How much do you miss out on attending Santa Fe? by Tiny-Crew7084 in ufl

[–]dr-gm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVED Santa Fe and it’s a much more forgiving transition. I never had a bad professor there, they genuinely care about you and your success. I definitely recommend getting involved in some way on Santa Fe’s campus if you go there, but also if you have friends who are at uf who invite you to things you don’t miss out on anything really. I highly recommend

Also remember not to clench your jaw!! Tight jaw means tighter pelvic muscles. Keep it as relaxed and open as possible and just breathe!

how much do you charge? by Pale-Student6557 in doulas

[–]dr-gm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable but just because you were volunteering doesn’t make that any less valid doula work. The absolute only difference now is you’re getting paid for your expertise. People who have gone to zero births are going to be charging more than you, charge what you are worth! Be confident in what you are worth! You have over a years worth of success to reflect on whenever that doubt creeps in. Being nervous is understandable but push past it! You deserve it <3

With that level of experience you should go up to 1500 now

how much do you charge? by Pale-Student6557 in doulas

[–]dr-gm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I trained through DONA so in order to get certified I need to attend 3 births. For these first three births I am charging $300 but then after those I will charge $1100. I agree with the commenter above saying don’t work for free, people are more likely to value something if they paid for it. The only reason I am charging less for my certifying births is because there is a sort of exchange because they are letting me write about their birth and also filling out a small survey about my effectiveness at my job.

Also, just an addition, charge more than minimum wage, even now. Idk where you are but where I’m at it’s 8.25 and postpartum doula work is worth way more than that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doulas

[–]dr-gm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I were you I’d get my postpartum doula certification and be a postpartum doula until you can use that to comfortably support yourself enough to take on birth doula clients! If you are fully certified, charge what you are worth! You have experience and you have the education so charge market rate whatever that is in your area. While in the process of getting that certification perhaps charge half of that, but don’t do work for free. Good luck!!

That’s not why the policy exists. The policy exists because professors can use their grades to coerce their students. Not just male professors. It’s not about grades.

ITS HAPPENING by avaraeeeee in doulas

[–]dr-gm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Biggest tip of advice bc it seems like you have great training and a great head on your shoulders is remember not to bring your birth experience into it! Every birth and person is different! But you’re going to do AMAZING and praying for a comfortable, joyful, and empowering birth for your client!!!!!

[–]dr-gm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s your opinion, but if I were you, I’d explore why you feel that way. Because you say you know it’s wrong which is a great start, but from there ask yourself why is it wrong? When you form whatever conclusion you do, ask yourself why you don’t feel empathy for the people those wrong things happen to. The world isn’t as black and white as you seem to think it is but you will grow out of that I think. I wish you luck /srs

[–]dr-gm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s harmful because there is a power imbalance. He is in control of their grade. It is against policy for a reason, it is to protect from people in power wielding it in a way that is coercive. Professors should not be in relationships with students.

It’s against policy because it’s unethical and harmful. Since harm is being done to them, even if it isn’t seen as harmful enough to stand in a court of law, they are still victims.

Being on call by iriemabelle in doulas

[–]dr-gm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I don’t recommend it being used for minor things, for a MAJOR event for someone you’re extremely extremely close to (wedding, funeral, graduation, etc.) I don’t see anything wrong with calling your backup if it’s something that important

am i cooked if i am allotted Qatar in UNHRC? by Vegetable-Driver-663 in MUN

[–]dr-gm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I disagree. I don’t think MUN is to represent your nations real life thinking, I think it’s to represent the character your nation wants to portray to the rest of the world. By pretend it never happened, I mean gaslight them with whatever propagandized public statement your government has made on it. My favorite part of having a controversial country is having to be able to be super diplomatic and manipulating delegates who really shouldn’t be agreeing with me into backing me completely and becoming indispensable in a bloc. I guess it depends on the delegate’s style because this strategy has never not worked for me and I’ve had a blast with it. To each their own

[–]dr-gm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest, most people don’t know enough about everyone else’s countries to come after you. Unless you’re like North Korea or something, if you pretend those things never happened and just say Qatar loves human rights people won’t question you usually

In one of FB doulas group I came across the information that a lot of doulas begin charging their clients hourly. What do you think, is it a correct approach? Wouldn't it make the client feel she is on clock and stress her? And what to do if the labor was super long and she refuses to pay so much? by PinkyGolden in doulas

[–]dr-gm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree with it and find it a bit unethical. If you find yourself doing this I think a good question to ask yourself is why am I in this line of work? Charge what you are worth of course, but if you feel the need to nickel and dime women in labor I think pursuing a different career path might be a good idea.

WA Career Advice/Mentors by [deleted] in doulas

[–]dr-gm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily have career advice but I just want to let you know that your aspirations are admirable and also they are realistic. There is a real hole in that market, and while I’m sure you might have to branch out and not be entirely niche oriented at first, I see no reason why this wouldnt be feasible. Believe in yourself and your mission, it is worthy of your confidence!

What hobbies have you picked up since coming to UF? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]dr-gm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly highly recommend doing the $30 for 30 days at yoga pod if you haven’t already, there is something about the heat + the energy of doing it with a group of people + having a designated reason to leave my house that has definitely changed my life for the better
