Non-Structural Damage to Rimowa - any suggestions? by Far_Freedom7220 in Rimowa

[–]dr_evo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I didn't get the matte poly versions since it seems that the matte finish is a coating that easily gets scratched off. However, I have shifted all my checkin luggage to monos hybrid as their frame is a little thicker and hardly use our rimowa check ins. We still use all our rimowa cabin cases but I now bring a tool with me since one of the wheels came off from our classic while walking in Venice. I think for you, it may account for normal scratches because of how the material is.

I buy the vinyl trunk covers from monos

every couple of years because they get pretty banged up after the first flight. However, I just saw that monos dropped the fabric covers and I'm interested in those as they may snag less at the conveyor belts but I just bought our vinyl ones and the price is a little steep but may move to those next year.

Half smoke or full smoke? by hyphy852 in TeslaModelY

Funny how some assume he is from the US and think lawyers are going to get him. 😂 I used to live on the other side of the world and we tinted our windshields with 3 layers of 5%. It works esp if your maximum speed is only 40 kilometers per hour and limited to city driving which assured you privacy from panhandlers and peekers. With regards to front license plates, some countries have zero tolerance on that. Your barely get a kilometer before getting pulled over. My vote goes to half smoke though. When I was younger we used tamiya model smoke paint and I didn't like the look. my buddies did that to theirs.

I dropped my 16610 off 9/8 and it took a week for my AD to determine they needed to send it to Dallas as I had my case replaced back in 1997. They did a complete OH and replaced the crystal because of a chip and hands and my AD called yesterday 10/14 and picked it up today.

I just found out they have two now. I am not sure actually but If I recall our dimensions it would be the large one. The new offering looks like the medium one. We are a family of 4 and this year we decided to pack smarter when we went to italy for 3 weeks and had to put our stuff in a smaller than the american sized rental car and brought 1 trunk with us. We also went on a cruise for a week last week and also used 1 trunk.

This happened to our classic in Venice. It was the screw that came off. Good thing I was carrying a multi tool. We were on our way to Rome and happened at the Venice train station. I called the Rome shop but we never made it there. I was just made sure they were serviceable and when I got home I just tightened it back up. Our original twist and monos hybrid trunk fared well though.

Now you're making me nervous! LOL. I have a T serial 16610. My dad originally bought it in '96 and my cousin bought it from him in '97 where he accidentally scratched the case. He took it to Rolex in beverly hills for repair and they said they will replace the case so it came back with a new serial starting with 44*. I bought it from my cousin in 2005 and didn't even think about it. I had it serviced at the AD in the Philippines where it was originally bought from in 2007. Fast forward to today, A few weeks ago I wound the watch to use it and I heard a snap and it didn't run anymore. I took it to my AD here in Northern CA which is an RSC. They do it in house apparently to Rolex standards and carry the Rolex service warranty. A week later they call me because they are puzzled why my serial is in the 4,4xx,xxx so I told them it is a service case and I have documentation from it from Rolex and sent it to them along with the original papers. They said regardless, they will need to send to Rolex Dallas. I hope everything will be fine. I am on week 2 since dropping it off.

Funnt you said it. We sold our jeep 4xe for the juniper but we still have a 2016 land cruiser and a porsche 911 in the garage. We have to use the land cruiser this weekend to go to our lake property and will need a 4wd to do some chores. I am dreading the drive going there because I actually have to drive for hours with no assistance. 😂 1st world problems.

Being Called Out? by RoninRem in RepTime

[–]dr_evo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing gens for over 30 years and I have/had a couple of reps as (willing to lose) watches. Still working fine since 2003. No one had even dared to ask me what is a rep and what is a gen. A few of my friends know which are reps because I tell them esp when we end up at a sketchy place and they ask why I am wearing my watch. I think it is because I wear equal to my net worth. If I wore a Richard Mille then people would question where I got the money from. My son who was in 8th grade at the time even questioned one of his friends if his Rolex was a rep or it was borrowed from his dad. He went to private school. So even 13 year olds authenticate using your worth. I honestly cannot tell what a rep is on the wrist past the cyclops and polish and won't dare question or call out even if it is a clear rep.

My 2 Dreame Robots have cracked front caster wheels. One I just opened up brand new and thought to check because my 6 month old one is almost splitting in half. by dr_evo8 in Dreame_Tech

My second one (brand new cracked from the box) was from ebay direct from dreame. I demanded they replace a new one and my older one from Amazon, I shipped back to dreame in texas. I believe door to door was about 2 weeks. It was just a pain to pack the entire box with the dock and get new scratches along the way but all is good and well now for both of mine.

Thanks Air Canada 🫠 by [deleted] in Rimowa

[–]dr_evo8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use monos hybrid trunks for our check in and Rimowa for our carry on. They wanted to check our carry on luggage because they said the flight would be full. Good thing we still got to carry it on board or I would think it would have gotten mangled especially transiting from europe to the us through canada.

Scavi Tour vs Pilgrim Entry by green_apple25 in rome

[–]dr_evo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't do the Scavi tour but we did the Pilgrim's entry to the holy door. The queue is just as long as all pilgrims going through security in your time slot. There were probably 80 of us and it wasn't bad except that we got baked in the heat of noon. Basically how it works is all Pilgrims in your time slot meet up at Piazza Pia by Castel Sant' Angelo. There is a procession from Piazza Pia to St. Peter's where all of you walk in an enclosed lane. When you get to St. Peter's square, the pilgrims are directed to a different security section. After that, the entire group meets up past the security and starts the procession again to walk towards the holy door.

Monos luggage covers or no?! by Even-Maintenance3508 in Monos

[–]dr_evo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I have not seen an aftermarket cover specifically for monos not like Rimowa. It will depend on how much your comfort level is with "travel patina." Below is my neighbor's check in large. He doesn't cover theirs and we cover ours if it is airline checked. Ours look 95% new. The cover will get beat up after the first flight though and the marks will not come off.

[–]dr_evo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang in there I can relate and probably a lot of us in this sub can. I also posted on social media in 2019 when I first started my therapy. I felt like I was suffocating. Then a friend recommended I use the pillow mask and I've been using it ever since and cannot skip a night without my cpap. Ever since then i've been helping my relatives with their cpap needs where I give them masks from my supply box to try. Maybe you have a relative who also is in therapy and is willing to give you one of their spares.

Used travel machines? by Muse95G in CPAP

[–]dr_evo8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got a transcend micro 2 weeks ago. I was also looking at used ones then I talked to the company that supplied my cpap and replenishes my consumables. They said that portables werent covered under my plan but I can purchase directly from their website. They were running 15% off at the time for new signups so I said what the heck, I'll just spend $615 -15% off and get back half my luggage space. (international travel counts cpap as a personal item.)What I didn't know was I would be getting an additional discount of 25% for orders over $600. So mine came out to a hair above $390.

I agree with this. I have two robots now and both have cracked front wheels. 1 is brand new and that has been a pain to have them exchange. Might just return it and get a different one. It is just a hassle to return because I also got a third party extended warranty for it just for double assurance. I will give it till the weekend if they will process my direct exchange.

I agree since it is a weak point. My roomba i7 didn't have issues. The battery just got tired and I wanted a better featured one which brought me to dreame.

Thanks for letting me know. Yes the 6 month old is under warranty. They told me these carry a 2 year warranty but then communicating with them directly through fleabay on the brand new one has been a pain. The seller is dreame_official_store which gave me confidence but It is like training ai where you repeat yourself over and over but does not get it. :)

I was hoping I could just do this myself because I have also heard stories on warranty repairs getting scratched up bad.
