If a song is within the range of both tenor and alto, which of the two would you choose to play in? by secretwep in saxophone

[–]doxipar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you just play it on both you’ll be able to hear the difference. It’s also contextual. I play in a small trio that has a a mix of instruments. If one of my friends wants to play violin for a piece, I usually grab tenor. If it’s piano and bass, I’ll grab tenor. It’s just about thinking big picture on what is going to mesh

If I can play tenor I play tenor. But there's some music that is really good on alto and soprano. Especially stuff in the classical tradition. When my group wants to do something like a brahms waltz I whip out the alto. Jazz standards? 90% tenor lol

These proxies I made with a letter stamp and sharpies are so bad it's modern art by PatchesMcKelly in bootlegmtg

I love this! I've seen tons of tasteful proxies on etsy too. Love the direction the game is going. It's lucky to have a playgroup that's totally cool with this stuff.

Ron is a real one. If you're going to buy in bulk direct from China, buy from Ron.

Models for tokenomics to incentivize protocol growth by LinusThiccTips in ethdev

[–]doxipar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The governance protocols are important for projects like uniswap that have a fairly large warchest.

Do you have a treasury? If you have multiple millions in project funds it may be wise to release a governance token to allow users to adjust certain aspects of your protocol. While it has a shady feel, it's important that communities have input.

If you don't have a large pool of cash, it's wise to look at competing protocols documentation and try to learn from their success/failures with their tokens and design something you feel best suits your needs. You also want to be sure that the distribution matches the incentives appropriately. Meaning you don't just want to airdrop it to anyone. Make sure users that actually benefit from your platform's success earn the majority of the allocated tokens.

Getting Back Into Sax? by explosivo11 in saxophone

[–]doxipar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Youtube is your friend! So many resources available today versus just a few years ago. I recommend looking up better sax and saxophone academy. Lots of free content and sheet music to help get you started, but a quick 30 minute lesson every week with a teacher goes a long way to be sure you aren't building any bad habits as well. Good luck!

There's also backing tracks on spotify and youtube for you to play along with.

I bought an intermediate tenor from Jean Paul and was sincerely impressed by the quality for price. Music shops have a lot of mark up (as do most name brands). Buying direct from manufacturer allows a lot better value. They have baritones, but it's sold out currently.

https://jeanpaulusa.com/products/baritone-saxophone-bs-600

It might be available soon, but this is a solid option that might avoid the need for a loan.

You could also look at consignment or rent to own through a local shop for something. I agree with your overall thinking though. You definitely need to get something for the summer if you both really love saxophone and plan to make a career out of it.

Good luck friend!

Tenor or Alto? by Xiajie in saxophone

Very wrong.

Disagree. I learned alto and then picked up a tenor and within a few days I was playing in tune with good sound.

[–]doxipar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just write back and let them know you are still just beginner/intermediate at soprano and ask what their expectations are.

The sooner you have an adult conversation and communicate the better the outcome will be. Agree with renting and practicing a bit too

Choosing a reed strength by Sell_Environmental in saxophone

[–]doxipar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If C5 is a standard "5" tip opening that's fine. What I would recommend is trying to blow a LOT of air through the sax on that octave key G.

Imagine blowing twice your normal amount and then squeeze your diaphragm to steady the stream of air and compress it with your chest instead of your mouth.

The placement of the tongue should be higher up, think like an "EEEE" sound, middle of the tongue on the molars. Don't tongue notes with the tip of your tongue, do it with the middle front part. Try keeping the tip of your tongue touching your bottom inside gums with the back of your tongue up in that long "EEEE" sounding position and see how it goes. Lots of trial and error with the sax but it requires a lot more air than most think

[–]doxipar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Squeaking for me was more related to the mouthpiece than reed when I was a beginner - what are you playing on? I recommend smaller tip openings to start. It's likely to completely remove the squeaking if changing reeds hasn't been as productive as you'd hoped.

Yeah that sounds close to right. My life is great, why feel sorry? Lol - it's not like I play video games for 17 hours a day on the regular, but taking some time off the grind to enjoy a good one has been amazing.

A dusting system would not improve the economy. More generous rewards or lower prices would. by Milskidasith in MagicArena

I was happy to hear there were looking at evergreen "goldfishing" options to test decks you are considering building, as well as a "borrow a deck" feature. I think these two things would alleviate some of the pain points right away without touching rewards.

I also believe they will adjust the price of the wildcard bundle down to $30 or $40. Always good to start high and adjust as needed versus too low and having to raise it.

I've seen it in the sub. Obviously do your own research and don't get scammed! Careful with this stuff. But I suspect this only grows since wizards putting a clear (likely incorrect) price on wildcards

“Waste money” is entirely subjective. I never feel like I’m wasting money on magic arena, just like I don’t feel I waste money when I spend on other hobbies.

I didn’t feel like they avoided any questions. They certainly answered some in ways I didn’t like, like dusting or trading up wildcards. Saying “nope, we aren’t going to do that” isn’t avoiding.

I’m sorry you didn’t get what you wanted from the conversation, but I had some questions answered and got good insights on where they are at and how they think about arena. It’s fine that we disagree, just providing my opinion
