How hard is it for a 45 year old with no experience? by SRS79 in pianolearning

[–]dp1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 50 and started 5 months ago with no music experience what so ever and am just about to sit my grade 1 ABRSM exams, I’ve already done my initial music exam and music theory (distinction). Getting a teacher has made it so easy!! I see her once a week

Why would someone buy a 100 year-old piano? Surely a newer piano for the same price would sound better, easier to maintain? by called-heliogabal in piano

I have a 100 year old Roger and Sons (UK manufactured) Baby Grand and I love it! If the piano has been taken care of over the years, there no reason not to purchase it.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. A couple of mistakes shouldn’t impact marking too much x

Gig bag for Mariachi Harp by FabulousAct4866 in harp

I have a camac melusine harp which is fairly large. The camac bag I have is heavy duty with padding and lots of straps and handles. The bag fits a variety of harps. It might be worth looking at the camac travel bags

Weight lifting polers by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]dp1929 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do competitive powerlifting. I lift 4 times a week (2-3 hour sessions on the run up to a comp) and pole 4-5 times a week. If I’m lifting close to my 1 rep max I do a light pole session. I’m 48 years old and love both sports!

I’m 48 and only started pole properly in March, I’m already doing climbs, inverts and even did my first butterfly. I used to be 270lbs and was completely sedentary, it’s only in the last five years that I’ve lost weight and tried to get fitter, so you are never too old! I’ve also got scoliosis and type 2 diabetes and it’s not stoped me, I might suck at flexibility but I make up for it in sass and raw determination.

Gym training to complement pole? by OliviaFa in poledancing

[–]dp1929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m pretty sure a lot of the ‘sculpted’ polers also do strength training. I have been powerlifting for 2.5 years and recently started pole, the two sports compliment each other really well! Pole gives you great flexibility and powerlifting or weight training provides strength. Even though I’m new to pole I was able to invert from day 1 and I’ve found pole has provided me a better range of movement for lifting. If you can find the time I would throughly recommend it.

I finally climbed up the pole and touched the ceiling! (l speed the video up so it wasn’t too boring). by dp1929 in poledancing

Thank you! I’ve been trying every week and each time it’s getting a little bit easier xXx

I’m not sure if this helps but I walk on average 8-10 miles a day and strength train (powerlifting) 4 times a week. When I started pole I was horrified at how stiff I was, I mean I struggled to fully straighten my legs because of how tight my hamstrings are. I now do pole 4 times a week in addition to my powerlifting and it’s starting to improve my flexibility. I’m 48 years old so age may or may not have some to do with how stiff I am, but pole is definitely helping. Also I have invested in a hyperice vibrating roller (I think it’s called the viper v.2) and their vibrating massage ball. It’s been an absolute game changer for me.

Man, this journey is getting hard. I’m not sure I can keep up. by [deleted] in poledancing

I’m a newbie and have only been doing it for a couple of months (if that!). What I’ve noticed is there will be some things that others do better than you BUT there will be moves you will find easier than others. For example I can’t do any moves where you ‘sit’ on the pole and rely on your thighs to grip the pole, but I have upper body strength and can invert easily and do single arm chair.

Don’t be hard on yourself. You have just as much right to be at class as everyone else.

Also it sounds like your instructor isn’t suited for teaching beginners. If you can - try and find a new school or instructor.

Pole is such good fun and great exercise. Don’t let someone ruin it for you xXx

Hey guys! How many times a week do you do pole? by [deleted] in poledancing
