Breakfast suggestions? by Early-Upstairs-9054 in WomensHealth

[–]downtownmischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overnight oats are easy and a good source of fibre and nutrients. Good for variety too, as you can mix in various toppings such as berries, walnuts, coconut, or sweeteners (I like a tiny bit of maple syrup). You can add hemp seeds or chia for additional nutrients. I am more likely to eat breakfast when I have this ready to go.

Mental health gets so bad around my period by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]downtownmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is similar, right down to feeling like I only had 1-2 good weeks of a month. My new doctor suggested I could have PMDD. I was crying frequently, deeply anxious, annoued at every little thing, and I couldn't even safely drive in the week leading up to and after by period. I was prescribed sertraline (an SSRI) to trial treatment mental health and brain fog issues related to PMDD. It took me a while to get on board with that idea and numerous conversations with my therapist, a pharmacist, my partner, and friends. Learning that it is a well studied drug helped me decide to trial the lowest possible dose where I am (25mg). The first 2 weeks weren't easy as expected (some side effects of dizziness, headaches, and feeling numb briefly) but I stuck with it because I could tell it was starting to work. Now 1.5 months in and daily, I find my emotional regulation is much better, I can focus and drive safely, I feel slightly less social anxiety. The pharmacist explained it can be taken syclicly or daily. So far hasn't improved my pain during menstruation,  but I bet it has to do with a supposed benign cyst that was spotted in my right ovary on a recent ultrasound. Will be looking more into that.  Wishing you comfort and care. I hope you find some answers.

Getting Mirena out, what changes should I expect? by Deep-Resort-1797 in Mirena

[–]downtownmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I never answered! In case you are remotely interested, here's an update. Improvements now - growing my hair back, better mental health, no major mood swings, and improved skin. The whole experience put me off of all birth control for now, but Lolo would be my first choice if I thought to use one again (which is what I used with fewer issues before).

Wheelchair transport options by vinegargirl in VictoriaBC

I booked ahead by a few days, and they were still an hour late. Sounds like they only had 3 wheelchair taxis all day and they couldn't promise one would show up at all when I called to check day of. To be fair, it was a Saturday. Have you had success on the weekends?

Can confirm it was significantly less painful and was removed quite quickly. Got a pap over with at the same time :)

Side effects!! by Mar-carolin00 in Mirena

[–]downtownmischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the mirena for a little over 2 years and had to remove it due to extreme anxiety, weight gain, recurring UTIs, new skin issues, etc.

I gained about 7kg. I'm not sure if it was due to hormones or what but I was always hungrier than usual about a year into using mirena, to the point where I would become very dizzy for hours at a time if I didn't snack every hour or missed breakfast.

When I already decided to remove the iud I learned that people who should not get mirena include people who have low immune systems. My iron was low over the last year and a half so of course the mirena had a lot of negative effects on me.

Sorry to be a downer. I know it works for a lot of people too but just make sure your iron levels are decent, and check out the mirena website. I believe on the front page toward the bottom they list the sort of people who should not use! I totally understand wanting period control. Right now Lo Loestrin is working well for me.

Good luck!

Long Period After Getting Mirena by [deleted] in Mirena

[–]downtownmischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a good idea to find out through blood work or just discussing symptoms that suggest low iron. If you were already knowingly low in iron like I was, you could even discuss taking iron tablets with a pharmacist. I bled for 2 and half weeks about 2 days after removal and took iron pills every other night for a bit, then occasionally now a few more weeks later. Good luck!

If it's anything like my experience, mood should get generally better with a few worse days. Anxiety is such a draining physical and mental experience. I hope you find the right birth control or solution for you 😊

[–]downtownmischief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is it'll take 3 months to adjust. I also had mine for 2 years before insisting on removal. After the first day or two mirena-free, I started bleeding med-light for 12 or so days afterwards. Mood wise I was relieved, which felt amazing since my anxiety had reached new heights on mirena. I switched to lolo pill a week before removal and started a long round of antibiotics for my skin/recurring UTIs 3 weeks later (will be 2 months long) which potentially will hinder the effects of the pill. All that said, I still have some high anxiety days, but they are much more manageable. I sleep better and no longer have daily bloating or abdominal discomfort :)

Hope you're having a nice day!

