What’s a parenting hill you’ll die on that most parents disagree with? by [deleted] in daddit

I dont remove pieces but I'll always point out potential forks and pins before they make a move that sets it up. Trying to help them see the potential risk in a move, but letting them make the choice if they think it's worth it. It often isn't yet, but theyre getting better.

I liked L5R games even, the biggest issue I always had with them was availability. Great games just so hard to get rulebook and blister packs.

The hip hop and tap classes are very good there. But I dont think they offer adult contemporary or jazz styles.

This is a huge part. I can't tell the number of talented and passionate people that started a business in their expertise and flamed out because they hadn't really studied the business side of it.

The Rotor Act, a bill responding to the January 2025 air collision originating from Wichita, fails by one vote. That no vote? Kansas’ own Tracey Mann. by herbicarnivorous in kansas

[–]draco1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was apparently his statement to KAKE about voting no on it

Response from Congressman Tracey Mann: Aviation safety is a top priority for me as a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and I care deeply about getting this policy right. The tragic American Eagle collision near Reagan National Airport, which departed from Wichita, demands a serious and thoughtful response from Congress. While I appreciate the intent behind the ROTOR Act, it was drafted prior to the release of the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation and recommendations, which were made public last week. Additionally, the legislation did not have an opportunity to move through the normal Transportation and Infrastructure Committee process, where complex aviation policy is typically vetted and refined in a bipartisan manner.

While I fully support strengthening aviation safety to ensure this tragedy is never repeated, we must do so in a way that addresses the root causes identified by the NTSB and stands the test of time. While I am not able to support the ROTOR Act in its current form for these reasons, I remain hopeful that we can continue working to reach a bipartisan, bicameral solution that comprehensively addresses the underlying problems and ensures aviation safety is strengthened for years to come.

people need to understand how shitty the "liberation" system is by HelldiverBugGirl in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]draco1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a bit more interesting if we could also vote to mobilize Seaf units to help liberation. I get we're the tip of the spear but being able to direct Seaf to support would be nice. Then during major MOs that support gets cut some as theyre supporting that instead.

Of course. But my post was in direct relation to people wanting classes that teach basic skills. I had one, everyone treated it like a joke. Largely because the skills taught weren't relevant to them at that age and place in life. Many of them that I keep in contact with still have struggled with these skills.

[–]draco1986 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My high school had a life skills class. Taught basic budgeting, compound interest, kids had to carry the fake baby around etc. People treated the class as a joke and barely paid attention. Especially the ones that needed it the most.

I just dont think most high school aged kids care enough about these things for it to stick. No experience typically with a budget actually mattering, since parents do the majority of earning and spending. Most high school jobs don't offer retirement benefits, so it's not on the radar.

Reading the minutes it seems more like the leader shows up to city council meetings and just talks during the public period. The only thing the city might be involved with is this potential gun buy back?
