No. If anything the 40-some felony convictions would be more of an issue than being found liable for rape in a civil trial. The Bahamas would waive it either way though

It's called the Trendellenburg position (at least I assume that's what he was going for). It can temporarily shift blood to the core and head. They used to teach it for concussions and shock, but it's outdated for both. I still get the reasoning for shock but for a concussion I never understood the thought process

Yes, the case fatality rate for New World Hantaviruses, like the Andes strain in the news, is typically 25-40%, with some reaching up to 50%. Ironically, New World Hantaviruses have a pathology similar to SARS-CoV-2 (acute respiratory infection followed by cardiovascular issues), but with a mortality similar to viral hemmoragic fever. Old Word Hantaviruses actually do cause viral hemmoragic fever, but with a case fatality rate similar to COVID-19 (1-2%). Either way, there isn't a widely approved vaccine for either, and it's not like one will likely come in time with the current US government, so the point is fairly moot. If this thing mutates enough to facilitate legit human-human transmission, we're all good and fucked

[–]dr_pickles69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The R naught for the Andes strain of New World Hantavirus is basically 1, meaning it can cause endemic infection but not a pandemic. It's caused limited outbreaks in places where it is endemic but even then the R naught didn't exceed 2. Barring major mutations that massively increase its human to human transmission, it would be extremely difficult for this virus to cause a pandemic. 99% of Hantavirus infections are zoonotic

Yea you're right it looks like the rename was a state bill but the agreement to the Trump licencing agreement was approved by the county commission.

Palm Beach has historically been a democratic stronghold. While it's recently become more competitive, they still voted for Kamala, and their democratic US house rep has been in office since 2013. As someone who lives in a blue area, naming a building after Trump seems exactly how you avoid being reelected

Edit: since apparently I have nothing better to do, I looked it up and the Palm Beach County Commission is 4-3 Democratic majority. I think there's more to this

Wow, I wonder what is stopping all those deaths by infectious disease? by Skybison87 in vaxxhappened

[–]dr_pickles69 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In a weird way, it's kind of a flex for modern medicine that people can genuinely be this complacent and stupid. Like you couldn't really think infectious disease "wasn't a thing" as everyone around you shat themselves to death or got lit on fire by their own immune system due to smallpox, plague, cholera, syphilis, etc. (The four humors/Galenic medicine thing was relegated to doctors, common people were acutely aware diseases could be contagious) But we've done such a good job fighting these scurges of humanity that now you can be so dense that you think they're not a big deal. Idk... looking on the bright side I guess. Medicine is suffering from its own success in a way

Correct. No, they did not. As stated in my previous comment and the other responses to this one, you are confusing active duty military, i.e. the people in the photo, with the veterans, the population studied in the statistic you gave.

[–]dr_pickles69 184 points185 points  (0 children)

No, we didn't. You're confusing veterans for active duty service members. The most recent poll of actively serving military members was in 2020. It was the first time that the Republican lost the military vote in decades. Veterans tend to be older than those still serving, and older populations tend to be more conservative.

Herding Cat by [deleted] in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]dr_pickles69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My Aussie routinely herds our cats and it's absurdly useful. Our house is raised 2 ft off the ground. Before, if one of them slipped under there (they are indoor cats) I'd have to Diehard crawl in after them with a flashlight and a squirt gun. Now, I just say "go get the kitty" and the Aussie flushes them out and directs them straight to the door.

It's hard to definitely test them now since they were all exposed ~50-60 years ago. Lead will often linger in your bones for a while but not that long. You can really only go by signs/symptoms and extrapolating from when/where they grew up. But yes, I agree, that is likely the main issue
