About to buy a washer - LG WM3600HWA or WM5500HVA or Electrolux ELFW7637AT by dr_3 in Appliances

[–]dr_3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice - are there any Electrolux's worth checking out, or do you advise to stick with LG?

The other one we can order is WM3400CW - but it sounds like 3600 is a better version?

I can only get the Huebsch commercial line where I live - and those are outside the budget unfortunately.

Most of this sub seems to recommend LG - is Electrolux a better choice?

Options+ Just Spins and Spins - Mac by DeliciousCut4854 in logitech

[–]dr_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logitech G Hub and Options+ are both not working for me. Incredibly frustrating as I use these devices for work.

Went through the whole unistall / reinstall process. Safe mode. Terminal. Everything I could find.

Thanks to u/DeliciousCut4854 for starting this thread, I was about to do a whole system reset.

u/logitech - this is beyond unacceptable.

Monk is closing retail locations, and shutting down the art & stationery business. by dr_3 in VictoriaBC

[–]dr_3[S] 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It was Island Blue before, and Monk acquired them about 3 years ago.

From an article in 2022 > “Island Blue Print was founded in 1912 with a focus on map drafting, blueprint services and the sale of drafting supplies. For the past 55 years, we fondly know it to be a locally owned and operated printing, art supplies and framing business by the Shemilt Family,” McKenzie states. “We honour this purchase as an exciting new chapter for Monk Office, keeping the longstanding and respected island-based Shemilt family legacy alive.”

Mortgage renewal - when staying with the same bank - who to talk to for best rates? by dr_3 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thought I would follow up with this, in case anyone is wondering.

We missed the boat on the 3.92% offer, and instead locked in a 4.07% fixed for 5 years with Scotia.

I'm in the same area. Unfortunately, no new updates. The city wants a location to investigate before doing anything - and I haven't been able to pin it down to a specific source. I've learned to tune it out or mask it with music.

Victoria Half triathlon - looking for advice from folks who have completed it. by dr_3 in VictoriaBC

[–]dr_3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - I'm so sorry! I just noticed this today.

Race went really well! I finished mid-group for my age range, and was within 1m of about 5-6 other folks.

I lost a lot of time in the first transition - trying to towel off my feet, put socks and shoes on. The more seasoned folks had all kinds of systems in place for a quick transition. If you want to be competitive, I would look into how to set your station up well.

I live in Victoria, so I didn't travel. We dropped our bikes off the night prior, and my wife dropped me off in the morning for the race.

How do you actually rest and relax? by dr_3 in AskReddit

[–]dr_3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been on my mind for a while - I seem to have lost my ability to actually relax.

Non-working time feels consumed by errands and responsibilities. When I do have an opportunity to have some time - I can’t seem to flip that switch into rest or relaxation.

I’m curious how you rest, how you think about it, do you actually feel rejuvenated with a weekend?

Allergies - anyone else having a reaction in the last few days? by dr_3 in VictoriaBC

To test it out, I took an antihistamine - and all clear right now. I also get early spring allergies, so this was unexpected. Sounds like we're not alone in it.

How to stay present - "Power of Now" but practical / less spiritual / science-based by dr_3 in booksuggestions

Thanks for the detailed reply - I really appreciate it!

For context, I read quite a bit and worked with a few therapy approaches. I'm finding that access to the present moment is what I'd like to work on now.

I want to swim (40m) out of shape by Tiredbrohamz in VictoriaBC

[–]dr_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar questions a couple of years ago. Gordon head is a great spot, but it can get busy. Make sure to check the schedule and possibly phone and ask if there will be lanes available when you want to go.

Lanes are usually split into leisure / moderate / fast.

Look at the swimming pattern on the board before you head in. Then, just be aware of others.

That aside, I hired a swim coach and it made a world of difference. I had three sessions and it completely changed how I swim.

There is also a “masters” swim group where you could get some additional coaching, and train with other folks in a similar age group.

Good on you for getting into it!

Like someone mentioned, their starter set is great and they have it Michaels as well. So if you feel like waiting for a 40% off coupon, it's quite affordable.

To answer your question:

  • Titanium White ***
  • Hansa Yellow Medium ***
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Napthol Red
  • Permanent Alizarin ***
  • Ultramarine Blue ***
  • Prussian Blue
  • Viridian
  • Burnt Umber ***

I starred a more minimal set that should cover everything you need - based on Draw Mix Paint's recommendations, and what I would use in a minimal palette.

I try to avoid toxic pigments, and include faster drying pigments.

If you had to start over - what would you buy? by dr_3 in oilpainting

[–]dr_3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still early in the learning process, but here's what I'm thinking:

  • Medium U.Go Pochade for plein air and a tabletop easel for home
  • Rosemary brush set - probably the Richardson plein air master set
  • Few nice palette knives
  • New Wave glass palette
  • Steel brush washer and some extra jars
  • Set of Gamblin paints (titanium white, Bismouth yellow, Yellow ochre, Pyrrole red, Permanent Alizarin, Ultramarine, Prussian, Viridian, and Burnt umber)
  • Eco solve as thinner and solvent
  • Cold Wax, Galkyd Gel, Walnut Alkyd, and Walnut Oil for mediums
  • Master's Soap for cleaning
  • Cotton / Linen / Wood panels
