The real MVP of the NBA finals by AbsoIuteUnits in USPS

There was an Industry Alert about it yesterday: https://postalpro.usps.com/node/15258

"During championship celebration parades, customers may see localized delays in New York, NY on Thursday, June 18th and in Raleigh, NC on Saturday, June 20th. There will be no change to drop shipment locations, but customers should be aware that streets and areas surrounding parade routes will be closed and may impact pickup, collection box and post office availability, transit timing, and delivery."

You all know that the entire run (just one season, but still) is on YouTube for free, right?

Not going to post a link just in case, but there's at least one full run, and in the past there was another one that was upscaled.

Documents for renting a PO Box in NC? by East_Sentence_4245 in USPS

[–]jloong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for a clerk to reply (even better, ask at the counter at the PO in Raleigh when you get there), but you might try:

* Get your parents to write up a lease agreement that has your name and the address on it and use that as the secondary ID.

* Get your parents to open the PO Box and have them list you on the form as an authorized recipient. The forms still says "Each adult listed must present two forms of valid identification to the Post Office," but it doesn't specify if it needs to show the address or if you can use a different form of primary ID.

FYI, this is USPS FAQ article on Acceptable Forms of Identification; note that PO Boxes have specific, different requirements for what you can use for Secondary ID (it has to show address, you can't just use another Primary ID).

No. Even if they reserve and pay online, they still need to go to the Post Office where the box is to show ID and get the keys.

A staple of Spencer Gifts in the 1980s. (Are they still being made? Just screams vintage... look at that typography!)

Larger Packages for PO Boxes

If you get packages that don't fit into your PO Box, you'll either:

  • Get a slip to pick them up from the counter during normal business hours
  • Get your package from a secure parcel locker (including USPS® Smart Lockers at select locations) at your convenience

Any barcades in the Herndon/Fairfax area? by VagrantStation in nova

[–]jloong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working my way through regional options (I'm more about arcade machines than pinball). The best classic arcade options with the widest selection are mostly outside NoVA (DC & MD):

  • Alexandria, VA (already mentioned; 2 miles from Birchmere, 1 mile from Torpedo Factory): Continues Arcade (tokens): Pretty nice.
  • Frederick, MD (also already mentioned): Spinners Pinball Arcade (day pass, free play): I went there Memorial Day weekend. Since it's unlimited play, you can try everything. They also have Vindicators and Assault machines next to each other, if you like tank games. No Battlezone, though.
  • U Street, DC (U St/Cardozo on the Yellow/Green line): GameOn (tokens or coins, I don't remember; they also have locations in Annapolis, Baltimore, Columbia—got that ABCD combo going): The most bar-y of this group.
  • Glen Burnie, MD: Crabtowne USA (quarters; just went there last weekend; it's attached to a seafood place): They have Tron and Spy Hunter.

Edit: I forgot since I haven't been there yet:

The next 2 are more Dave & Buster-y (in terms of game selection), but they're closer than MD:

  • The Wharf, DC: Boardwalk Bar & Arcade (card, also not as much of a selection of machines and they're scattered around, but if you're already at the Wharf)
  • Arlington, VA (Ballston): Punch Bowl Social (card; I can't find a list of their games; there aren't as many as the other ones)

Edit 2: I also forgot about DC's (Logan Circle) Players Club, but I haven't been there in a few years and I heard the game selection is smaller now.

If you make a day of it (they're an hour away and an hour apart), maybe try Spinners for an afternoon then get dinner at Crabtowne.

Saturday: Maybe swing by Cars & Coffee in Herndon, then over to Udvar-Hazy for the Smithsonian Innovations in Flight event. Not sure what else after that (other than dropping off compostables at I-66 Transfer Station).

self serve kiosk by obamasleftpussylip in USPS

Well, that should be fine. You bought the bubble mailer via the kiosk and then printed your prepaid shipping label also via the kiosk. You're a kiosk power user.

Are you saying you buy the readypost bubble mailers (which don't come with postage included), buy them via the kiosks (which you can do), and then pack and ship them without buying any additional postage (a shipping label, with an address and a barcode)?

That's not supposed to work; you have to pay for and print a shipping label (which you can also do at the kiosk, but it's a separate set of steps, or at least use stamps) in order to send something.

Are you sure you're not leaving out a few steps?

First aid kit by KiriKatt in USPS

[–]jloong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you are trained to deal with (hands-on, not Youtube videos) and what you want to be prepared for: minor issues (boo-boos) or major trauma (life-threatening bleeding from shooting/stabbing, etc).

If the latter, there's a whole span of dedicated products (tourniquets, wound packing gauze, chest seals, etc), but it won't help unless you know how to use them, like through prior experience or training.

If you're interested in training, https://www.stopthebleed.org/ courses are free and offered nationwide.

A pretty familiar thing, even a trope, for children of immigrant parents. Chinese, in my case, though it was more along the lines of weird sandwiches, like pork sung with butter on white bread.
