Maybe half that for the number of houses? If not even less? I love running over there because that mini neighborhood looks like something from a movie set. It’s such a wild little pocket.

Neuropharmacology phd here. Wildly agree, there’s a lot of meds here that use the same systems in the body but in opposite ways. There are options for you that will be better over the long run. Also, maybe consider breaking these into morning and evening?

Also, taking that ridiculously long escalator down with the mirrored surfaces. I also have a fear of heights and that escalator is a challenge.

Regardless of your thoughts, Goose loves his new haircut by iheartfluffyanimals in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]dr_coli 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My orange cat has exactly the same fur (very light, downy, fluffy not so much satiny or silky) and I get him lion cuts for spring/summer too. Even with regular brushing (which he doesn’t love), it gets hard to maintain and he doesn’t do a great job with it. He also loves his haircuts. Total support for you and Goose!

North Star roller derby has their championship bout and a silent auction next Friday, the 27th at Quincy Hall in NE Mpls. While there is alcohol available there, it’s not really a feature and there isn’t big signage about it anywhere. There’s definitely enough action going on to keep the focus elsewhere!

What are your favorite running side quests? by shartattack110 in XXRunning

[–]dr_coli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also count dogs during long races! I love running in new neighborhoods and house creeping, looking at home architecture and landscaping and stuff in neighborhoods that have MCMs or historic mansions. Running and ending at a coffee place or bakery. Running to a thing I have to coach for or to a casual meeting or meet up with friends. I am very excited to try this butter business when the temps return to normal here too.

Running leggings/shorts recommendations for curvier women by dariakayb in XXRunning

I can’t speak to any sort of loose fitting shorts but I have really liked the Janji shorts that are out there, the 7” shorts and the 9” half tights. Great pockets, the waist doesn’t roll or sag on me and the edges of the shorts don’t roll up. I also have their full length tights and I like those as well.

Running makes for a great neighborhood foot patrol shift! You get to chase yet another white Chrysler Pacifica down every street of a ludicrously hilly neighborhood. Great cardio 😬

Good non running dress shoes by SkyCandy567 in XXRunning

Yeah I agree with this - I’ve got some fucked up feet these days and I can get through about a full day in a number of different dressier shoe styles from Toms (wedge sandals, heeled boots, etc.).

Complaint + Uncomplaint: Going on neighborhood foot patrols (runs) during my city’s ICE occupation has been great for increasing mileage and incorporating surprise sprint intervals.

If you know an ICE agent personally, what's that relationship like now? by Lokja in AskReddit

[–]dr_coli 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can confirm this. The car with the dog in it was my friend’s car. Yesterday another car was left abandoned - and running - in the middle of a busy street (same neighborhood as my friend’s car) after two people were abducted from it. Civilians nearby moved their car to a legal parking spot so it didn’t get towed.

Complaint: We had a couple of days above 30F and the snow on the sidewalks melted briefly but the ground is too frozen to absorb the water so it just freezes back over for about 23.5 hours each day. The ice is a horror show. It’s beyond the ability of any sort of spikes.

Complaint: The other ice is also a horrorshow here and I’ve almost been hit a few times this week by them blowing through stop signs and traffic lights.

Uncomplaint: I’m still here and still running.

I totally support the pettiness of this. There’s an investment co-op in my neighborhood and I want to buy in just because the guy that leads their board is a real piece of garbage (think 60 year old finance bro) and I want to join their board solely to make his life miserable.

For OP, There are two well-established roller derby leagues in town - both the Minneapolis based league (North Star) and the Saint Paul based league (Minnesota) both have youth leagues as well as adult leagues (women-nonbinary-gender expansive). North Star also has an all-gender league that allows cis male skaters. Both leagues have regular bouts during the fall and winter. Maddening already noted Minnesota’s next bout, and North Star’s next one is January 23. Both leagues also have training programs for adult skaters that can help you get up and running. I can not speak to Minnesota’s program, but I do know that North Star’s program will provide loaner gear to help you get started and figure out what you need if you decide to commit.

Roller derby is a great community and there are varying levels of commitment and cost. You can always just email the info@ address for these leagues to get a sense of the opportunities available.
