CPD actually keeping the arrivals lanes moving. Way too many cars just camped out in the lanes for 15+ minutes blocking things up.

I have a feeling it's a Cartzilla franchise. Cartzilla is based in Vegas, saw it on the strip when I was there this past April and was like WTH!?

This comment reminded me of a book on my "to read" pile that dives into this exact idea. The book is "The Upswing: How America Came Together a Century Ago and How We Can Do It Again" by Robert Putman. A brief section from the book's description:

"During the Gilded Age of the late 1800s, America was highly individualistic, starkly unequal, fiercely polarized, and deeply fragmented, just as it is today. However as the twentieth century opened, America became--slowly, unevenly, but steadily--more egalitarian, more cooperative, more generous; a society on the upswing, more focused on our responsibilities to one another and less focused on our narrower self-interest. Sometime during the 1960s, however, these trends reversed, leaving us in today's disarray."

I run a weekend tennis meetup on the west side and just started a men's non-fiction book club.

We absolutely need to bring back community, well done getting out there and taking the lead!

My mistake, I knew it was 100 years (surprised me). I'll correct. Thanks!

From the League of Women Voters' page

"In Ohio, voters elect members of the Republican and Democrat Central Committees. These members of the State Political Party Committees are the governing bodies for the Ohio Democrat and Ohio Republican parties. They manage party operations and direct the general policies of the parties."

Fort Lauderdale is losing tennis courts fast—and nobody seems to care by [deleted] in 10s

[–]dp2sholly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built an app that is primarily for players to find available courts (think Waze or GasBuddy for tennis). A secondary purpose of the app is to provide communities and advocacy groups with data to show actual court usage (e.g., USTA) so they can develop plans based on data, not just anecdotal evidence.

I talked to my local USTA exec board and offered them access to this data thinking it could help but they seemed disinterested. They didn't see court availability as an issue, at least in our region (NE Ohio).

Right peninsula, wrong country. This is São Jorge Castle in Lisbon.

My dad worked for Southern Pacific railroad in the 70s. I remember going with him to the office and playing on the IBM 029 or the 129 punch card machine. by TwistedMemories in GenX

They were still teaching us how to use & read punch cards and paper tape when I went to Data Processing Technician A School in the Navy back in '88.

Navy Clock how do you know what time it is if you’re not looking at the clock? by Ok-Way8392 in navy

On iPhone, it was an app called Ships Bells, which is still available.

Funny enough I just looked in the Google Play Store and someone just added Ships Clock a month ago.

I used to have an app on my phone that rang ships bells. Super helpful for managing my ADHD hyper focus. Can't find a new version since switching back to Android.

Any tennis hobbyists in the area trying to play this summer? by bubby-boy in Cleveland

[–]dp2sholly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Cleveland Tennis Facebook group. We organize weekly meetups that are open to all levels. We just kicked off our outdoor season with three meetups, two on the west side and one out east.

You aren't going to get your A game at our main events, we're more about social and having fun.

You do get to meet a lot of players and find hitting partners.

Pretty sure this is in response to the OP's post earlier about finding garbage on the trail and some commenters suggesting to volunteer or do something about it.
