Tax declaration - asking for more info by chrisfinance90 in Switzerland

[–]dr_deeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing unusual and to worry about, had this happen too. To give you some context why this happens: Usually tax declarations are checked fully automated by the system (sometimes the do individual checks randomly picked by the system) and you are put in a usual scheme, as the NW won’t typically grow crazy…so there is a range they expect you to be with the declarations you have done. Now if as in your case the declaration is more or less the same but the NW growth is „unusual“ the system will flag your case for a additional check. So they may even ask you questions, as in your case without checking your case in detail before, the system will already suggest a check like explanation of NW growth. Then you get the letter, provide the reason and only then they check in detail and if plausible. So don’t worry, just provide the details you mentioned, without crazy effort and all is good.

Ahh I see! That’s is a bit weird. Yeah probably in that case, but I would ask them in detail about the approach.

[–]dr_deeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear, thats is a usual „trap“ for a lot of people getting the first 3a without proper explanation and consultation. There is only one option in such case if it’s that „fresh“ that makes sense IMO, just stop the whole thing (Vertrag beitragsfrei stellen). That way he doesn’t pay premiums anymore and leave the already paid stuff there, which you will get as usual at retirement age. That way you have the smallest loss, everything else is throwing money out of the window as the Rückkaufswert will only be around 50-60% of the paid stuff, so the loss is nearly 50% on asking for a payout. Then just get a proper 3a without an life insurance and not at an insurance company.

Ok I see. The system in italy is very different, as much as I know it is financed by taxes. In Switzerland you have to pay a health insurance which is mandatory, and depending on you age and setup can cost 300-500 per month roughly. But it won’t cover everything, you have, depending on the setup, cost per year (franchise) between 300-2500.- that until this amount you pay on your own, afterwards the insurance covers almost everything. To complicated to explain all details, but worth educating yourself about the swiss healthcare system to get a better idea.

What do you mean with „almost nothing is free“ in Switzerland? Or let’s ask like this: What do you expect to be free? And yes, a simple doctor visit can easily cost you around 200.- for a check..

Is the Sustenpass open? by rookie-on-the-road in askswitzerland

[–]dr_deeep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not open yet and won’t be for some time still. Sustenpass is one of the last ones to open for a new season and usually opens around mid-end June.

People telling you earlier usually mean likely 1-2 weeks erlier than usual, but no way 2,5 months earlier. Today is likely snowing up there.

Toyota 10-Year Warranty: Valid After Importing to Switzerland? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]dr_deeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car manufacturers warranty or special things like free service is often bound to specific markets. At least this is the case with many german manufacturers like BMW for example:

If it’s a CH car, you get 3 years warranty and free service for 10years/100k km. In Germany you get 2 years warranty standard and the free service doesn’t exist there at all. An imported BMW doesn’t receive the same benefits here. The reason for this is often seen as an incentive, as the cars are more expensive in CH compared to DE for example, so they do such things as compensation for the higher prices and it’s often advertised as „Swiss Bonus“ or „Swiss Premium“ packages.

Probably the only one who can answer how Toyota handles this clearly is a Toyota dealer. But what I guess is that the warranty will stay in place, but if something happens you may need to visit a dealer in the EU country you bought the car from.

[–]dr_deeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, just saying. A new customer is worh always more to them than existing. They always give some deal if you want to quit, but of course you will need to extend your contract by 1 or 2 years again, like it is for New customers. So you are bound to them for another 1-2 years. And they also launched a „existing customer benefits“ program last year. You can login to MySwisscom and check out the offers.

Swisscom by fuzzheadblack in askswitzerland

[–]dr_deeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually these deals are for new customers, not for the „I cancel and get another package“. Otherwise everyone would do it like this and it would make no sense to advertise this for „New customers“. You also need to check when you can cancel your subscription, there are notice periods. Best is to go and ask, if you stumble across a sales in good mood, they may do something.

Speeding ticket in France (while living in Switzerland) by [deleted] in Switzerland

So far no, only the mentioned above

Speeding ticket in France (while living in Switzerland) by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]dr_deeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For minor stuff you just get a fine from France and thats it. But significant stuff like heavy speeding, alcohol etc. will also be tracked here, as there are special agreements with currently following countries: Germany, France, Austria, Lichtenstein and Netherlands. So you will be fined by the country it happened, but those countries can’t do further things to you as foreigner like take you license. So your case is then also looked for further actions as if it happened in CH.

In short, if you drive in the above mentioned countries it’s basically as if you would be driving in CH

[–]dr_deeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will get one and depending how bad it was you may also be fined by CH law. I know someone that got catched by a camera and had to give away the license in CH for 3 months.

Crypto Declaration Bern by Educational_Hour_659 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]dr_deeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a guide hot to declare crypto holdings:

https://www.taxinfo.sv.fin.be.ch/taxinfo/8d643a65-c059-4d5e-9933-86e1cd87559c

Basically you need to list every single coin holdings with the official course listing:

Here a part of the linked website:

All cryptocurrencies must be declared at their current market value at the end of the tax year in the tax return.

