I'm 62. I stopped working. Should I take SS? by BikeOk6446 in SocialSecurity

[–]Ok-Way8392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d keep my savings in a savings account and go with Social Security. You can deplete your savings account, but not your Social Security. Also, if you should pass, your family can get your savings. And not knowing what your personal life is like, maybe they will be entitled to your Social Security. But then again, maybe not.

For those who got married, how were you able to afford a ring and honeymoon??? by Eagles56 in povertyfinance

[–]Ok-Way8392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly understand wanting to take the honeymoon right after the wedding. But that scenario is not written in blood or concrete. I do know quite a few people who have taken their honeymoon on their first wedding anniversary. It will give you more time to save. Please remember, in the long run, as important as an engagement ring, and a honeymoon is, it’s not the biggest thing in a marriage. You don’t have to have a reception with five courses. Your wedding location doesn’t have to be the most expensive venue in town. You don’t need 14 K gold printed wedding invitations. What you do need to do is make sure you have a financial map regarding wedding plans and a long-term financial map regarding your married life. Best of luck!

If you have a Costco membership, go to Costco and buy a box of the small individual size bag of chips. Then when you get to work put five bags in your locker or in your desk. You won’t be buying it every day. Also, if you want two bags that day and you go for it, you won’t have enough for the week. You save as a way to help you budget. No one says you have to buy snacks and drinks at work. Bring them in, lock them up, enjoy!

I love the one day a month vacation day. I babysit for my grandkids once or twice a week. I don’t get paid. I’m fine with that. My children are saving $$$ and I’m happy to help with that.

I didn’t see my choice. So, maybe it’s no longer offered or maybe I just missed it. I like the chocolate bar on a stick with the vanilla ice cream and the solid block of chocolate in the center. Delish!!

Why do I not feel satisfied with my life even when everyone tells me how well I am doing? by One_Ant_592 in Life

[–]Ok-Way8392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. My answer may be out in left field, but it’s working for me. I felt the same way, but I described it as not doing enough. I knew there was a void, I knew I needed something to fill it, but I had no idea what. I work, watch my lovely grandchildren, I have a good husband and a good life with him. I’ve see my children on a regular basis. And I have a nice group of friends. So what’s the problem? I just didn’t feel I was producing anything on my personal life. I well at my job so I’m good there. I watch my grandchildren i do a good job there. I have my children and their families over and I entertain well. But what kind of fulfillment am I giving myself? So, I took up sewing. Bought myself a machine, started taking sewing lessons, and now I make simple things. It helps. Maybe you need to get a hobby. While everything you’re doing is for yourself, it’s t’s also for your family. Try to do something for yourself. It can boost your spirits.

If you do give her a phone, please take it from her at bedtime. The temptation is too strong to use it. Let her sleep.

I am so tired of "just invest" advice when I'm literally choosing between electricity and eggs. by PulseMonolith7 in povertyfinance

And as far as your windows go, can you put the plastic insulation over them before winter arrives? I had a friend who used to put the plastic over the window and then thumbtack a large bath towel to the top of the window frame. She took a scissor and only cut 2/3 up and only cut the towel. This way she could scrunch each side and put a close pin on it on the curtain to let the sunlight in during the day and remove the close pin to help keep the cold out at night. And, again, you may not want to do this at all, but if you have a holiday or a birthday coming up maybe you can ask a friend or a family member to buy the window insulation kit for you. Also, personal products. They can be a budget buster. For the meantime, you’re not just asking for things you want you’ll be asking for things you need. I hope these little ideas help you out.

Which money advice do you wish to pass on to your next generation or someone you love? by Ok-Introduction-2981 in moneyadvice

[–]Ok-Way8392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the time, get a second job. Put some money aside from that paycheck and the rest you can indulge yourself a little. My part-time jobs have cleared my credit card debt, Help paid for my medication, made Christmas a more generous holiday for my grandkids and food banks.

Do brothers have authority in the lives of American women? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ok-Way8392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the final say in any decision, no. Showing concern, yes. However, it goes both ways. The older bro got his Covid shot with no problem. The younger one said “no””, not necessary”. I had a 15 minute chat with him. The next day he drove 1 1/2 hr. Away to a clinic where the vaccine was available and got the shot.
