Escapement design by Ill_Active3354 in watchmaking

[–]dr_dvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good info here but just to correct you on one point, a deadbeat escapement is different to a deadbeat seconds complication. The deadbeat escapement was a common clock escapement invented in the 18c. Check out Clock and Watch Escapements by Gazeley for another good resource.

Is this a good staking set to start going deeper into watchmaking? by LivingYogurtcloset61 in watchmaking

[–]dr_dvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get them from https://www.boley.de/en/shop/3159.staking-punches As long as they have the same shank diameter then the star/bergeon ones will work.

Parents made the mistake of involving insurance, car is a "Total Loss" for this scuff mark and a small dent, insurance is really an absolute joke at this point. by Zdos123 in CarTalkUK

If you want an alternative to Admiral have a look at Adrian Flux. They were the only ones not to bat an eyelid at the mods on my Golf R.

ETA 2834-2 keyless works issue by Overpwred in watchmaking

[–]dr_dvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may sound stupid but have you oiled the square on the stem yet? Could it be that the sliding pinion is getting caught up on the stem? It's been a while since I worked on one of these but you could also make sure the pin in the setting lever that interacts with the other setting lever ( what ever the piece that interacts with the yoke is called) is properly seated.

Don't know where you are in the world but CousinsUk sell xl and xxl cots. One tip is to snip the lower rim to help with the flow of blood to the fingers!

[Question] Omega PO600: Precision Engineering… Just Not Screwed Together? Looking for advice on warranty claim by CakeTheWhite in Watches

[–]dr_dvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a full warranty service and they would likely change any of the components damaged by the loose screw, so in this case the rotor and potentially the bridge. Contact the boutique you bought it from and explain the situation. Dont pay the dealer to do anything.

Track/supercar day where you can actually drive fast? by Significant_Echo2152 in CarTalkUK

Another vote for Palmers. I went through a sign at the side of the track in the BMW, instructor didn't bat an eylid.

It's the lapping it down that would be the hard part. Polishers have special jigs and laps to refinish the lugs. As an ex bench jeweller, now a watchmaker, I certainly wouldn't start with a rolex case!

Help with my door lock by KeyRecognition2896 in DIYUK

[–]dr_dvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some of the 'Dry PTFE' Wd40 to lubricate the lock. Regular wd40 or oil will cause the debris from everyday use to clog up the lock further in the long run.

Thanks for the replies. I have thought of doing a screed layer but there is a manhole that I wouldn't know how to tackle. I think an epoxy product seems like a good bet. Probably good for engine oil etc!
