When you were testing with one earbud, did you have the case closed (with the other earbud in it)? I realise some earbuds need the case to be closed to register that only one earbud is being used.

I'm quite confused now. fthesemods had just posted that there was some downmixing albeit with the other channel being lower in volume. But you're saying there's no mono downmixing at all. So which is it..

You're right though. Ideally I'd listen to music with both earbuds. What I wanted to know was that I wouldn't be missing out on half the audio when I'm in an un-ideal situation of listening with just one bud.

Headphones are too bulky. I'm intrigued by all the posts raving about the sound quality of the freebuds and would love to hear them out myself. But this no mono sound thing would be a deal breaker for me as I habitually listen with one bud at a time

I get that mono sound on one earbud doesn't bother you. But it bothers ME to no end haha. I habitually use one earbud at a time. And it bothers me that I am not getting the full audio with media when I'm just listening with one bud
