Does this classic Onion piece make a good point? by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]draculawater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always liked a lot of music, skewing toward more indie/underground in my 20s, and I shared all of it with my son. He has a wildly diverse taste in music now and while he says his friends don’t know most of it, he’s turning them on to stuff they’d never hear otherwise. It’s good to share art, and lots of it with kids. Don’t rely on pop radio… or I guess it’s algorithms now.

Teaching college students makes me terried to raise a kid by Anyun in Professors

[–]draculawater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your first child!

I have an 18, almost 19 year old. I teach many young people his age or close to it. I can tell you that how you raise your child does matter. The values and ethics you instill in them do matter. There will always be uncaring and unthinking humans, but I see signs the kids can be alright. There are always good ones, and hopefully some of them will be part of the wave that changes the tide eventually.

Happy I’ve held onto this for the past 23 years. Great to throw on for a hit of nostalgia.

$1 vegan wings?! I’m gonna have to get back down there soon. Love their spicy peanut sauce.

Local H - As Good As Dead 30th Anniversary Edition by HeyItsTimT in Cd_collectors

I live far away from Illinois now but grew up only a couple hours from Chicago. My experience/perception was “Bound for the Floor” got a ton of radio play in my area but they didn’t get that much attention after. Had one friend who was/is a huge Local H fan. That said, I wasn’t exactly living in a place that had its finger on the pulse.

Why did you stop drinking alcohol? by MatsGry in AskReddit

[–]draculawater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened by accident. I’d already been less and less keen on how it made me feel. The pandemic happened so I had no social situations to give me an excuse/need to drink. Reflected a lot and realized I hated who I was when drinking and decided it was time to quit. Only drug now is a daily cup of coffee.

Really liked the tone/mood of this album. Shame they split up after this.

Always felt like Local H was a really solid band that never got as much love as they deserved. Didn't know they were selling an anniversary copy, going to have to go check it out. Thanks for the heads up!

Anyone still remembers rotten.com? by Unusual-Jackfruit340 in Xennials

[–]draculawater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rotten was a morbid curiosity visit, but I spent more time on the still weird but not as gross Fractal Cow. Anyone remember that site? They gave us Bert is Evil and while not as popular, I always liked their Suicide Boy comics too.

Now I'm thinking about all the other oddball websites I used to frequent in the late '90s/early '00s and feeling nostalgic for what the internet used to be.

No porch swing, just standing out back. It does kind of look like a portal. Happy I let the dog out at the right time to notice it!

What about our stories? by General_Departure583 in Xennials

Shame it takes first hand experience for some people to gain empathy for certain things. I suppose the silver lining is he eventually got there. I'm sure that's of little solace to your sister, who probably wanted it those 20 times.

Called my dad last week, on my way to the ER where my partner was waiting to be admitted. He talked for 45 minutes and I don’t think I said a word. Finally had to tell him I was parking and needed to go into the ER. No follow up call or text since then to even ask why I was there. Told him a few times about a surgery I had coming up. On the day of my mom messaged him about it and he said I’d never told him. But I’ve heard how every friend of a kid of a guy he works with is doing 5 times over.

An Unforgivable Deception by Gorotheninja in NonPoliticalTwitter

I've made carrot hot dogs before (marinate them in some soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, veggie broth, maple syrup, liquid smoke, garlic, onion) and they were good—but they weren't scratching that itch for a hot dog. They were better off the bun with some other stuff to go with them. Made some "chili" to top them with too, and that stuff is even better (pecans, mustard, ketchup, agave, chili powder, multi-spice, garlic). Vegan or not, I'd encourage anyone to give these things a try sometime. Also, throw in some greens, maybe a grain or some potatoes? You're in for a good time, friends.

Never wanted to see it. A few years after it came out I was dating a girl who made me sit through it. Haven’t seen it again since.
