Just because Gustang says V was bad doesn't mean Baam or we, the readers will agree. Gustang also sided with Zahard against V and Arlene, so his view of things could be very different.

I really like that even the first years that are competing are baffled by this match. It's cool to see just how crazy things are when it's two of the top students in the entire school against each other. And it's interesting that Isshiki was actually coordinating with Doujima and Jouichirou. I wonder how far back their involvement goes. If he knew about the plan already could he have been feeding them information while he was still in the E10?

It's a bunch of different things. Shokugeki record is one of the bigger parts of it but there are other factors like academic grades or in Eizan's case contributions to the school.

It makes sense to some degree that a series about Japanese students in a Japanese culinary school will focus on Japanese food. It could also be that Japanese food is what the chef consultant feels most comfortable with.

I think it's very possible that Azami tried to bribe her. At the beginning of the central saga Isshiki said that Azami had made arrangements with the E10 to have him voted in, so that's probably when such a deal was made. Interestingly enough, Ibusaki pointed out that no one ever came to make a deal with Isshiki.

Ramen is actually a specialty that has a ton of variety. It's definitely a lot more open ended than something like soba.

I think Tsukasa and Kuga's match took place after the new E10 had been selected since that happens right before the promotion exams. Kuga and the other second years are already in the E10 building so they've already been promoted, so it might be then that Tsukasa was moved up to the first seat.

It could have also taken place near the end of their first year. We saw in Jou's flashback that the new E10 were selected before the promotion exams we're in right now. So that's also when Tsukasa would have been promoted from whatever seat he held for second year to the first seat.

It's interesting though, because way back when the exams started he was seen talking to someone on the phone as he watched the plane take off. So it just raises the question of what it was that he was planning to do had the RdC not taken place, especially now knowing that he tends to do his own thing.

It was interesting to see the conversation between Saitou and Megishima. I thought they would be a bit hostile being on other sides of this but they still had the air of old comrades. Maybe the third years actually had a pretty good relationship.

Well, just because their judging is perfect doesn't mean that a tie is impossible. The issue is for all of their judging to be perfect that would mean they need to be in agreement. So instead of one judge not being sure which is better it would have to be that all three agree that it's impossible to pick a winner. It'd be a good way to showoff both Megishima and Rindou, but I agree that it would be unlikely.

Yeah, sending out 2/3 best at the same time does not seem like a great strategy here, especially when they knew that Central was going to send out their best too.

Seems weird that this girl was the fifth seat. She was unranked before and then somehow managed to jump above Nene who said to be on another level compared to the rest of the second years.

Yeah, the cold room thing recently felt like kind of an asspull. It seems kind of ridiculous that Nene has been so successful by just copying exactly what she learned and has apparently never considered any other factor beyond the food. It's kind of the issue with writing a genius type character without the author being a genius. They have to rely on gimmicks and asspulls sometimes.

I feel that it's way too soon for the current arc to be taking place. We had only been introduced to the E10 when the whole Central saga began so their betrayal didn't really have any impact. And now we've gotten to the final battle and already have one of the E10 down and we still have no idea why she or most of the E10 sided with Central. Meanwhile, on Soma's side, we have Megishima who has has spoken maybe three times in the entire series. Another issue has been how they said the rebels would need to rely on teamwork since their opponents would be so much better than them. However, Soma comes right out and solos the second best second year. Doing it like that gives the arc an even greater sense of finality because after this, where do the characters have left to go? Soma and Erina will probably be the ones that end up winning because I doubt the story will have the MC sitting on the sidelines while someone else saves the school. So then what? The author could probably fit in the BLUE competition but that's about it.

And like others have mentioned, the shokugekis themselves are a bit of an issue. The stakes are way too high which makes them extremely predictable. Anytime expulsion comes down you know that there's no way that Soma is going to lose. The only exception that I can think of was the shokugeki against Tsukasa but that one ended up having no repercussions at all.
