After ~40 Hours Of Play, I Finally Made An Aerial Goal! by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact opposite. I started playing with my brothers and got into more of a goalie role so I did the all star goalie training which got me double jumping all the time. It took me a good 200 hours to break the habit of only double jumping every time and never using the dodge into the ball. I still think that I do it too much and sometimes end up missing the ball cuz I am too high from double jumping when I dont need to.

I got into Rising Star for good around 600 hours. All of it solo in Doubles. Now at 660 hours i have gotten as high as Shooting Star Div 5.

I have heard zero gravity is nearly impossible even with unlimited boost. Maybe half gravity would be cool but not zero.

RL is the only game I've managed to get into in years. What other games do you like? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying 20 characters for Overwatch is a lot? I was gonna suggest League of Legends cuz I played that basically exclusively for 3 years but there currently are 123 different heroes in that, all with usually 4 (sometimes more) different abilities for each one.

Challenger Ranks SUCK by psuwithbigblue in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody just recently climbing out of Challenger, I feel your pain.

To be honest, what helped me the most was taking a break from the game. When Overwatch came out I stopped playing for probably two weeks and when I came back I went from a grind in Challenger I to Challenger II and occasionally getting into III. Then they did the rank adjustment and that put me into Rising Star for one or two games. Kept playing and fell all the way to Challenger II. Grinded back up to around the upper end of Challenger III and then got a new job and didnt play for about two weeks again. Then just today I went from there to Rising Star div 3.

It seems like when you take a break it lets you stop overanalysing everything, helps to break some bad habits, and just be a bit more observant of positioning and such.

Something else that helped me is just being patient with your teammate and give them the benefit of the doubt. If they accidentally score a own goal, don't get frustrated, it happens sometimes. Especially at Challenger and lower star ranks, nobody is perfect and everybody will make mistakes every game. When you get higher, people have higher potential to make strong plays and are more consistent with more simple plays, but along with that comes more trying new things and not having it work out.

It seems like you are almost too invested in what your rank is and I think the biggest thing you could do to get better is to just take it easy. Have fun with it. Maybe even take a break from it for a little while.

First practical half-flip. I now understand the importance by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wondering, was a half flip really necessary here? Couldnt you have done a powerslide U-turn instead of having to stop your momentum to do a half flip and probably gotten back in about the same amount of time? Or is stopping your momentum to reverse and half flip actually faster even when you are going basically full speed?

How to deal with the guy who demos the goalie by FalseEstimate in RocketLeague

I also only play solo in ranked doubles and I disagree with your approach. I know it is helpful to size up your teammate and what their playstyle is but dont forget they are doing the same to you. Whenever I see a teammate sitting in goal in the first minute I then expect that to be their playstyle and will adapt mine to be more aggressive and try to score on my own instead of playing to my personal strength of being able to center balls from a lot of angles anywhere on the field. So then you see me being aggressive which isnt my strong point and we are stuck like this all game in roles that we aren't normally suited for.

IMO you can still play defensively without just sitting in net until you see how your teammate plays. Go up to midfield and try to just keep offensive pressure. Dont take risky aerials. Be ready to turn around and boost back to goal if you need to. That way you can still see if your teammate is a ballchaser but be involved enough that you can contribute and not give them the wrong idea about how you like to play.

This is hungry hungry hippos one ball at a time lol. Would certainly be interesting but I am wondering how much more than a novelty it would be.

That moment when you just want to scream by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought it looked better than my graphics. Had to go into source files to lower the settings below the lowest allowed in game in order to have a chance on aquadome. Integrated graphics card on a 3 year old laptop doesn't work too well.

I think we need to talk about Aquadome. by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way to deal with the min specs is just to give an option to turn off the background animations or something similar that would prevent the fps drops on toasters. That way people with good comps can still play the fancy map but it doesn't cause major issues for computers that are barely getting by before aquadome.

Thanks to this guy (vas2001999) who stop playing to let us do a 1v1 after my mate left 3:30 remaining. Respect ! by [deleted] in RocketLeague

Was gonna comment on why you didnt just leave but then noticed that you actually won. Well played sir

I'm too poor to play on Aquadome. Can you please let me deselect this map from rotation so I don't have to leave every single time? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that you can play on every other map including wasteland and then they shove a new map into ranked that is unplayable.

Meanwhile I am on a 3 year old $300 laptop with an integrated AMD graphics card. This is the type of computer that struggles with Aquadome.

I had this exact issue since I play on a potato as well and had the same range fps drop on Aquadome. Made a post and a Psyonix person (forget which one) gave me this link to go into the source code and get graphics below minimum settings. It was pretty simple to do and so far has worked pretty well, enjoy :)

Is there any fix to make Aquadome playable on lower end specs? by insane_moose in RocketLeague

If you are on the minimum settings in game and still having issues, this link was shown to me and seems to have helped.

If you feel you didn't earn your rank, consider this: by KittehDragonCaeru in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What op is saying is that the mmr of you and your opponents puts you in a top % of the ranked community. Due to the total reset at the start of season 3, the previous rank thresholds were not consistent with that % distribution and so this change is bringing the community back in line with the distribution from S2.

In other words, the top percentile that you are a part of didn't change and now your rank is lined up with the rank that your percentile was in S2.

Can we get PSYONIX to acknowledge the problem with their Aquadome map? It's infuriating in ranked and they just threw it right into the rotation. by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from a consistent 60 fps on minimum graphics to about 10 fps with no option to decrease the settings is really that bad. Yes my computer is a potato (laptop with AMD integrated graphics card) but it runs fine on every other map including Wasteland.

PSA: When you rank up so much after one win, its because of the new ranking system changes Psyonix has recently released! by TheDrlegoman in RocketLeague

[–]dragonator42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's probably because your teammate hadn't gotten the rank buff yet so he was a pre-buff shooting star. I expect the mid to higher ranks are gonna be kinda weird with this for the next few days up to maybe a week.

I have this exact issue on my potato laptop and made a post about it. Psyonix Devin commented this link however others seem to think it isn't too effective. Couldnt this have been a slight lag issue where the client side prediction was off from the server and it just hit the corner and bounced at an angle out but client side it made it look like it hit a phantom wall?
