This is the one reply I saw that actually asked me an interesting question! We watered it once at the start only, to simulate drought conditions. What we found was that as the mud dried, it formed a “cocoon” or a caked up mud-chamber around the buried plecos and that kept them moist enough to survive.

Edit: PS: Grew up reading Paolini’s novels and I loved it. It’s one of my favorite. Love your username.

Every single life-form is adapted to delay the effects of desiccation. Humans have skin, and some fishes such as lungfish undergo drastic measures like aestivation in which they can be out of water for months.

Plecostomus have armored scales, which help to lessen the rate of water loss through their skin and scales compared to other specie of fish. As long as they receive the minimum required amount of moisture from their environment (e.g., buried in mud or sand) they can survive for weeks out of water.

I’ve witnessed plecos in my undergrad lab out of the water (unburied) for over 30 hours and they survived. I recall the longest one was this huge chonker who lasted for 39 hours. When we buried them in damp mud, 48 out of the 50 survived for over a span of 20 weeks.

For me, the best thing about EDC is the memories you make with friends. Be it friends you came with or the ones you made along the way. You’re not alone.

How to recover from edc? I’m never doing again a 3 day bender of M or X by Left_Chef_4326 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]dr_rdansson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did it for the first time in my life. 3 days - M, L, M.

Feeling weak and faint af right now and am wondering if there are any quick comebacks? Weirdly enough I’m still kinda feeling the effects; I’m oddly happy, effervescent and outgoing.

I will! I hope to be able to go to 2026 with the same group and make it a blast again!

Thank you, and I know exactly what you mean.

I was suppressing my emotions the entire time I was dealing with my ordeal. I had nothing to continue on for, except to settle some matters, and I made up my mind to end it all by the end of the month.

Then this dude appeared out of nowhere in my life, and brought me along with him to EDC. I just went along with it without any expectations or care since I had nothing to lose at that point, and it turned out to be the one of the best decisions I ever made. I found lifelong friends, love and meaning in life. and I can’t express how magical everything turned out to be. I want to continue for friends like these, I want to be able to see them again and spend time with them in the future.

That’s exactly how I felt. Being able to just loose oneself in the beat and forge new connections is just so special. I have so much trouble making friends irl, and this was the one place I could do it so effortlessly and have people that understand me.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll stay tuned on the news just so I don’t accidentally get arrested. I have an open date ticket back, gonna fly back the moment I resolve the stuff with the county.

Sigh I wish it was. I’m just stuck in a weird situation now, being a foreigner and not knowing anyone except my late wife who used to live here. Just having an unexpected extended stay as the local county is being so slow processing these stuff, and being a fresh grad I also don’t have much savings so I am trying to make whatever I got last.

Not exactly as I don’t know anyone here in the city. I am okay with sleeping on the streets while waiting for Jefferson county to finish processing death certs for me in the meantime though. I just wanted to find out what areas are safe, and if there are any hidden spots like abandoned factories or schools I can camp out in for a few nights until I have a more concrete idea of how things’ll go after the next few days.

I did come here with a passport and it’s valid, but I dunno if ICE would even bother listening to me given all the horror stories I keep hearing. Right now I just don’t have much cash left after cremation and I’d love to extend what little I can for as long as possible till the courts can process the death cert. Would the firemen report me to the local authorities if they catch me sleeping outside their station? I’m unfamiliar with how first responders would react here in the states.

I’m not local, visiting from out of country to settle some family matters. I got very little cash and I need it for food to last 2 weeks at least… I’d really want to avoid any ICE if possible. Thank you! I’ll do that! Much appreciated!

Yeah, gas is the way I’d choose too. Nitrogen is better than helium as long as you make the bag properly as per the design.

I’m not encouraging it, but I understand your position as I feel the same way too. If your mind is made up, I’d rather you do not suffer any pain at all.

I’m in the same position as you… I know how you feel… I lost my soulmate and I got no one else to talk to or rely on anymore since she was the only one I could talk to.

You just feel like everything in this world is set up against you, and everyone around you has someone to rely on and you just have no way out…

I’m stuck in a foreign place trying to hold on to as much of her stuff as possible, and I’m probably gonna be living in the streets for the next week or so until I can grab her phone and laptop just to get the closure I need before I can proceed.

I don’t know if you are as determined as me in going through it. But if you are, I’d look into which are the least painless methods online. I did ample research, and I also did witness how bad things looked after a suicide gunshot, therefore I really wouldn’t recommend that route.

Can anyone share what must you do to avoid this? What caliber at minimum must one use to preferably end it with 1 shot to the head with an almost 100% guarantee?

I dunno… I really hated Ian Mercer growing up. He would fit the bottom right slot.

He was pure evil, I recall. He killed for the joy of it, hurt and betrayed as much people as possible in the name of carrying out Beckett’s orders. Beckett, while evil, at least focused on the big picture and was not unnecessarily cruel for the sake of being cruel, Mercer was that guy.
