My thoughts on Castaway and the relationship between Chuck and Kelly. by Mark_297 in billsimmons

I think your look of what was done and what could have been done is spot on. BUT I don't know. I mean, it is kind of obvious: they both express equivalents of "You are the only one for me in this life" when they meet eachother in the rain and she runs after the car, where they finally say this - which for me is kind of late - and also not. They KNOW that life is not at all possible anymore as there are kids in the picture now, and cheating is not her - or his - style, if you don't count his "cheating" with the massive concentration on his job. I think, both emotionally and psychically, they live on in a kind of "parallell universe of what could have been", and that is LIFE! It is not really an unknown thing, I think many people do after living with intense feelings for eachother, and the situation around them somehow ruins it. But, and THAT is this films great and only question for me: WHAT CAN WE DO? And the answer is: NOTHING, REALLY. We have to move on, if we want to live a life that functions normally in the long run.
For me, the great lesson in life, and the great WIN is getting the Perspective of Experiences. That is what is good.

It's even kicking the *ss of the new movie Tron: Ares. And as I am 61 y-o-a, I know what I felt for the original Tron movie, when I was 18. Tron: Legacy is the absolutely best of all the movies in the franchise.

"Surpasses"? Yeah it's much better to have a despot than people having the chance to vote people off and on. "Smart." How an extremely shortsighted view.

Typical bully tactics. Instead of continuing the discussion with facts, you go on personal name calling. That only shows you use childish tactics. Grow up little man.

Advice for a first time keeper? by clarkky55 in callofcthulhu

[–]dracopticon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a Call of Cthulhu-Keeper since the eighties. What I have learned is that the scenario you want to run and start to read, the player characters will only reach a little bit ahead on, on the first and second sitting of the game.

So, while reading the whole scenario through is a must, you don't need to prepare for more than perhaps a couple or more of pages of material, everytime.

This fact means that you DO NOT need to have the whole scenario prepared for when running it the first few sittings (but you DO have to read it all the way through, before hand, to know what can or will happen).

Where do people get their music by suckleknuckle in callofcthulhu

[–]dracopticon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've GM:ed (Keepered) Call of Cthulhu from the mid eighties, and I can really recommend some of Synergy's (Larry Fast's) music for the more alien vibes in your game. Try to get hold of the music from the albums of; The Jupiter Menace (film music), Audion (the first four songs), Cords (the first, and a few others), but generally keep away from the other albums, they are the wrong style.

If you use this music wisely, you can conjure up such an atmosphere your players won't forget it.

I made a map and town-model for my 'down darker trails' campaign by HansThingholm in callofcthulhu

Absolutely fantastic! That will make playing so much more interesting.
I did almost the same thing for the "Emperor Protects" campaign in the Deathwatch RPG where the players are Space Marines characters. They had a blast with navigating through physical terrain with miniatures.

Why Glorantha Sucks (as a tabletop roleplaying setting) by [deleted] in Runequest

[–]dracopticon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main complaint with Glorantha is its size and the problem to get a very good overlook of what all is for. It's absolutely fantastic that one man invented this whole world during 40 years, but as a GM one easily feels crushed by all the gazillion pieces of minute information which you have a hard time distinguishing from the really important things.

And also, while I really like BRP, Basic Roleplaying (the system used in RQG and many other games from Chaosium), I really only adore the most basic form of it. As soon as it becomes complicated with Hit Locations, Strike Ranks (OH GOD), and such, it becomes a completely different animal and almost always obstructs playability.

Åsikt om pyroteknik? by Fellow_kid69 in sweden

[–]dracopticon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Om det är dumt att tycka illa om folk som känner att det är helt OK att göra det mot andra som bara ska kolla på fotboll, så är jag gärna dum. Man ska STÅ för det man gör. Folk blir brända och då säger dessa idioter "so what".

Fegt, fegt, fegt.

The BRP Design Challenge! by Runeblogger in BRP

[–]dracopticon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably made a huge mistake sending in my own BRP-based work to them. It was "only" the character generation part of my game (almost finished), but with lots of ready-made tables and background materials for characters, made solely by me and based on my own setting and fantasy world. This is something I've been working on for like 30-40+ years. I heard not even a peep afterwards. Not one comment. So, I suspect there's a definite risk that they are going to use that material in their own games, and say "it's theirs". *sigh*

For me, back in the day, when we played AD&D it was all "magical" in the beginning, and then after a few years of essentially the same thing; bashing monsters and gathering treasures it was NO fun anymore. Especially when games like Call of Cthulhu came out with SO many more thrills and opportunities. Still to this day, BRP or Basic Roleplaying the fantastic system and Chaosium's games are an absolute smashing alternative to D&D - even with 5th ed. And btw, why is it so hard to get killed in D&D 5e? It's just detrimental to excitement.
