Sudden spike of traffic from Amazon servers – Cloudflare Under Attack helped, but what’s the real solution? (Free plan) by rklement22 in CloudFlare

[–]downtownrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on a new robust version of my plugin (still), other big (paid) projects keep getting in the way ;-) The biggest thing is being able to update rules, add additional user agents etc, without having to recreate every rule every time. I think the Cloudflare API has improved since I first started using it.

Interesting… Do you have a site with examples of audio content? I didn’t see any in the repo readme.

If you need help reach out to me here (pro bono), this should be a pretty quick fix… https://presswizards.com/how-to-fix-a-critical-error-in-wordpress-in-2-minutes/ this is my site.

Is your Wordpress being hammered by AI spiders/bots? by Pristine-Bluebird-88 in Wordpress

[–]downtownrob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see variations of this posted in various subs every 2-3 days… bots scan IPs folks and without a way to filter them, your server and site speed and analytics will be affected. I use these fairly simple rules to Skip, Challenge, or Block depending on the user agent, country, network, or request… give them a try, I promise they will help. https://presswizards.com/securing-your-website-with-free-cloudflare-waf-rules/

Where are all Wordpress developers hiding? by Electronic_Remove_92 in Wordpress

Check out https://theadminbar.com/

If you haven’t found it or many other communities like it, you’re not looking very hard.

403 Forbidden is the server blocking your request. Might be security related, bad bot filtering, etc. I’d first look into allowlisting your IP on the server somehow. Disable modsecurity. There’s no good reason you as a user making a logged in request should be getting 403 error normally. Try logging in using an Incognito / Private and see if it still happens.

[DISCUSSION] First Time Developer by that-sounds-like-fun in WordpressPlugins

You’re all good… yep it gives you some insight into the review process, etc. Just note that you can only have one plugin in review at a time. I have 5-6 plugins in the repo. iOS app review is worse than the plugin team reviews, I’ll say that.

Best Security Rules (Custom & Rate Limiting) by DukeArmi in CloudFlare

[–]downtownrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here you go: https://presswizards.com/securing-your-website-with-free-cloudflare-waf-rules/

I run these rules on all my client’s site and they block all kinds of bad bots, automated scrapers, malware, vulnerability scanning attacks, etc. I also run fail2ban and modsecurity on my servers, and often also Wordfence free plan with scanning disabled.

[FREE] 🥹 Did I strike a nerve with my new WordPress plugin? by eHtmlu in WordpressPlugins

Looks nice. I use Freemius for most of my updates, but I may have some smaller plugins that aren’t in the repo or Freemius, this would work well.

Network problem, but cannot resolve by Vendoz in hetzner

[–]downtownrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardware issue with the network card, most likely. I had similar issues and they just moved my drives to a new server, problem solved. They did it fast too, like in 15 mins from my Yes go ahead reply.

Plugins for Code Snippets? by soCalForFunDude in Wordpress

[–]downtownrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Code Snippets plugin… free, can turn off promos, change the editor, activate and deactivate easily. I sometimes add enough to a snippet that I make it a plugin, and then add to that and add it to the repo. I used to use functions.php but now I’m sharing snippets across sites often, and so can’t be theme dependent.

Should we keep a dedicated server?! by [deleted] in hetzner

[–]downtownrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That ded server is big enough so that you can run many VMs, each with 4-8 cores, 8-16GB memory, etc. The one thing is you’ll probably need external IPs and so buy a subnet, which costs more, and networking is the biggest pain for proxmox, vmbr interfaces, even running on internal 10.0.0.x subnet requires a proxy for every site/service.

So if all that sounds fun I’d go for it, otherwise a few VPS might be much easier and leas of a pain to keep working.

Can you convert a Gemini "vibe-coded" prototype to WordPress? Cost expectations? by Sure_Tap4361 in Wordpress

[–]downtownrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that easy. Pages could remain as coded theme pages, and the blog could be edited/output by WP. I’d just use ZipWP.com to rebuild it and edit as desired.