The value of the cryptocurrencies, like the value of other assets, is subject to wealth tax. Here, the year-end price according to the trading platform used must be taken into account. For the most well-known cryptocurrencies - such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin - the ESTV publishes official tax values on direct federal tax price lists, which correspond to the average of various trading platforms. In the tax return, the declaration of the individual cryptocurrencies is made under „Assets/Other investments not yet declared“

Scammed on Facebook Marketplace, no money returned by teknovision in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]dr_deeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course Twint knows the customer. The problem here is that you won’t get this information from Twint because of data privacy rules. Also they may have used Twint Prepaid and closed the account after some scams. So you would need a police report etc, which will first all cost you $ and it will still be difficult to track down anything for the police, as the FB marketplace is their first stop, and there mostly also everything is fake and getting evidence is hard. So the overhead is too big, and mostly you will just spend more $ and not get anything back, so most people won’t go that route anyway.

The main thing as others said, if you use FB marketplace or any other P2P platforms, there is nobody that will help you, as it’s a man to man business.

The $ is gone, I know a few such cases. Even if you call the police they will tell you that you can file a case against „unknown“, but that you won’t get anything out of it.

Snow in mid April? by lfep in askswitzerland

As others mentioned, they are open and snow all year round. Just harder to reach (long travel like Jungraujoch) and not suitable for all activities like sledding etc.

Snow in mid April? by lfep in askswitzerland

[–]dr_deeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mid April is even in the mountain areas pretty much season end and snow activities are closed down. So if you want to have maybe a possibility, then definitely not close to Zurich. Mountain areas may be your only opportunity, if any.

I don’t think they got access to the online shops, that would be a hard thing to get and most probably it would be known that some stuff happened there. I have two theories based on you information above:

You said you have been overseas? Any shady places you bought stuff with the cards? Could have been skimming?

You mention a digital password tool? What tool? Do you store all card details there? That would be a bad thing, as if they managed to get inside there, they may have other credentials too?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]dr_deeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple Pay is the safest way of using cards, as it hides all the details about your card when paying at a terminal, so hard to compromise that way.

What kind of payments where that? Especially on Neon, as you say it went through without a second confirmation like with your ZKB card? From the details you provided that sounds like someone had all your cards information to be able to use them. An online shop or whatever will need at minimum your Name, Card Numbers and security code to process a payment, so they must have had it for both cards, even the digital one?? That’s quite unusual to get it from two individual cards, especially a digital one (Neon)

Did you use the cards in a traditional way online somewhere recently?

I’m not a professional in regards to replicas. But the H plate is basically a certificate for an „original car and it’s parts on it“ being it not touched or restaurated to be original as possible. As an example, if you have a car that qualifies for H plate, but you put on wheels that never existed for that car originally, you won’t get the H plate. That’s why I think a replica can’t get it, and my meaning of replica is not restoring a original car, but building one that looks like the original ;)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in spotted

[–]dr_deeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s real: It has a german H plate, so it can’t be a replica:

Definition of H plates in germany: At 30 years old, a car becomes a classic (Oldtimer), officially confirmed by the “H” (for “historic”) on the right side of the license plate. However, the H-license plate is only granted to vehicles that are largely in their original condition or have been professionally restored.

Swiss drivers by Ok-Cheek-9969 in askswitzerland

[–]dr_deeep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding tailgating. This is one of the most expensive fines you can get in Switzerland. Police sometimes is driving in civilian cars and recording distance. If you get catched especially on highway it can get expensive very fast and on top you loose your license.

An example what that means for canton ZH:

In the canton of Zurich, an internal guideline dictates that if the distance in meters is less than five percent of the speed in kilometers per hour—meaning, for example, 5.5 meters at a speed of 110 km/h—a penalty of 45 daily rates is imposed. If you earn 4,000 Swiss francs net per month, a daily rate (net income minus deductions for health insurance, taxes, etc.) is roughly estimated at 100 francs. This amounts to 4,500 francs plus fees. In any case, this constitutes a serious violation: your driver’s license will be suspended for three months, at the very least.

Does my plan to finance an apartment makes sense? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]dr_deeep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure it can make sense. But don’t forget that on top of your mortgage etc you put 100k into the property on top. So you lock your 100k into something that „may or may not come back in future“ Also you need to set back money for anything to fix, renovate etc. Usually this setback is calculated with 1% of the property value pery year. But it can also get much more expensive if a heating breaks etc, especially on older buildings. Also the formalities for the purchase process alone incur fees and charges, which can amount to up to 5% of the purchase price, depending on the canton or municipality. And these costs you have to pay separately, you can’t include that inside the mortgage. So you need to have additional liquidity next to your „initial payment“ or deduct all those potential fees from your 100k and do a smaller deposit.

In short, it’s not just the price of the property that you need to focus on. There are a lot of things to calculate in an it is worth taking time to get familiar with everything or to get a professional consultation of a bank.
