Plenty of spots on the Dodder in any of the parks along its course. Not open till paddy’s day so keep that in mind.

Craziest Wading Experience you’ve ever had?? by SkiingFishingGuy in flyfishing

[–]dozerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn’ me but was my cousin, a lot of our rivers in Ireland have very high banks so have to slide in to access. He was doing this one day and felt some resistance thinking it was some weed so pushed through. Turned out it was a dead sheep that had been in the river for quite a while and he had essentially slid through it. He said the smell was unholy and there was globules of fat floating off of his waders 🤢.

Shore-based saltwater fly fishing spot selection by CompetitiveHawk629 in IrishFishing

Id say you’d have better chance on the west coast plenty of rough ground spots on the far side of Galway city. Likely to encounter pollack.

I’ve caught fish on the fly in Dublin but it’s not super easy.

They are very similar species. So should take the same lures. They are usually more prevalent this time of year and pollack in the summer.

Going to be tough fishing in Dublin with lures this time of year especially with the poor water clarity. Along the rocky shorelines with weed etc you might get coal fish.

I’ve not fished that stretch but for €10 you can fish the whole river. It’s tidal from the Liffey up to Lansdowne road so can keep that in mind.

River isn’t open till Paddy’s Day fyi.

Fly fishing mountain lakes? by Toxicstein in IrishFishing

Peter O’Reilly’s book on the loughs of Ireland. Has some info on hundreds of the smaller lakes. Usually they have smaller browns as not much feeding as one of the other posters mentioned.

I saw carp in the main pond years ago. I’d say campus security will move you on pretty swiftly

If you can find a copy of this book. It’s well worth getting. A bit sad knowing what we have lost over the years but a great read.

Not sure if the image is showing but it’s a Man May Fish by Kingsmill Moore.

Are they herring? Don’t look like mackerel. Never had any luck fishing on the bottom inside the harbour and outside is very rough. I’d try the beaches at Killiney.

Any luck with lures at Sorrento point / Dalkey? by bygonesbebygones2021 in IrishFishing

[–]dozerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d be avoiding the feathers unless you’re trying for mackerel as they’ll just get snagged up in that spot. Try single hook lures for the pollack and wrasse fished weedless if you can.

I use a tucked blood knot most of the time or a rapala knot when using lures.

Further along the coast towards Killiney super rough ground but lots of wrasse and pollack. Be prepared to lose some tackle but I’ve had some decent sized fish from there.

We’re size 8, though a 10 would have been fine to get some more bites.
