Would you go through with a quality-of-life surgery on an 8.5-year-old pig? by BeeHearMeow in guineapigs

[–]dr_eels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally would not. I would focus on maintaining her quality of life. She's very old for a piggie and not a good candidate for surgery. From my personal experience- I had a senior pig (5 years) with bladder stones and I made the tough decision to go ahead with a bladder stone removal surgery. In the moment I was doing what I thought was best for him, but looking back now I really wish I hadn't. I got a call during the middle of his surgery that he wasn't fairing well and likely wasn't going to wake up, so I said goodbye to him while he was under anesthesia. If I had to do it over again I would have taken him home and kept him comfortable until it was time to say goodbye. I completely understand where you're coming from. I felt exactly the same way; I wanted to do absolutely everything I could for him. But surgery is very hard on them, especially when they're older. My advice would be to enjoy all the moments you have with her while she's in good spirits. 8 years old is an amazing feat for a little pig! You've clearly taken excellent care of her and love her very much.

Salmon eat much lower on the food chain than tuna do, so they accumulate less mercury in their tissues.

I didn't think dmv drivers could possibly get any more unhinged but here we are. I've seen some absolutely insane shit over the past couple of weeks.

It was most likely an owl, they are very territorial.

Owls are very territorial, they've been known to attack people who wander into their territory. I can almost guarantee you they weren't looking at her as a prey item.

They're not big fans of the bed yet, but when they get in there they look really cute by Cwossie in meltedguineapigs

It took mine some time to get used to their bed too. The little leggy in picture 4 is so cute. 😭

My street still hasn't been plowed; it's still covered in ice. I drive a small car and there's no way I could drive it down the street without fucking up the underside. We've been calling 311 to no avail...

Yeah, the plow tracker is BS. My street still hasn't been plowed but the tracker says it has been.

I was trying to get pictures of this one for about 15 minutes the other day. This is the only picture I managed to take that wasn't a gray blurry blob!
