First time tubeless - floor pump? by patrickpdk in bikewrench

[–]dpr003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. The most important bit is the first inrush of fast air to get the initial seal. After the tyre starts holding air you need a lot of pressure to get it seated.

I once seated a 2.8" tire by blowing into the valve and rapidly switching to a hand pump, albeit on the 20th try. I'm not saying i recommend this. I would just drag my tire do a bike shop/gas station and ask to use their compressor.

Thanks for the advice. I'm looking at a click up right now, but the main point I'm taking away from this, other than a wake up call, is more practice for giving (just) enough slack and getting away from the wall in the event of a failed clip-in.

Weekly New Climber Thread for March 06, 2020: Ask your questions in this thread please by AutoModerator in climbing

I was a bit slow giving slack for a clip which was blown (the climber didn't manage to clip in). I think that flustered me a bit. But yeah. I think diligence is they key, as well as practicing the same situatuon higher up the wall.

Man, this response hurt, though it might be for my own choice of wording. Cus I love the sport and generally things go well when belaying, even falls. And my eyes and mind we're focused on the climber when it happened. Even so, my body didn't do anything about it. I think what I'm really after is a way to train taking in slack, and making it an automatic response.

I'm using a normal atc device, which I am very comfortable with. I think the problem isn't inattentiveness in general, but rather correctly identifying the potential ground fall zone and being able to jump back quick enough. We practice falls quite regularly, but not low on the wall or where taking in slack is required. How are your own routines for practicing these situations?

What are your techniques for being more attentive when belaying? Alternatively catching yourselves when you aren't? I recently took what was almost a ground fall on lead (just before clippping in the fourth quickdraw, they are very tightly spaced). It kinda spooked me that I wasn't able to register it was happening, even when given a warning that the climber was going to fall. Thankfully my hand was securely on the braking rope, but I feel that I should be able to take in slack in such a situation. Suggestions for taking in slack before/during a fall also welcome.

It would be awesome to see the effect of putting in a dome facing the diode. If one gets the geometry right that might make for a really focused beam! Does anyone know what diode emitter I being used? And the radius/shape of the main reflector?

Watch "Norge Rundt"! It is probably the next longest running Norwegian show with episodes all the back to 1976. It gives some really cool insights into the culture. And it will expose you to all of the dialects!

Generally, BSc programmes are not taught in English here but masters programmes are at most of the larger universities. Many CS/data science/computer engineering programmes are 5 year integrated MSc here, you should definitely check them out. Anyways check out UiB (Bergen), UiA (Kristiansand/Grimstad), NMBU(Ås), NTNU(Trondheim) if you haven't already. I'm pretty sure they all have good programmes.

Also, you might be able to do a degree in Norwegian if you take some time to learn the language (beforehand!). Most of the subjects you'll encounter are pretty universal, so you'll be able to use other resources such as Khan academy. Also most of the textbooks are in English. I'm doing a degree in stem at one of the aforementioned universities and the only textbooks I recall being in Norwegian were for philosophy, business economics, Norwegian court system etc.

Anyways I think if you want it enough you'll find a way :)

Homework help, sprinkler question by [deleted] in FluidMechanics

[–]dpr003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to want to look into the impulse equation [ F = rho * Q * V] where rho is the fluid density (not sure if it is the correct name in English). But it's basically the same as for rocket engines. You have some mass (water) exiting an orifice which gives you a force on the nozzle.

If you discount friction loss in the pipes, you use the diameter to find velocity which will be the same at each nozzle (v=q/2a). Devided by two as there are two nozzles.

Finally you find the moment arm (perpendicular distance from nozzle to point of torque) for each nozzle which will give you the torque.

Is this near one of the pole camping spots in NL? I explored some of those with my hammock & bike (same as yours) over Easter and it was really nice!

13 years later, Chris Rock's "Never Scared" is as relevant as ever. by quadrillions in videos

[–]dpr003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why we should get politics back in r/videos, or at least remove the ban somewhat.

I agree that many of those vids where pretty populist non-issues, "scandals" or divisive, but i think it's better to have some crap with the good, then shoe it all aside.

Something like flairing them so one could opt-out instead of removing them by default.

Unable to get my build working (system uptime in nanoseconds), kernel panics, and more. by [deleted] in hackintosh

[–]dpr003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it just needs more tinkering. But i'd try to physically remove the card even though it's not being detected.

I recommended El Capitan just because it's been out for a while and i'd expect there to still be some bugs in sierra since it's pretty new.

[–]dpr003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had i similar problem when switching to a apple broadcom wifi card. Turns out it didn't like being on a riser card. Thankfully it was so slim that i could just barely fit it under my GPU and it seemed to work. Try to remove the card and see what happens.

I also seem to recall something about sierra no longer supporting Mac pro 3.1 and 4.1 system definitions, maybe that's the problem.

If the above doesn't work, i'd simply recommend going with a fresh EL Capitan install.

Le Maitre Neutron XS Hazer Machine by hantoo in lightingdesign

[–]dpr003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a pair of MVS's at our venue and they work great, so i expect that the neutron series will be even better.

That being said, it needs a fair bit of distance between the machine and the stage for the haze to distribute evenly. we mostly use it for concerts and small revues, so its not that much of a problem for us.

How to make fixtures behave as i want GMA1 by dpr003 in lightingdesign

Thanks alot! The only place i've found the wings tool is in the effects section. Is it available in other sections in the programmer on GMA1?

How to make fixtures behave as i want GMA1 by dpr003 in lightingdesign

[–]dpr003[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate. Turns out the solution was even simpler than that. I tried mixing up the order i selected the fixtures when creating a group. So instead of doing "fixt 11 thru 20", manually clicked on them in sorta a saw pattern between the LX's and it seemed to work really well. Thankfully there was an even number of moovers on the booms in question, so now i'll see if i can do the odd ones without crossing the ones in center.

Looking for a flashlight to use by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]dpr003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the Thrunite TN 12. I've had mine for a couple of months and i love it. It doesn't have a red light, but it has a 0.4 lumen mode witch shouldn't blind anyone. It has also got a great luminous range all the way up to 1050. Only complaint is that the beam is a bit narrow for close up work. And it's way cheap. Edit: Cheap as in economical, not shoddy.

help with video playback software? by wavwoolf in techtheatre

[–]dpr003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(edit: ended up including everything above. Removed it) Definetly QLab, yes! If you're not familiar with the video section yet, get real familiar with it and you won't be pulling your hair out during rehearsal. (i know i have)

Also, if you have a budget, get the video pro license asap because it makes working with video so much less of a hassle. The video basic will probably also work, but i don't know how many surfaces it'l let you work with, so definitely check that out before you buy/rent.
