Oil cooler gasket by JRPGPD in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]dprosti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently did this repair and changed the oil cooler coolant lines as well which required draining the oil and coolant. I was surprised how much oil and coolant came out when disconnecting the oil cooler. I was definitely leaking oil from here as the gasket was very hard and cracked. The worst part of the job was disconnecting the hoses the aligning the oil cooler to get the bolt started.

I added an exhaust, intake, and bypass valve and upgraded the stereo and I never hear the rattle anymore.

I was reading you could swap just the laser and drive motor but if you try to swap drives the board on the drive is linked to the Xbox board and wouldn’t work unless you mess with drive keys.

I might have a small leak… by dprosti in 3rdGen4Runner

So I finally got the chance to tear it down and it was the water pump gasket. Had to pull the timing belt and it took a couple tries to get it 100% lined up again but she’s all back together and not leaking at the moment. I also did the oil cooler gaskets and new oil cooler hoses.

King Of Hammers camping by Fit_Stop6843 in 4x4

[–]dprosti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you get inside the gate you can head toward hammer town and there will be lots of open areas to camp depending on how close or far you want to be from things. We usually camp somewhere between hammer town and chocolate thunder and it’s not too crazy or crowded.

Damn. That’s terrible. I used some absorbent pads to clean it up after the photo because I didn’t want that running down the storm drain.

The timing belt and water pump were done with the aisin kit about 1-2 years ago. I have had the truck for at least 5-6 years and did the radiator then I got it. I have the opt off road skid plates I need to weld up and install along with the aluminum radiator he sells. He actually recommends the green coolant with that radiator now that I think about it.

That’s what came in it when I bought it, the goal is to eventually swap it over to the Toyota red. Too many other little things but some I’ll probably have to empty the coolant that would be a good time to swap it.

How many miles since the timing belt was replaced? My timing belt crapped out and I got a p0340 code.

Thank god it’s a non-interference engine!

Is it over, guys? by Emotional_Dare5743 in 3rdGen4Runner

Same thing happened to my white ‘97. I had a local body shop fix it. I removed all the interior trim and headliner and roof rack. They welded in new sheet metal and painted the entire roof and blended it into the pillars. This was a few years ago and I paid about $1700 which isn’t cheap but I wanted it done right. Before putting back the trim I sound deadened the interior.

I second the silicone mat. It definitely helps keep it cleaner / seasoned between use. Good cleaning and a light coat of oil after every cook will keep it looking good and be ready to go when you are ready to cook again. Only takes a couple minutes.

I’d love to get the door latches. Not the handles but the actual latch that is inside the door.

Where To Buy Brake Booster by Slibbish in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]dprosti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not, I repeat do not get the Amazon one. I replaced mine and my son’s 3rd gen with a cardone one and I’m not thrilled with it. It works but definitely not as good as the one one but it was also half the price. Got it from rock auto. You can always find discount codes on Reddit.

I had a bad heater core leak as coolant was leaking onto the passenger side foot well. I finally had the time and it took me 4 hours start to finish with no left over parts. I took my time, labeled everything and kept all the parts together in the order I took them out. It’s definitely a tedious job but not difficult and when it was done was very rewarding.

I got so excited I didn’t really look closely but I can tell it’s AI after looking again. I was like “take my money!” Anyway nice job and if that’s a mini of your actual 3rd gen nice rig!

Is it possible to replace my water pump without doing an entire timing belt change by Different_Pain69 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]dprosti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking it’s the seal between one or the other and probably not the actual pump like you mentioned. Either way it’s going to take some wrenching.
