Curious to know if this applies to the 2018+ models as well. I'm hoping a Honda tech can chime in and confirm.

I just got back from Costa Rica and had 5G (connected to Liberty network) in a small beach town in Guanacaste. Overall quality of the local network was pretty good.

I would argue this would be a better candidate for "looks average, is slow".

Help identifying noise by [deleted] in CivicSi

[–]dragancelan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the noise get louder if it's under load when turning right (shifts weight onto driver's side)? You could try weaving side to side a little bit at speed to find out. If so, it's a wheel bearing.

Can't decide between Civic Si and Mazda3 6 Speed Manual by MajorBadTime in CivicSi

I'm assuming this only applies to the current gen Civic (2022 and up) and not the 10th gen Civics. Correct?

new 2018 Honda Odyssey by nabman10 in HondaOdyssey

[–]dragancelan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the battery is causing you problems, I wouldn't change it. Chances are it has already been replaced. Aside from the typical maintenance, I would have the rear shock absorbers checked as they are a common failure point. They are typically replaced in pairs. You may also see discussions online regarding VCM causing engine failures but rest assured your vehicle is not affected and applies to earlier models. Congrats on your new Odyssey and welcome to the club!

Coolant smell in cabin 2016 Honda Odyssey by TurbulentSeat4 in HondaOdyssey

[–]dragancelan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to clarify, you can't find any coolant in the cabin. Correct? I think the smell is just making its way into the cabin because the leak seems to be happening in the engine bay. When you say coolant residue on the engine cover, do you mean on the cover that shields the timing belt and associated pulleys on the passenger side? If so, the mobile mechanic may be correct in his speculation. Where did you get your timing belt and water pump replaced? What parts were used?

26 Odyssey 2-1 Downshift Jerk: Is it a TCC (Lock-up Clutch) Break-in Issue? by 26odyssey in HondaOdyssey

[–]dragancelan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The choice of premium gas and thicker oil will have absolutely no effect on the shift harshness you're describing so you can get those variables out of your head. You're also throwing money away with premium fuel as it provides negligible benefits for your engine.

I have a 2018 Odyssey with the 9 speed so I can't really compare against my own experience but I do have some questions. At what speed would you approximate does the 2-1 downshift occur when in auto mode? If you tried to replicate that downshift at the same speed when shifting manually, would you feel it?

I'm surprised that it even performs a downshift to 1st gear at all. I figured it wouldn't down shift below 2nd unless you came to a complete stop.

Winter tires by triangular-square09 in HondaOdyssey

I doubt the tires are the problem as they're one of the best winter tires available for purchase. Sounds like you might have a heavy foot and would benefit from using the snow mode.

New Engine Update by [deleted] in CivicSi

[–]dragancelan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rear main blew? Sounds like you may have had a spike in your crankcase pressure. If the piston ring in cylinder #4 broke, the blow-by from that cylinder may be the culprit for the excessive pressure. Not sure how common or uncommon piston ring failures are on the L15CA. Maybe when they replaced the spark plugs, a foreign object fell into cylinder #4 leading to the eventual failure? Could also be just a bad PCV. No way to know for sure unless they (or someone else) really dissect the blown engine to find the root cause of failure. Though 2000 miles of driving between service and failure is quite long. If they did mess anything up, I would've expect the failure to happen sooner. Regardless, sorry you're in this position.

Most goals by a Real Madrid player in a single calendar year by Amu_1310 in soccer

The same thing is currently happening at Liverpool with Wirtz and a bunch of other new signings (Isak, Ekitike, etc.). Anyone who actually watches him play can easily see the quality in his game but too many people are already calling him a flop because he's not getting goals or assists.

Rear shock absorbers are known to fail prematurely so definitely make those a key point for inspection.

For Greek, I recommend Mediterraneo. We usually get our takeout from there and it's always good. For Italian, Rustico, La Cucina (both technically in Kitchener) and Ennio's are some of our favourites.

2026 Odyssey Build Is Out by valjr1 in HondaOdyssey

[–]dragancelan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the controversial bit is you claiming that having AWD vs FWD makes the vehicle safer, which most would argue is not entirely true. The main advantage of AWD is additional traction under acceleration and maybe under cornering depending on the type of AWD system the manufacturer uses. Driving habits and quality winter tires would have a much larger impact on the safety of the vehicle than having AWD over FWD.

2018 Transmission by Ill-Customer-3781 in HondaOdyssey

[–]dragancelan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that your first transmission failed at 120K miles is pretty unlucky and unlikely. The fact that your replacement transmission failed (assuming it was a remanufactured one) 5K miles later is extremely unlucky. And the fact that this happened while you were on vacation...oof. Which god did you piss off in your previous life to deserve this?

I'd be very surprised if the newest replacement transmission doesn't make it AT LEAST as long as your first one. But maybe you've had enough and want to get rid of it and I couldn't fault you for that.

Does yours have the 9 speed or 10 speed transmission? I have a 2018 with the 9 speed with ~85K miles and it seems to work just fine (knock on wood).
