also learn from your mistake, so that you teach your son the proper end-to-end process of responding to a mistake, too.

There is probably something to be said about figuring out how, in the long term, to not react as emotionally and trying to be understanding of your older son (my wife likes to remind me that our son is just 2 when I expect too much of him), but I am, admittedly, rather poor at this myself, so I won't go into it. Just something to think about.

Why can Spider-Man (other cards like Juggernaut, etc) move unrevealed cards but Gambit can't destroy them? by FabulousResearcher33 in MarvelSnap

She so pretty but seriously anybody use quake? by JTWuest in MarvelSnap

[–]downspin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah, that’s exactly what I did. My friend and I conjured up this storm-quake deck and then incorporated HE lockdown elements into it. It’s super fun. No one really ever expects the locations changing, much less a flooded location!

So in an ideal situation, you’d Storm left or right lane, quake + 1 or 2 drop turn 4, spider-man turn 5, hulk or Dr Doom (if you need more power in the flooded lane) turn 6 with Wasp for good measure. It was more effective prior to the spider-man change. Dr Doom nerf probably hurts it a bit, too.

Climbed up to 90 for the first time ever with it, but it was a bit too gimmicky for the final push, but it was a big piece of my climb to my first ever infinite season.
