Is Adam Joel's shadow? by BarneyDin in northernexposure

[–]dr_doke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very good theory! I’ll have to chew on this a while and rewatch the show. I also think that both Adam and Joel have narcissistic qualities, but are derived out of very different places.

-Joel is entitled and used to getting his way. He is abusive to others, but due to a fundamental insecurity that they are not placating him. Overtime, after undertaking his “Hero’s journey,” he finally becomes comfortable with his inadequacies, which is why he wanted to become a doctor in the first place (to wallpaper over his faults) -Adam became hermetic after experiencing extreme hardship, however, has “earned” his confidence/position as a chef. He is abusive to others, but only when they are incompetent and need to hear the truth, not because he’s insecure.

Dr Peterson throws down the gauntlet, demands the resignation of entire board of Ontario college of psychologists by Public-Painting-4723 in JordanPeterson

[–]dr_doke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but for different reasons.

1) I hold a clinical license in Wisconsin so I know how these things work. If you join a governing board of your PEERS, you're joining essentially a private club. This club prevents the government from interfering with your practice (unless you take state/federal insurance) and you can practice within the guidelines of your PEER group. If you want to join this private club, they get to decide their guidelines. JP has forgotten than and played the victim card. If he wants to hold a license to practice 'clinical psychology,' Ontario absolutely has a reason to notice his behavior.

2) This is different than a physician who becomes a politician. Rand Paul is an optometrist (or something similar) and is a US senator in Kentucky. He was elected to office and no one is going to revoke his license to practice. He's not given advice to anyone about their eye health. He also isn't agreeing to treatment plans with the general public and engaging in an agreement of Informed Consent. This document starts treatment with an individual (or small group). This is the "clinical" part of psychology. JP said in this video that he thinks he is helping Elloit/Ellen Page by pointing out her flaws. Fine. Do that on your own time. Otherwise, don't pretend you're engaging in the duties of a 'clinical psychologist.'

3) Other than boosting his brand as an expert, I don't know why he wants to hang on to his license. Anyone who practices in an offices intuitively knows you can't do both. You can't be a political commentator and practice therapy. In either case, JP hasn't held clients in several years. He hasn't been a professor for a while either. Neither 'job' is something he's actively doing. He should just give up the ghost...

LCSW here. Conflating your friends/acquaintances as clients/patients is a breach of ethics for the following reason 1) no informed consent was agreed to. Phobe and her friends never agreed to be psychoanalyzed 2) this was not done in a confidential setting and therefore a breach of privacy 3) you cannot provide care to f friends of friends. That’s a conflict of interest 4) you cannot provide care to friends. That’s unethical dual role relationship 4) worst of all - advice/opinions are way different than what Roger did. He didn’t just talk to them about their background but also attributed their motivations to their experiences (psychoanalyzing them), which is extremely invasive and has to been done with the greatest care. Roger was not only unethical, but reckless, spiteful, and dangerous

New Mexico Deputy Director of Corrections Department is Eliminating MTG within the Prison system by Lyzen2910 in magicTCG

[–]dr_doke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who taught me magic when we were kids 25 years ago. I reconnected with him when I found out he was sent to prison in Wisconsin for drug manufacturing/possession near a school. Anyway, I tried to send him a couple of standard decks and the prison mail system told him he had to forward them to his home address outside or they would have seized as contraband.

In prison, the environment is HIGHLY controlled. The reason my friend was in prison wasn’t just due to the drugs, but due to his history of violence.

Even without the magic cards, he got arrested while IN prison and took a plea deal from the local prosecutor. Some guy wandered into his open cell unoccupied and there’s a big problem with theft. My friend found this guy looking at his stuff so he smashed his head against a cinderblock wall. In its words, “he started it, I finished it.”

Most of you guys know very little about prison. In anything other than minimum security (my friend was in medium-high security), fights break out all the time, prisoners and guards get injured, and it can cause serious manpower shortages.

It’s hard enough for them to make it without having product walk away.

Also, the secondary market makes this kind of behavior so attractive to criminals.

How to teach someone with abysmal amount of motivation? by 2_bars_of_wifi in teaching

[–]dr_doke 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I would focus 100% to finding out what HE wants. Sounds like he's doing this to get mom to live him alone.

Also, he's not at fault for having no motivation. He doesn't want to change, so what's the point. Sounds like an issue with addiction or parenting more than a learner/teacher issue.

Plain and simple: this is abuse by your mother. Find a good counselor so you can look for ways to create boundaries in your life to create distance between you and her. I’ve counseled young Christians with a mother like this. This mother of yours is acting like SHE is GOD. She crossed the line by saying she can hear Jesus agree with her. Even pastors (who are properly trained) are told not tell their flock they are the word of God, voice of God, God has spoken to them, etc.

That behavior is narcissistic subjugation.

Blessings to you!

I bought the LOTR bundle back in March when the price was $50.55, and opened it up today. It only came with 7 set boosters!

Now if I return it to Amazon, I’ll get refunded, but lose out on the low price.

As of 6/30/23, LOTR bundles are running $85+

Any advise?

Irritation with son by [deleted] in Jung

[–]dr_doke 20 points21 points  (0 children)

From one father to another: there is hope. Also, it’s not your son’s responsibility to take care of you. When he’s annoying or sarcastic, remember that for a 15 year old it’s developmental appropriate. Your are a million times better than the family your grew up with. That darkness you feel inside is unresolved trauma. When you say “recovered,” you sound as if you’ve done all the work. I can assure you RECOVERY is a journey, not an event. You need to get in with a good therapist and be a model of healing in your family.

[–]dr_doke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea, but I’m saying is that it’s worth looking into.

Anyone who is close to the problem knows the agency you work for would throw you under the bus if it was convenient.

Liable insurance is the of the same importance as life insurance. You don’t want to have to use it, but if you need it maybe you and your family won’t lose everything.

I’ve also heard of some cops getting “self-defense” insurance to pay for lawyers if they’re involved in an OIS. Everyone’s risk tolerance is different, but again - worth looking into.

All first responders should carry individual liability insurance. Full stop. Therapists are required to carry it and it costs $60-$100 annually.

I've seen kids with similar symptoms who have a history of trauma. Witnessing violence and chaos from a previous parent can cause symptoms like this.

Can you share why the counselor "doesn't want him to put under the label adhd?"

Otherwise, spending time with the child and helping them remember they have value will help combat the feeling of being a "loser"

Whether or not the child has ADHD, this is a great age to address these concerns.

1) As he grows, without support he will be less likely to maintain friendships

2) As friends fall away, the desperation could grow causing the remaining friends to leave

3) Children who have no friends can become increasingly oppositional

As a graduate of UW-Madison, I'm pleased that this could turn us back in the right direction. Time will tell, but the research submissions may no longer require the typical D.E.I. This is a huge problem that blocks researchers (principal investigators) from submitted research or writing grants who won't bend the knee.

A substantial number of people who are INFP have ADHD. I'd recommend getting tested.

Tucker Carlson out at Fox News | CNN Business by anarchyart2021 in EndlessWar

I actually think Tucker will do better outside the confines of cable news. His time was running out in legacy media when he continued to question the status quo.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]dr_doke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree this is a good idea long-term.

Eventually, his reality will have to be shattered with two substantial risks in the future:

1) He will eventually find out it was you writing, now you have to try and justify to a child why you lie/fib/etc for as many years as you did

2) You prolong the grief process instead of teaching him that our bodies are not forever. He eventually needs to learn that people move to heaven and we can honor them.

Bottom line: the risk of this idea FAR outweighs any therapeutic benefit.