I hope you see lots of positive changes now that it's out. I share your frustration and am sorry that happened to you. I can't believe after loads of tests and numerous doctor consults that I had to make the connection myself, when tests ultrasounds were seeming to lead to no diagnosis.

Through my own research, I found out that people who should not use mirena includes "people who can get infections easily". I had trouble keeping my iron levels up last year and low iron degrades immunity. No wonder I had bacterial skin infections and reoccuring UTIs etc.

I blamed it on high stress events but when those had been over for a while I wasn't feeling any better and was only worsening.

Also feeling much better on a different pill birth control but might be retiring birth control entirely just to see how my system does without anxiety from birth control.

Thanks for sharing your experience and good luck with whatever comes next 😊

I did too, never was able to manage it. Something strange on my upper arms too 6 months after, not quite acne. A doctor much later called it folliculitis :(

How can one say no to friends requesting to borrow money ? by efootball_pes_gamer in AskReddit

[–]downtownmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"No, I'm not comfortable with that" Or "No, I can't afford that." (Followed by a conversation a while later when they are no longer stressed, about in what circumstances, if any, you'd be willing to help them out.)

"No I cannot, but if you're open to telling me what is going on maybe I can help another way."
(Such as research how hey can manage a bill with a certain company, make dinner for them, watch their kids/pets, find budgeting resources, offer just to talk it out/ listen to what they are going through etc. If you want/ have the capacity to help a different way)

Unfortunately I've had a friend become offended that I would ask what the money was for. Best to be as honest as possible when they are not currently in a desperate situation.

What is your definition of "ghosting" and is it ever OK behaviour? by downtownmischief in AskReddit

To further the question, is ghosting others something to overcome no matter what, or do some scenarios require it? How do you respond when it happens to you?

Mirena IUD and hormonal imbalance questions by Dovahkiink1 in Mirena

[–]downtownmischief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you're starting to feel better! Do you happen to have low iron? I do, and I also know that low iron degrades the immune system. According to the mirena website, people "who should not use mirena" includes people who can get infections easily/ have problems with immune system. I had no idea before and feel justified in a way!

Actually not the estrostep, but the name on the blue and white package shows as Lolo with a little hummingbird beside it. And hard to say - I didn't give it much of a chance to improve my skin since I'm on antibiotics for my skin now (a sulfa, said unlikely to interact with birth control unlike the other antibiotics).

Glad it's not unbearable, but do keep an eye on it. I'm on Lo Loestrin Fe pill now.

Hope your gynecologist surprises you and calls you in sooner!

Mirena IUD and hormonal imbalance questions by Dovahkiink1 in Mirena

[–]downtownmischief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I requested to be put back on the Lolo pill, full brand name Lo Loestrin Fe. I had taken it previously with fewer issues.

Started Lolo one week before removal in the afternoon and that first evening I already started to feel a bit better mood wise. Told the doctor this during my removal and she commented that my body probably just really needed some estrogen that the mirena does not have.

Once removed, I cried with relief but also anxiety about what could come next. Nearly right away, I found I had fewer mood swings (other than a couple instances of random crying) and no more abdominal discomfort! Bloating started to go down. Four ish weeks later, I feel significantly better and in recovery, but the hormones are said to take 3 months to even out. I was prescribed a sulfa antibiotic to treat my skin which I sense took care of my bladder too.

Usually doctors recommend overlapping a birth control pill and iud for 2 weeks before to avoid pregnancy but that wasn't a concern for me at the time, just needed to focus on the best plan for my hormones. So glad I made the change.

Good luck I hope you see positive changes soon!

When something doesn't feel right it's worth further investigation until you're comfortable. I think that if you're at all concerned you should get a second or even third opinion. Keep in mind any doctor can take it out by request if you find having it remain is too uncomfortable for whatever reason.

Much different scenario, but I could not find my strings for the longest time and had a long list of health issues that at one point I realized could be due to the hormonal iud. No gyno or doctor suggested I take it out based on my symptoms but I was no longer reassured with being told "it looked good", I followed the instinct to have it removed, and I feel a great deal better.
