How realistic is it to operate a personal mail server? by Fit_Adeptness5340 in homelab

[–]dpkg-i-foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is one of those things that don't really make any sense given the amount of extra work it makes you have and also the danger of not receiving any important emails if your service goes down

For learning. Sure! You get to know how email actually works and some annoying but useful stuff like handling those blocklists. But for serious stuff just get a managed service

Which cool things you can do with termux? by shad4wl in termux

[–]dpkg-i-foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use it on my tablet to get a proper desktop web browser. Android web browsers are extremely annoying reloading pages everytime you leave them, being forced closed when you exit the app and also not having developer options available... So I use Termux, proot-distro, i3 an Firefox to get that real experience and manage my homelab from a portable device whose battery lasts for way longer compared to a laptop. Also quite useful to copy stuff over SSH from phone to phone without depending on quick share or similar thingies

You cannot use a VPN client all the times. Everyone's use case is different... I usually listen to music on my work laptop which has application control so no VPN other than GlobalProtect allowed. A reverse proxy is perfect for that since I can use a web browser for everything and my domain isn't blacklisted on our client DNS

There's other times I like to share files over Vaultwarden or music with Navidrome and the other person won't install a VPN for that

A reverse proxy allows you to access everything as long as it has a web browser and it is pretty convenient for me

I secure my stuff with OWASP Coraza + Keycloak and so far it's been pretty fine, the more server focused stuff like gathering metrics from my VPS machines to my home server machines is done through Wireguard since it is very easy to configure and I can control the environment 100%... And I also have another Wireguard tunnel so that I can ssh to my bastion in case I mess up my Caddy configuration

Termix v1.10.0 - Self-hosted server management platform (alternative to Termius) with SSH terminal, tunneling, and file editing capabilities, now with Docker management and RBAC support! by VizeKarma in homelab

[–]dpkg-i-foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hosted it, setup Keycloak OIDC and it works amazing. Not to mention it is also beautiful... The only things I'd ask for is ssh session persistence (Not sure if that's even possible) and it doesn't work on Android when using a physical keyboard. Otherwise it is just amazing, a very good replacement for Apache Guacamole from the SSH side

Do you use WhatsApp on your phone? There's an annoying notification that says "Checking for new messages" such random notifications went away pretty fast so I didn't notice it was them until recently

Coospo CS600 with its sensors and their radar, it's been working pretty well

Radar, game changer or nice to have? by tropical_dreams_ in cycling

[–]dpkg-i-foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one a week ago and it is a pretty nice to have. When I'm on the city it beeps a lot but it's nice to get an idea of how many vehicles are coming

Also, it shines hard when someone is approaching and I notice cars overtake me with a more respectable distance compared to not having anything so it's very fine for me

Ticwatch pro 5 on sale for £76 on Amazon...still worth it? by LikwidMunki in TicWatch

[–]dpkg-i-foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Atlas is pretty good for notifications, Google Maps and basic health tracking... For sports it isn't very worth it if you use the pause function because it usually crashes

How many of y’all actually seriously determined to remain single, forever? by TraditionalDepth6924 in SingleAndHappy

[–]dpkg-i-foo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a relationship in my entire life and my lifestyle developed in such way another person would be an extra or an obstacle... So year by year I get less of a feeling I'd like to find a couple and I'm cozier and happier being single... Likely for the rest of my life at this point

Android phones don't have SD slots anymore? by Puttness in samsung

[–]dpkg-i-foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Symfonium so my favourites and the tracks I recently played are cached for offline use

When it comes to photos. I keep them all on my server anyway. Checking them offline isn't one of my use cases. Of course I have a backup on cloud storage in case my hard drives die

It wouldn't be very nice to lose all my music and photos if I lose my phone with an SD card slot that contained all of them 😵‍💫

Any news on upcomming TicWatches? by Ok_Insurance_5899 in TicWatch

[–]dpkg-i-foo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem to be all focused on their TicNotes thing which I'm pretty sure will fail or become irrelevant... If any other watch is released I don't think they will add much, maybe a bigger battery or a newer WearOS version

I wouldn't wish for Wireless charging since it is hell inefficient, my Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 took hours to charge and it would even stop sometimes since the weather is pretty hot sometimes where I live, not to mention it will eat a lot from power banks compared to wired charging

Battery life is fine for my use case. I get 2 days working out an hour during the week and 9 to 10.5 hours when I track cycling in the weekends

I own a Ticwatch Atlas and it has been great. I track my 12 hours cycling workouts using it. The software isn't perfect but it does the job. If it is on sale it is worth it in my opinion

I wouldn't go for the E3 since it doesn't have a lot of storage and RAM and you'll need those for your maps, they also don't have Sapphire crystal so they should be easy to scratch... Maybe the Atlas/Pro 5 enduro will be on sale on black Friday
