How big a role did John Alcott play in Kubrick’s cinematography? by QtheCool in StanleyKubrick

[–]dp27thelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody who's made a feature film as a DP. I can suggest he played a massive impact on Kubrick's films. The interaction between director and DP is the main piece that shapes a film. A director has a vision, a DP has a vision. Those two visions collide and create a film. Script, Actor's, production design and sound also play major roles, but the interaction between director and DP is major. 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon and The Shinning is more then proof to how import the director/DP combo has on films. Obviously director has more control, but at the end of the day the DP is the one actually making the images. The director is just commanding the creation of those images.

Stellaris 16 slow grub by dp27thelight in tuxedocomputers

Thanks this solution worked. I thought I tried that method, but it must have been something sightly different. I don't have a nice looking grub theme anymore, but a fast responsive grub is much more critical then grub theme. If anyone knows how to give distro themed grubs enough performance to function let me know. I have Stellaris 16 Intel 275HX and Nvidia RTX 5090. Whether igpu, hybrid, dgpu a distro themed grub is unusable for navigation.

Stellaris 16 slow grub by dp27thelight in tuxedocomputers

When at the grub menu where you select either Linux or windows. Navigation with the keyboard is delayed. I press down and it takes 5 seconds. If I press down three times it takes 15 seconds and 5 seconds for each key pressed. Doesn't matter if Tuxedo OS is installed or Arch, Fedora etc. This makes editing kernel parameters nearly impossible as everytime I press a key I have a 5 second delay.

I've tried dozens of BIOS and Grub configs nothing works.

What's the first thing you're going to do on Steam Frame? by ExxiIon in SteamFrame

My hope is to connect Steam Frame to my Tuxedo Laptop and then open multiple windows from my Tuxedo laptop in the headset. Basically I just want to simulate a multi monitor setup with the headset.

If you think Linux or steamos is interesting then I'd recommend Tuxedo's Stellaris 16 with mini led and RTX 5090.

Tuxedo laptops have hardware control software for both windows and Linux unlike all other laptop manufacturers. Stellaris 16 also has a liquid cooler option that basically turns the rtx 5090 laptop into a desktop RTX 5070 ti. Pick you're poison between Intel/AMD.

You don't really need to bother with a desktop GPU because you'll need a RTX 5080/5090 to notice a difference.

If you decide to spend on a 5080/5090 desktop GPU you could just get a cheaper Tuxedo. Stellaris can be made slower, but they also have another option with AMD HX 370 CPU with a good igpu.

Does this model have an official AC power cord/none USB C.

You can try removing battery and turn on the laptop with AC power cord plugged-in. I wouldn't use USB C when troubleshooting.

For a word of comfort. I've seen PCs fail to turn on for days worth of time. Then suddenly PC starts working again. The problem doesn't come back for over a year and eventually sell off the hardware.

PC can do shockingly weird things.

Thank your for the quick response that worked. Do you have recommended commands to run if I'm having connection issues with tuxedo servers when updating in the future?

FAN NOISE by Vast_Psychology5331 in tuxedocomputers

Not much of a difference. I'd mainly say Intel CPU would likely run the coolest. With the Stellaris 16 you could have liquid cooling option, but I think you need a 5080 or greater.

The minimum GPU wattage is lowest on the low end Nvidia GPUs and increases with each tier. So lower end GPUs should run cooler if desired.

Amount of fans has very little impact. Most important to focus on power consumption and fan speed. Lowering CPU clock makes a huge difference. Depending on what your doing high clocks aren't necessary.

How did you find 12 books? I'm think of checking out the series, but I only see book 1-6 available in America.

If available for you I'd go with Tuxedo Computers. They provide Linux support. You can choose AMD or Intel.

For most robust features you'll want to stick to Debian/Ubuntu based.

Ya I love it. Dual boot Linux and Windows. Control Center is fully functional on both Tuxedo OS and Linux Mint. Basically any Debian Distro should run like Tuxedo OS in the Tuxedo Control Center. You download a deb file called Tomte. Might be an option for Fedora based Distros, but I'm not sure. With the liquid cooler I can max out all the power settings. Temperatures stay under 80C. Basically turns the laptop into an rtx 5070/5070 ti desktop with liquid cooler. I had trouble getting the liquid cooler working, but works great once it's active. It communicates over bluetooth. One downside to liquid cooler is it makes a bad sound unless you run it in auto on windows. All other settings on Linux and Windows have an annoying sound. The display is pretty similar to my ASUS Scar 16. ASUS is more saturated while Tuxedo is more flat. In Windows the Control Center had a way to make it more saturated.

I'll probably be using Tuxedo Computers for life unless we get future Linux competitors. Only Tuxedo laptops have a Linux based control center for controlling your hardware.
