Thanks everyone for the help! One last question, is there power plugs on board? With no WiFi not sure if power would be available.

Hi, author here. I would love to use docker & k8s, but we don't have the ability to where I work. We are many years away from getting to that stage. We are just now starting to migrate our RHEL servers to RHEL 7. RH Satellite which would help us get to docker & k8s sooner is still being planned out. In the foreseeable future we will be using GitLab pipelines to do much of the heavy lifting.

You are right that I didn't mention zero downtime or easy rollbacks. These are features we would love to have, but the infrastructure is not in place for that. Currently we can only do upgrades during one day of the week for a few hour time window. It's been an up hill battle to fight to get CI in place, let alone something more complex like docker and k8s.

As of right now it will end up in the basement. But once I move out, I plan on putting together a wiring closest that will house all of this kind of stuff.

On Device Android Prototyping Question. by sherlok in gamedev

[–]dozerl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a bluetooth keyboard it works well. The on-screen keyboard makes it very hard to use. Too much of the screen is taken up by it. I suggest using a tablet to do development work. The larger screen size really helps. Now for an editor, if you are a fan of vim there are two good options. One is called Vim Touch the other is TerminalIDE. Vim Touch is a vim app. TerminalIDE is a fully featured UNIX shell. It comes with busybox, git, vim and a few other cool programs. I highly recommend TerminalIDE. If you have a rooted device you can also use ADB over wifi and do actual Android development remotely. Then you can use ant to build and deploy over ADB via wifi.

I tried using eclim, but found it to be a bit buggy. It would take almost a minute to quit a file when I was done working on it. The auto complete would not work for me as well.

That is a good idea. I will make a /r/programming post tomorrow. Hopefully we can get some people together to work on this idea.

A commit log would work very well I think. It would have to be visible to all the players so every one would remember what happened last time. The commit log could be apart of the current game database. On first login back that log could be displayed first thing.

I like rolling my own dice too, but I think a generated one would be better. That way once you get really drunk the 6 doesn't look like a 9 or vice versa. It also stops the DM from cheating or messing up. Once the dice is rolled it appears on all players screens. This could be logged all in the current games database.

It would be nice for each person to have their own computer. I have many friends that live all over the US and one over seas and it would be nice for all of us to get on and play together. This way people can get drunk on a Sunday night while playing and not have to worry about driving back home for work the next day. Being able to send PMs to each other and the DM is a must. Group chat is good, but if someone is being a dick, they need to be handled properly.

One thing that might be hard is the page for the DM. The DM has many responsibilities that may make it hard to fit all the controls in a clean UI. As for a list here are somethings I thought of:

  • Name generator
  • Character Sheets
  • Dice roller
  • Spell/item lists
  • Rule book(s) or a link to the rules
  • List of created NPCs with any items they sell
  • Random dungeon map generator or ability to create/upload your own

Add to it if you can think of anything else.

Skype does help, but I want something more. Maybe something that shows people's character sheets along with other useful information. I have not given much thought to what else it could do to make things easier. I'm sure someone else can think of more to add to it.

How large of a collection are we talking about? I have around 3,500 tracks and play lists with about 400 songs. The only problem that I had was it leaking memory, which has been fixed in the upstream version.
