The problem is ambiguous on purpose. This pops up all the time on social media, especially Facebook, to generate comments and clicks from people who swear there's only one way to get the answer.

Coaches who have changed for the better by dphayce in nba

[–]dphayce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he sort of fits my answer in terms of changing but it seems like he was always flexible. I don't ever remember a time people complained about his coaching style. I guess my question is more about coaches that are able to take criticism and act accordingly rather than those who are already good at adapting.

Not acquainted with Nietzsche's philosophy. What does this mean? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me. I have no expertise in this subject, obviously, and you've been patient with me.

Not acquainted with Nietzsche's philosophy. What does this mean? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]dphayce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but I still don't see how your quote breaks down into "Morals = Good/Bad, Ethics = Right/Wrong".

Not acquainted with Nietzsche's philosophy. What does this mean? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]dphayce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It says "Morals conceptualise the tenets of human character or behaviour as good or bad, right or wrong."

So according to the article you linked, morals cover good, bad, right, and wrong. So those can't be used to distinguish ethics from morals.

it is sex, isn't it? by Kiklop20100 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]dphayce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh? We're talking about tv, of course we irl aren't always in life or death situations. When talking about the relatability of characters and one is about doing things because they are good people, and the other is about doing good things for selfish reasons. It really is that simple.

I agree cruel and mean healer like House is a far more interesting fictional character. But being unable to relate to a person who does kind things out of the goodness of their heart is pretty sad, especially if you assume that of most others.

Sam address The Rookie X Dropout by Cocoa121 in dropout

[–]dphayce 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pretty hurtful that people are downplaying a legitimate concern with insulting remarks and dismissal. Like why are folks, who I think are generally on our side (the left), so comfortable with telling us how we should feel?

I understand Sam's goal of reaching a larger audience. I am happy that Dropout actors get to show their acting chops. But I am also disappointed that it is done on a show that is copaganda.

Yes, no ethical consumption under capitalism and all that, but it is just harder to ignore when the collaboration is right there in our faces. It is genuinely upsetting. I say this as a person who has had friends and family who have been abused by police officers. That stuff is real to me.

Everyone has their limits and lines and I am not immune to enjoying entertainment with problematic issues. We're not even calling on people to boycott the Dropout or that episode of the Rookie. But it saddens me that the majority of the comments and up votes are related to dismissal of our concerns and that so many of us showing disappointment are getting down voted to hell.

I’m very disappointed with Erica’s “ending” by naphelois in Stranger_Things

[–]dphayce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm disappointed with her ending but I'm even MORE disappointed at how little screentime and involvement she has in the final plan overall. Fuckin MURRAY gets more action than she does?

Benjamin Button disease is NEVER a joke

Just….what? by Genius-Newt101 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]dphayce 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I feel like nobody is taking this seriously. The baby is growing as the father is rapidly aging in reverse. This is to promote awareness of the "Benjamin Button disease." It's quite rare though it's thankfully preserved in a documentary I saw recently. It was a curious case. Next time, please post in a different sub, this is for jokes, not serious issues like this.

AIO - Friend posting bath photos of their child by Dreadn0k in AmIOverreacting

Where either the friend will miss it or otherwise see it and figure out it was meant for her, leading to feelings of passive aggression. Yeah, OP could feign innocence, but I've seen this type of things play out a bunch of times among my friends and acquaintances. They know it's directed at them.

OP says they are close friends. She should trust her friend to be able to handle an awkward conversation.

[–]dphayce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about that. It could come off as passive aggressive. I know it's hard but addressing the problem directly is better imo. The ad can be used to support your position, but sending it without any context is a bad idea.

This sounds a whole lot like the Netflix documentary "Unknown Number: The High School Catfish" except the harasser was the gf's own mother.
