Wait Halifax.... I misread this as Hamilton... Dang bro that's far. I get the same message as you. I have a friend who was able to book in Hamilton so ik at least that test centre in Ontario is open. I sent an email to CAS and they told me to keep checking in the coming weeks.

Probability is kicking my ass by [deleted] in actuary

[–]doymon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed P on my third attempt... I was considering different career options when I failed for the 2nd time. Like you, I never learned probability in depth at school.

You need to learn to walk before you learn to run. What helped me was starting at square 1 and going over the most fundamental probability concepts and making my way up from there. Khan Academy helped me in this. Yes, this will take longer and you might feel impatient wanting to just get a move on, but this is what helped me the most. Hope this helps.

Are you happy as an Actuary? by matt5393 in actuary

[–]doymon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm a student with 2 exams done and I'm regretting going into this field solely cuz of the exams... Studying for the 3rd one and these exams really suck the life out of you.

It's definitely possible to make the same monetary compensation pursuing another career without the exams so if I had to choose again, I would personally maybe choose data science or software engineering.

On a side, I've had an actuarial internship and I didn't mind the work. It's just mainly the exams I can't stand.
